To produce PHA(polyhydroxyalkanoic acid) from microbr, dozens of microorganism have been screened from sewage sludge. Selected a strain HJ out of 50 strains of PHA producing bacteria has a capability of accumulating large amounts of PHB/HV copolymer when grown in batch culture with a single carbon source (glucose) that was not generally considered as precursor of hydroxyvalerate monomer unit. The strain HJ was identified as the genus Pseudomonas with respect to morphological, cultural, and biochemical characteristics. The optimal temperature and pH for cell growth were $37^{\circ}C$ and 7.0. The optimal medium compositions for cell growth were glucose 1% as a carbon source, (NH4) 2SO4 0.2% as a nitrogen source, K2HPO4 0.3%, and KH2PO4 0.45%. TO investigate she optimal condition for PHA production two-step cultivation method was employed. PHA production was inducted by deficiency of NH4+, SO4-2, Mg+2. Besides carbon source, deficiency of all nutrients stimulated PHA productivity but deficiency of NH4+ stimulated the most HV monomer content. The highest PHA production was C/N molar ratio 95.2. Pseudomonas sp. HJ was also able to pyoduc PHB/HV copolymer when cultivated on alkane, alkanoate, alcohol as carbon sources. The contents of PHA and she proportions of hydroxyvalerate monomer units varied depending on the carbon sources. Especially Pseudomonas sp. HJ was able to incorporate hydroxyvalerate into PHB/HV to level as high as from 49 to 74 mol% when grown in a medium containing hexadecane and propionate. The purified PHA was identified PHB/HV copolymer by HNMR analysis.
The effects of metathesis for concentrating the tocopherols from soybean and rice-bran scum oils were studied by using the batch reactor under helium atmosphere. The contents of tocopherols in the scum oils decreased consticuously when heated under air atmosphere or when kept in hexane solution above 5 days even at room temperature. The sterols in the scum oils were removed by the mixed solvent method. Metathesis of the sterol-removed scum oils in hexane was performed over Re2O7/Al2O3 and WO3/Al2O3 catalysts, and the concentrate was obtained by distillation in vacuum at $190^{\circ}C$. The effect of metathesis was evaluated as relative ratio of ${\alpha}$-tocopherol in the concentrate to that in scum oil. The maximum ratio for both scum oils was obtained on 12.8%(w/w)$Re_2O_7/Al2O_3$ catalyst which formed effectively the active sites for metathesis by the reaction between the added tetramethyltin and $Re_2O_7$ on the surface of the catalyst. The optimum amount of the catalyst was 0.5g pre l0g scum oil, and the optimum reaction temperature was $25^{\circ}C$ for both scum oils. The metathesis was more effective in rice-bran scum oil than in soybean scum oil. These facts indicated that the tocopherols in the scum oils can be highly concentrated by applying metathesis.
The production of methyl N-phenyl carbamate by an oxidative carbonylation method of aniline and methanol is of great interest as an environmentally friendly process that can replace the monomer production process of a polymer produce using conventional phosgene. In this study, heterogeneous catalysts were prepared by using Y-zeolite, $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$ as support, and oxidative carbonylation continuous operation from aniline and methanol was attempted using the prepared heterogeneous catalyst. Batch reactor was used to determine the support, and various reaction conditions such as reaction temperature, reaction pressure, and effect of promoter were established using palladium catalyst. A reaction kinetics study was conducted under optimum reaction conditions. The basic data for carbamate process development were obtained by performing continuous operation for a long time under established reaction condition.
Adsorption equilibrium, kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of a brilliant green from aqueous solutions at various initial dye concentration (10~30 mg/L), contact time (1~24 h) and temperature (298~318 K) on zeolite were studied in a batch mode operation. The equilibrium adsorption values were analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich model. The results indicate that Langmuir and Freundlich model provides the best correlation of the experimental data. Base on the estimated values of Langmuir dimensionless separation factor ($R_L=0.041{\sim}0.057$) and Freundlich constant (1/n=0.30~0.47), this process could be employed as effective treatment method. calculated values of adsorption energy by Dubinin-Radushkevich model were 1.564~1.857 kJ/mol corresponding to physical adsorption. The adsorption kinetics of brilliant green were best described by the pseudo second-order rate model and followed by intraparticle diffusion model. Thermodynamic parameters such as activation energy, free energy, enthalpy and entropy were calculated to estimate nature of adsorption. negative Gibbs free energy (-10.3~-11.4 kJ/mol), positive enthalpy change (49.48 kJ/mol) and Arrehenius activation energy (27.05 kJ/mol) indicates that the adsorption is spontaneous, endothermic and physical adsorption process, respectively.
In this study, the performances of PVA-encapsulation and non-encapsulation in a fed-batch bioreactor system were compared for biohydrogen production. Hydrogen production in the PVA-encapsulation bioreactor was not significantly different in comparison to the non-encapsulation bioreactor. However, the hydrogen gas in the encapsulation bioreactor could be stably produced when it was exposed to environmental difficulties such as pH impact by the accumulation of organic acids as fermentative metabolic products. Bacterial communities by DGGE analysis were differently shifted between the PVA-encapsulation and non-encapsulation bioreactors from the initial sludge. The community of hydrogen producing bacteria was stable during the experimental period in the PVA-encapsulation bioreactor compared to the non-encapsulation method. The absolute quantitation of the DNA copy number by a high-throughput droplet digital PCR system for six genera contributed to hydrogen production showing that the numbers of dominant bacteria existed at similar levels in the two bioreactors regardless of encapsulation. In both of two bioreactors, not only Clostridium and Enterobacter, which are known as anaerobic hydrogen producing bacteria, but also Firmicutes, Ruminococcus and Escherichia existed with $1{\times}10^5-1{\times}10^6$ copy numbers of ml-samples exhibiting rapid growth during the initial operation period.
