Analog Controller for Battery to Stabilize DC-bus Voltage of DC-AC Microgrid

  • Stabilization of the DC bus voltage is an important task in DC-AC microgrid system with renewable energy source such as solar system. A battery energy storage system (BESS) has become a general solution to stabilize the DC-bus voltage in DC-AC microgrid. This paper develops the analog BESS controller which requires neither computation nor dc-bus voltage measurement, so that the system can be implemented simply and easily. Even though others methods can stabilize and control the DC-bus voltage, it has complicated structure in control and low adaptive capability. The proposed topology is simple but is able to compensate the solar source variation and stabilize the DC-bus voltage under any loads and distributed generation (DG) conditions. In addition, the design of analog controller is presented to obtain a robust system. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy, simulation is carried out by using PSIM software.

해수 전지용 탄소계 촉매와 Hydrogel 촉매의 제조 및 이들의 전기화학적 특성 비교 (Preparation and Electrochemical Performances Comparison of Carbon and Hydrogel Electrocatalysts for Seawater Battery)

  • 새로운 전자 기기들이 등장함에 따라 시판되고 있는 리튬 이온 배터리 (lithium ion battery, LIB)는 다양한 문제에 직면해 있으며, 이와 관련하여 많은 해결 노력들이 시도되어 왔다. 차세대 이차 전지의 개발이라는 관점에서 LIB의 문제들을 해결하기 위해, 우리는 mesoporous carbon based on waste biomass (MCWB) 와 Polypyrrole (PPY) hydrogel과 같은 두 가지 종류의 촉매를 성공적으로 개발하였다. MCWB와 PPY hydrogel 촉매들은 전형적인 H3 타입 BET isotherm을 나타내었으며, 이는 micropore와 mseopore가 존재한다는 증거이다. 특히 PPY hydrogel을 기반으로 하는 해수 전지(seawater battery, SWB)의 경우, galvanostatic charge-discharge 시험에서 voltage efficiency성능은 MCWB를 적용한 battery보다 높았지만 Pt/C를 적용한 battery보다는 낮았다. 더욱 흥미롭게도, PPY hydrogel 기반의 SWB는 20 사이클(480hrs) 동안 우수한 가역적인 충/방전 특성을 나타내었으며, voltage efficiency성능은 70.32%에서 77.35% 범위의 우수한 특성을 나타내었다. 상기 연구 결과는 차세대 이차 전지를 위한 비귀금속 촉매 개발에 기여하는 결과라고 사료된다.

  • This paper proposes a new method for the current ripple reduction of a three-phase interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter. Usually, the three-phase interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter is used for battery charging and discharging to reduce battery current ripple. In V2G application, a PWM AC-DC converter is used to connect the AC power grid and three-phase interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter for battery charging and discharging. The magnitude of DC link voltage affects the battery current ripple magnitude. Therefore, the magnitude of the battery ripple current is analyzed with variations of battery and DC link voltages. The ripple current magnitude is found to be minimized by controlling the DC link voltage. Simulation and experimental results show the usefulness of the proposed method.

  • PDA, 스마트폰, USP 및 전기자동차와 같은 전기적 장치의 전력공급을 위하여 배터리가 직렬로 연결된 다중 셀을 만들어 일반적으로 사용한다. 이 경우 개별 셀 전압의 편차가 발생되면 배터리의 수명과 용량은 낮아지게 된다. 셀에서 전압의 안정화상태를 유지하기 위한 셀 전압을 안정화시키는 효율적인 방범은 없어서는 안 될 중요한 사항이다. 본 논문에서는 휴대형 가전기기에 적용하기 위해 마이크로컨트롤러를 사용한 다중 셀용 밸런싱 회로의 설계에 대하여 제안한다. 밸런싱 시스템은 충전되는 주기 동안 밸런싱 동작을 이행하며 마이크로컨트롤러로서 제어된다. 제안된 방법은 충전기와 레코드를 사용하여 실험을 통해 증명하였다. 실험결과에서 개별 배터리의 용량, 수령, 성능이 향상됨을 보여준다.

  • In this paper a direct cell-to-cell charge balancing circuit which can transfer the charge from any cell to any cell in the battery string is introduced. In the proposed topology the energy in the high voltage cell is transferred to the low voltage cell through the simple operation of a dc-dc converter to get fast equalization. Furthermore, the charge equalization can be performed regardless of the battery module operation whether it is being charged, discharged or relaxed. The monitoring circuit composed of a DSP and a battery monitoring IC is designed to monitor the cell voltage and protect the battery. In order to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed topology, a prototype circuit was designed and applied to 12 Lithium-Ion battery module. It has been verified with the experiments that the charge equalization time of the proposed method was shortest compared with those of other methods.

  • In this paper a cell-to-cell fast charge balancing circuit for the Lithium-Ion battery module is proposed. In the proposed topology the energy in a high voltage cell is transferred directly to a low voltage cell through the operation of the dc-dc converter. Furthermore, the charge balancing can be performed regardless of the battery operation whether it is being charged, discharged or relaxed. The monitoring circuit composed of a DSP and a battery monitoring IC is designed to monitor the cell voltage and detect the inferior cell thereby protecting the battery module from failure. In order to demonstrate the performance of the proposed topology, a prototype circuit was designed and applied to 12 Lithium-Ion battery module. It has been verified with the experiments that the charge equalization time of the proposed method was shorter compared with those of other methods.

  • A voltage source PWM converter with battery charging and AC/DC power conversion ability is proposed in this paper. The proposed voltage source PWM converter is independently controlled by active and reactive components and implemented by DSP controller. In UPS application the mathematical model of the voltage source PWM converter has been derived. Finally, the performance of the voltage source converter is shown and discussed through experimental results.

  • Electric vehicles should be connected to power system for charge and discharge of battery. Besides vehicle's battery is charged for a power source, it is also reversibly possible to provide power source from battery to power system. Researches on battery usage for regulation resources have been progressed and could cause cost increase excessively because they distribute regulation capacity equally without considering the battery wear cost of SOC, temperature, voltage and so on. This causes increase of grid maintenance cost and aggravate economical efficiency. In this paper it is studied that the cost could be minimized according to the battery condition and characteristic. The equation is developed in this paper to calculate the possible number of charge and discharge cycle, according to SOC level and weighting factors representing the relation between battery life and temperature as well as voltage. Thereafter, the correlation is inferred between the battery condition and wear cost reflecting the battery price, and the expense of compensation is decided according to the condition on battery wear-out of vehicle. In addition, using realtime error between load and load expectation, it is calculated how much regulation capacity should be provided.

  • In the design of the battery charger it is important to limit the ripple current and voltage according to the manufacturer's recommendation for the reliable service and the extended life of the battery. However, it is often overlooked that these ripple components can cause internal heating of the battery, thereby reducing its service life. Thus the care must be taken in the design of the switching converter for the charge application through the accurate estimation of the output ripple values. In this research analysis on the output ripple of the dc-dc converter is detailed to provide a guideline for the design of the battery charger.

  • Zinc Air battery obtain their energy density advantage over the other batteries by utilizing ambient oxygen as the cathode materials, and reusing cathode as recycled form. And specific capacity of zinc powder is as high as 820mAh/g. When Zinc Air battery discharged by low rate current discharge voltage profile has very flat pattern until end of voltage. But, when Zinc Air battery discharged by high rate current discharge voltage and capacity become lower. Therefore, we focused on effects of catalyst size in cathode. So we examined performance of zinc air batteries, average discharge voltage, capacity, energy, resistance. And we also obtained resistance by the GSM pulse discharge. So we have got optimum size of catalyst for Zinc Air battery.
