  • The free electron laser (FEL) is driven by electron beams with energies ranging from hundreds of kilovolt to hundreds of megavolt. Therefore the efficiency of FEL strongly depends on the beam quality. In this paper we examined the relation between applied voltage and magnetic field at the magnetically insulated cylindrical cold cathode for the high quality electron beam by the numerical analysis. As a result, we knew that the beam widening strongly depended on applied magnetic field and voltage.

Servo control of an under actuated system using antagonistic shape memory alloy

  • This paper presents the design, modelling and, simulation and experimental results of a shape memory alloy (SMA) actuator based critical motion control application. Dynamic performance of SMA and its ability in replacing servo motor is studied for which the famous open loop unstable balancing ball and beam system direct driven by antagonistic SMA is designed and developed. Simulation uses the mathematical model of ball and beam structure derived from the first principles and model estimated for the SMA actuator by system identification. A PID based cascade control system consisting of two loops is designed and control of ball trajectory for various target positions with settling time as control parameter is verified experimentally. The results demonstrate the performance of SMA for a complicated i.e., under actuated, highly nonlinear unstable system, and thereby it's dynamic behaviour. Control strategies bring out the effectiveness of the actuator and its possible application to much more complex applications such as in aerospace control and robotics.

  • This paper provides the end-point positioning of a single-link flexible robot arm by inverse dynamics. The system is composed of a flexible arm, the mobile ballscrew stage as an arm base, a DC servomotor as an actuator, and a computer. Actuator voltages required for the model of a flexible arm to follow a given tip trajectory are formulated on the basis of the Bermoullie-Euler beam theory and solved by applying the Laplace transform method, and computed by the numerical inversion method proposed by Weeks. The mobile stage as the arm base is shifted so that the end-point follows the desired trajectories. Then the trajectory of end-point is measured by the laser displacement sensor. Here, two kinds of functions are chosen for the given tip trajectories. One is what is called the bang-bang acceleration profile and the other is the Gaussian velocity profile.

  • The RC beams subjected to bending and shear are an important substructure. After flexural cracking, the internal stress state in the beam could not be explained by the classical beam theory. In this study the internal force state factor is introduced to explain the stress state change in the RC beams. The internal force state factor of uniform load was expanded by superposition method using infernal force state factor of point load. As the load types change, the operator that would be calculated the internal force state factor was proposed.

  • 본 논문에서는 가상적인 물체를 기록하고 재생하는 새로운 홀로그램 기록방법인 scanned-object holography를 제안하였으며 그 가능성을 이론과 실험을 통해 증명하였다. 이 방법에서는 점광원으로부터 방출되는 구면파의 이동결과와 정지된 기준파를 연속적으로 간섭시킴으로서 점광원의 이동 경로로 표현되는 가상적인 물체를 기록할 수 있었다. 이때 점광원을 실험적으로 구현하기 위해 광섬유 출력단과 펄스형 레이저를 사용하였다.

Nonlinear thermal vibration of FGM beams resting on nonlinear viscoelastic foundation

  • Nonlinear free vibration analysis of a functionally graded beam resting on the nonlinear viscoelastic foundation is studied with uniform temperature rising. The non-linear strain-displacement relationship is considered in the finite strain theory. The governing nonlinear dynamic equation is derived based on the finite strain theory with using of Hamilton's principle. The Galerkin's decomposition technique is utilized to discretize the governing nonlinear partial differential equation to nonlinear ordinary differential equation and then is solved by using of multiple time scale method. The influences of temperature rising, material distribution parameter, nonlinear viscoelastic foundation parameters on the nonlinear free response and phase trajectory are investigated. In this paper, it is aimed that a contribution to the literature for nonlinear thermal vibration solutions of a functionally graded beam resting on the nonlinear viscoelastic foundation by using of multiple time scale method.

최적의 Bang-Bang 입력을 이용한 볼-빔 시스템의 강인한 추적 제어 (Robust Tracking Control of a Ball and Beam System using Optimal Bang-Bang Input)

  • 본 논문에서는, 볼-빔 시스템에 입-출력 궤환 선형화 기법을 적용하여 추종 궤적 r(t)를 추종하도록 제어기를 설계하였다. 설계한 제어기로 시뮬레이션 및 실험에 적용한 결과, 실험에서 오차가 크게 발생하였다. 이러한 이유는 외란 및 입력정합조건을 만족하지 못해 발생한 것으로 판단되어 볼-빔 시스템의 기존 모델링에서 적절한 외란을 추가하여, 시뮬레이션을 통해 실험 결과와 비슷한 유효한 모델링임을 입증하였다. 그러나, 여전히 저하된 성능으로 인해 bang-bang 제어기를 추가로 적용하였다. 결과적으로, 시스템의 불확실성에 대해 강인하고 향상된 성능을 시뮬레이션 및 실험결과를 통해 검증하였다.

