This paper explains a DMFC-Lithium Battery hybrid system applied to a forklift. A conventional Lead Acid battery forklift has several problems: long charging times, short operation times, and frequent battery replacements. As a result, hydrogen-powered forklifts are replacing Lead acid battery-powered forklifts due to their shorter refueling time and longer operation times. However, in doing so, we are confronted with the problem of a high hydrogen refueling infrastructure. A Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC), on the other hand, is an eco-friendly generator that directly converts the chemical energy of methanol into electricity. In general, DMFC is regarded as a small power generator under kW power. In this paper, a DMFC-Battery hybrid system is applied to a 1.5 ton forklift by increasing the power output of the DMFC stack and utilizing the high charge-discharge characteristics of a lithium battery.
When lithium-ion batteries operate out of the proper temperature range, their performance can be significantly degraded and safety issues such as thermal runaway can occur. Therefore, battery thermal management systems are widely researched to maintain the temperature of Li-ion battery cells within the proper temperature range during the charging and discharging process. This study investigates the cooling performance and isothermal maintenance of cooling materials by measuring the surface temperature of a battery cell with or without cooling materials, such as silicone oil, thermal adhesive, and phase change materials during discharge process of battery by the experimental and numerical analysis. As a result of the experiment, the battery pack filled with phase change material showed a temperature reduction of 47.4 ℃ compared to the case of natural convection. It proves the advanced utility of the cooling unit using phase change material that is suitable for use in battery thermal management systems.

Based on the redox couples of a nitroxide radical, organic radical polymers were utilized as the electrode-active or charge-storage component for a secondary battery. We call a battery composed of the radical polymer electrode as "organic radical battery". Organic radical battery has several advantages: high capacity, high power-rate performance, long cycle ability, and environmentally-benign features. Synthesis and electrochemical studies of nitroxide polymers are described. Battery fabrication and cell performance are also reported.

Li-air cell is an exotic type of energy storage and conversion device considered to be half battery and half fuel cell. Its successful commercialization highly depends on the timely development of key components. Among these key components, the catalyst (i.e., the core portion of the air electrode) is of critical importance and of the upmost priority. Indeed, it is expected that these catalysts will have a direct and dramatic impact on the Li-air cell's performance by reducing overpotentials, as well as by enhancing the overall capacity and cycle life of Li-air cells. Unfortunately, the technological advancement related to catalysts is sluggish at present. Based on the insights gained from this review, this sluggishness is due to challenges in both the commercialization of the catalyst, and the fundamental studies pertaining to its development. Challenges in the commercialization of the catalyst can be summarized as 1) the identification of superior materials for Li-air cell catalysts, 2) the development of fundamental, material-based assessments for potential catalyst materials, 3) the achievement of a reduction in both cost and time concerning the design of the Li-air cell catalysts. As for the challenges concerning the fundamental studies of Li-air cell catalysts, they are 1) the development of experimental techniques for determining both the nano and micro structure of catalysts, 2) the attainment of both repeatable and verifiable experimental characteristics of catalyst degradation, 3) the development of the predictive capability pertaining to the performance of the catalyst using fundamental material properties. Therefore, under the current circumstances, it is going to be an extremely daunting task to develop appropriate catalysts for the commercialization of Li-air batteries; at least within the foreseeable future. Regardless, nano materials are expected to play a crucial role in this field.
The purpose of this study is to research and develop $TiS_2$ composite cathode for lithium polymer battery(LPB). $TiS_2$ electrode represent a class of insertion positive electrode used in Li secondary batteries. In this study, we investigated preparation of $TiS_2$ composite cathode and AC impedance response of $TiS_2$ composite/SPE/Li cells as a function of state of charge(SOC) and cycling. The resistance of B type cell using $TiS_2PEO_8LiClO_4PC_5EC_5$ composite cathode was lower than that of A type cell using $TiS_2PEO$ composite cathode. The cell resistance of B type cell is high for the first few percent discharge, decreases for midium discharge and then increases again toward the end of discharge. We believe the magnitude of the cell resistance is dominated by passivation layer impedance and small cathode resistance. AC impedance results indicate that the cell internal resistance increase with cycling, and this is attributed to change of passivation layer impedance with cycling. The passivation layer resistance($R_f$) of B type cell decreases for the 2nd cycling and then increases again with cycling. Redox coulombic efficiency of B type cell was about 141% at 1st cycle and 100% at 12th cycle. Also, $TiS_2$ specific capacity was 115 mAh/g at 12 cycle.
This paper suggests a autonomous linear Li-ion battery charger which can safely distribute power between an external power source(AC adapter, auto adapter, or USB source), battery, and the system load. Depending on an external power source's capability, the charger selects proper charging-mode automatically. The charger IC designed and fabricated on Dongbu HITEC's $0.35{\mu}m$ BCD process with layers of one poly and three metals.
