  • The virtual world is simulated in terms of agents and the environment as the real world. Agents are able to perceive and recognize objects as well as components of the environmental elements in the virtual world. As a result, they are able to autonomously act in terms of their decision. They generate diverse situation that make the user to feel familiarity as they would be have like human beings. Such situations are constructed in terms of the concepts of the entities, relations and activities, and agents accordingly recognize the situations in terms of these concepts. In this paper, we propose the method to recognize and represent the shapes which are the most important feature among objects. Various shapes are represented in terms of primitive shapes and their spatial relations in depth. We use distance, direction, and orientation in order to represent basic spatial relation. In order to simplify basic signal processing, objects dynamically send messages of self information to agents, and refer to ontology as the knowledge base of the virtual world. Agents perceive the information from objects by comparing with schematic knowledge and instance knowledge in ontology.

  • According to the purpose of applications, the application program will utilize the most suitable data model and 3D modeling data would be generated based on the selected data model. In these reasons, there are various data sets to represent the same geographical features. The duplicated data sets bring serious problems in system interoperability and data compatibility issues, as well in finance issues of geo-spatial information industries. In order to overcome the problems, this study proposes a spatial data fusion method using topological relationships among spatial objects in the feature classes, called Topological Relation Model (TRM). The TRM is a spatial data fusion method implemented in application-level, which means that the geometric data generated by two different data models are used directly without any data exchange or conversion processes in an application system to provide indoor LBSs. The topological relationships are defined and described by the basic concepts of IndoorGML. After describing the concepts of TRM, experimental implementations of the proposed data fusion method in 3D GIS are presented. In the final section, the limitations of this study and further research are summarized.

  • This study focuses on Gilbert Simondon's individuation theory, a core concept of his technological philosophy, and spatial modality in interactive space as the schema of interactive operation. The study examines spatial modality as the technology of an interaction-enabler that has archi-semiotic characteristics in the designed space by aspects of examples. They are based on ideas and properties of a combined environment and the concept of information, which form Simondon's individuation theory. In the process of technological individuation, spatial modality has the characteristics of archi-semiotics from a combined environment and information. The first of the three properties is representation through semiosis and the information surface. Second is the context by relation works and perception, and third are the symbolic aspects, which could create Placeness by meaning. Combining meaningful constructive and deconstructive spaces could result in space for interactive communication. Spatial modality makes it possible to interact with users and spaces. In fact, it could have a particular semiotic mode of address and become a semiotic and contextual base. As a basic investigation of spatial modality, this study will contribute to interactive space design research.

  • Korea's Spatial Information Policy has been institutionalized based by "National Spatial Data Infrastructure Act", "Act on Land Survey, Waterway Survey and Cadastral Records", "Spatial Data Industry Promotion Act". In year 2015, These acts were modified with new names and contents. It is critical that the definition of spatial information ought to be generalized. In addition, it is of paramount importance to review factors those contribute to the systematic development on coherent relation between Spatial Information Act and other acts. Examples of improvement area may include: Categorization of Spatial Information Concept, Systematization of Spatial Data Related Legislation, and Enhancement of Organization Specializing in Spatial Information. Furthermore, Legislation & Policy case of Germany, France and the United States were used as a basis for improvement.

  • A space, real or virtual, comprises regions as its parts and physical objects residing in them. A coherent and sophisticated representaion scheme for their spatial relations premises the precision and plausibility in its associated agents' inferencing on the spatial relations and the development of events occurring in such a space. The existing spatial models are not suitable for a comprehensive representation of the general spatial relations in that they have limited expressive powers based on the dichotomy between the large and small scales, or support only a small set of topological relations. The representaion model we propose has the following distinctive chracteristics: firstly, our model provides a comprehensive representation scheme to accommodate large and small scale spaces in an integrated fashion; secondly, our model greatly elaborated the spatial relations among the small-scale objects based on their contact relations and the compositional relations among their respective components objects beyond the basic topological relations like disjoint and touch; thirdly, our model further diversifies the types of supported relations by adding the container property besides the soildness together with considering the gravity direction. The resulting integrated spatial knowledge representation scheme considering the gravity allows the diverse spatial relations in the real world to be simulated in a precise manner in relation to the associated spatial events and provides an expression measure for the agents in such a cyber-world to capture the spatial knowledge to be used for recognizing the situations in the spatial aspects.

  • This is a study on village names in a plain region of Changnyeong-Gun, a mountain region of Bonghwa-Gun and an island region of Namhae-Gun. The three regions differ in geographical features. The data are based on 455 village names in Changnyeong-Gun, 552 village names in Bonghwa-Gun and 275 village names in Namhae-Gun found in the 1 : 50,000 topographic map. The method of this study is to analyze the word structures of village names in the five basic concepts in geography : Man-Land(Natural Environment and Human Activities). Spatial Relation, Distribution, Region and Transition. The main results of this study are as follows: 1. Naming of villages are related to Natural Environment(41%), Human Activities(23%), Region(17%), Spatial Relation(13%), Distribution(5%), and Transition(3%). Of these six factors, Changnyeong-Gun is relatively dominant in village names related to Spatial Relations, Region and Transition ; Bonghwa-Gun Natural Environment and Namhae-Gun Human Activities and Spatial Relations. But the three Guns are absolutely dominant in village names related to Natural Environment and Human Activities. 2. A village name is divided into the specific name part(given name) and the generic name part(classified name). Names related to Human Activities, Spatial Relations, Distribution and Transition are more frequently found in the specific name part. Therefore, they are used as the given name of a village name. Whereas names related to Natural Environment and Region are more frequently found in generic name part, which means that they are used as the classified name of a village. 3. The word structure of a village name usually has two parts a frontal part(given name) and a rear part(classified name). The two parts have a particular pattern in the geographic concept when they are combined. 1) In the village names related to in their frontal part of the word structure, is more frequently combined as their rear part in Bonghwa-Gun, in Namhae-Gun and in Changnyeong-Gun. 2) In the village names related to in their frontal part of the word structure, is more frequently combined as their rear part in Changnyeong-Gun, in Namhae-Gun and in Bonghwa-Gun. Accordingly, Man(Human Activities) - Land (Natural Environment) can be considered the most important concept in the naming of villages, because the concept is most frequently used in the word structures of village names.