수영만 인공어초 해역에서 소너에 의한 어군의 유영행동 추적 (Acoustic Tracking of Fish Movements in an Artificial Reef Area Using a Split-beam Echo Sounder, Side-scan and Imaging Sonars at Suyeong Man, Busan, Korea)

  • The movement patterns of fish aggregations swimming freely near artificial reefs on August 24, 2006, at Suyeong Man, Busan, Korea, were acoustically investigated and analyzed. Acoustic surveys were conducted using a 70kHz split-beam echo sounder, 330 kHz side-scan sonar and a 310 kHz imaging sonar. Algorithms for tracking the movement of fish aggregations swimming in response to artificial reefs were developed. The travel direction and the swimming speed for two aggregations of fish were estimated from the trajectory orientations of echo responses recorded by the imaging sonar.The first group was floating just above the reef structure, while remaining in the midwater column, and the second group was swimming through and around artificial reefs near the seabed. The mean swimming speed was estimated to be 0.40 m/s for the midwater fish aggregation and 0.17 m/s for the bottom aggregation close to artificial reefs. These results suggest that the swimming behavior of fish aggregations passing close to artificial reefs near the seabed displayed a slower moving pattern than fish floating just above the reef structure in the midwater column.

Accuracy improvement in motion tracking of tennis balls using nano-sensors technology

  • Tracking the motion of tennis balls is a challenging task in using cameras around the tennis court. The most important instance of the tennis trajectory is the time of impact and touch the court which in some cases could not be detected precisely. In the present study, we aim to present a novel design of tennis balls equipped with nano-sensors to detect the touch of the ball to the court. In the impact instance, tennis ball receives significant acceleration and change in the linear momentum. This large acceleration could deform a small-beam structure with piezoelectric layer to produce voltage. The voltage could further be utilized to produce infrared waves which could be easily detected by infrared detection sensors installed on the same video cameras or separately near the tennis court. Therefore, the exact time of the impact could be achieved with higher accuracy than image analyzing method. A detailed dynamical property of such sensors is discussed using nonlinear beam equations. The results show that within the acceleration range of tennis ball during an impact, the piezoelectric patches of the nano-sensors in the tennis ball could produce enough voltages to propagate infrared waves to be detected by infrared detectors.

유한요소법을 이용한 방향성 시추의 굴진율 연구 (A study on the excavation rate of directional drilling using finite element method)

  • 드릴 스트링의 진동 문제는 수년간 드릴링 성능 저하의 주요 원인 중 하나로 인식되어 왔으며, 굴착 작업 시 발생하는 과도한 진동은 드릴링의 효율성, 파이프 피로, 비트의 수명 단축으로 인하여 고장을 초래할 수 있다. 이러한 진동의 원인은 드릴 스트링이 굴착 작업 중 궤적에 따라 파이프의 굽힘과 wellbore와의 접촉으로 인해 마찰이 발생하고 이러한 진동은 일반적으로 축 방향, 굴곡 및 비틀림 변형을 일으킨다. 본 연구에서는 Khulief와 Al-Naser가 제시한 모델을 바탕으로 드릴 스트링에 6자유도(DOF)의 구성요소를 갖는 모델을 적용하여 curved beam의 수치해석 값과 Analytical값을 비교하여 검증하고 드릴 스트링에 hookload와 WOB 경계조건을 주어 각 element 마다 동적 거동을 분석하였다. 실제 궤적을 적용하여 드릴 파이프의 굽힘이나 중력으로 인하여 Wellbore와 접촉되는 부분에 마찰을 적용하였고, 또한 마찰 작용 시 일정한 축 방향 속도를 유지하기 위한 PI제어 값을 설계하여 drillstring 전체의 각속도 변화와 실제 드릴 굴착 작업 중 발생하는 stick slip현상을 관찰하였다.