The sorption behavior of some metal ions on XAD-16-CTA chelating resin was investigated by batch method. The sorption of chelating resin was highly selective for Hf(IV), Zr(IV) and Th(IV) at pH 3.0 ~ 6.0 and the maximum sorption capacity of Zr(IV) ion was 0.81 mmol/g. It was successfully applied to the separation of several rare metal ions from mixed metal solutions by using CDTA, EDTA, NTA and $NH_4F$ as masking agent. The elution order of metal ions obtained from breakthrough capacity and the overall capacity at pH 4.0 was Zr(IV)>Th(IV)>Hf(IV)>U(VI)>Cu(II)>In(III)>Pb(II). Desorption characteristics for metal ions was investigated with desorption agents such as HCl, $HNO_3$, $HClO_4$. 2 M HCl showed high desorption efficiency. Th(IV) ion can be successfully separated from mixed metal ions by using XAD-16-CTA cheating resin.
Adsorption of metanil yellow onto granular activated carbon were studied in a batch system. Various operation parameters such as adsorbent dosage, pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature were optimized. Experimental equilibrium adsorption data were analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The equilibrium process was described well by Freundlich isotherm model. From determined separation factor (1/n), adsorption of metanil yellow by granular activated carbon could be employed as effective treatment method. By analysis of kinetic experimental data, the adsorption process were found to confirm to the pseudo second order model with good correlation and the adsorption rate constant ($k^2$) decreased with increasing initial concentration. Thermodynamic parameters like activation energy, change of free energy, enthalpy, and entropy were also calculated to predict the nature adsorption in the temperature range of 298~318 K. The activation energy was determined as 23.90 kJ/mol. It was found that the adsortpion of metanil yellow on the granular activated carbon was physical process. The negative Gibbs free energy change (${\Delta}G=-2.16{\sim}-6.55kJ/mol$) and the positive enthalpy change (${\Delta}H=+23.29kJ/mol$) indicated the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption process, respectively.

Titania nanoparticles were prepared by controlled hydrolysis of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) in water-in-oil (W/O) and microemulsion stabilized with a nonionic surfactant, N P-10 (Polyoxyethylene Nonylphenol Ether: $C_9H_{19}C_6H_4(OCH_2CH_2)_{10}OH$)). The nanosized particles prepared in W/O microemulsion were characterized by FT-IR, TEM, XRD, TGA, and DTA. In addition, the photocatalytic degradation of p-nitrophenol has been studied by using a batch reactor in the presence of UV light in order to compare the photocatalytic activity of prepared nanosized titania. The nanaosized titania particles calcined at $300{\sim}600^{\circ}C$ showed an anatase structure, but it transformed to a rutile phase above $700^{\circ}C$ of calacination temperature. With an increase of $W_o$ ratio, the crystallite size increased but photocalytic activity decreased. The titania synthesized at $W_o=5$, R = 2, and calcined at $400{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ showed the highest activity on the photocatalytic degradation of p-nitrophenol.
Twenty-nine pepper products commercially available in the market were collected and investigate for contamination levels. Pepper products purchased from traditional markets had a degree of contamination of $10^6-10^7CFU/g$ aerobic bacteria, $10^4-10^5CFU/g$ Bacillus sp., and less than $10^2CFU/g$ yeast and molds. Organic pepper showed a degree of contamination of $10^4$ aerobic bacteria, $10^2-10^3$ Bacillus sp., and less than $10^1$ yeast and molds. Intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment of 10 min (1,000 V, 5 pps and 4 cm sample-to-lamp distance) showed a bacterial death rate of 1.45-1.55 log for whole peppers, and of 0.8-0.85 log for black and white pepper powder. The sterilization rate using IPL was higher than that using other non-thermal sterilization methods, such as ozone treatment or low-pressure discharge plasma sterilization, indicating that the IPL sterilization method may find potential application in the industry. However, further studies may need to be conducted to enhance the effect of sterilization.

Many research of hand gesture recognition based on vision system have been conducted which enable user operate various electronic devices more easily. 3D position calculation and meaningful gesture classification from similar gestures should be executed to recognize hand gesture accurately. A simple and cost effective method of 3D position calculation and gesture spotting (a task to recognize meaningful gesture from other similar meaningless gestures) is described in this paper. 3D position is achieved by calculation of two cameras relative position through pan/tilt module and a marker regardless with the placed position. Fuzzy garbage model is proposed to provide a variable reference value to decide whether the user gesture is the command gesture or not. The reference is achieved from fuzzy command gesture model and fuzzy garbage model which returns the score that shows the degree of belonging to command gesture and garbage gesture respectively. Two-stage user adaptation is proposed that off-line (batch) adaptation for inter-personal difference and on-line (incremental) adaptation for intra-difference to enhance the performance. Experiment is conducted for 5 different users. The recognition rate of command (discriminate command gesture) is more than 95% when only one command like meaningless gesture exists and more than 85% when the command is mixed with many other similar gestures.
