This paper presents the results of investigation into bearing capacity of a geocell reinforced load base. In order to analyze variation of bearing capacity of the geocell reinforced road base comparing to without reinforced geocell road base, a series of full-scale tests were performed and measured using FWD (Falling Weight Deflectometer). The results indicate that bearing capacity of geocell (T=1.5 mm) reinforecd road base increase than the unreinforced road base.

A base expansion micropile was developed to improve the bearing capacity of the micropile, which bears a simple device installed at the pile base. Under an axial load, this base expansion structure radially expands at the pile tip and attaches itself around ground, compressing the boring wall in the construction stage. In this study, conventional and base expansion micropiles were constructed in the weathered rock where micropiles are commonly installed. Further, field load tests were conducted to verify the bearing capacity enhancement effect. From the load test results, it was revealed that the shaft resistance of base expansion micropiles was about 12% higher than that of conventional micropiles. The load transfer analysis results also showed that compared to conventional micropiles, the unit skin friction and unit end bearing of base expansion micropiles were 15.4% and 315.1% higher, respectively, in the bearing zone of the micropile.

The present precast top-base method create many problems of requiring it plant facilities, transportation and installation, due to the heavy weight of and it takes too long time to set it up on site. In order to improve and solve these problems, in-situ Top-Base method is developed. It include processes that install Top-Base mold made of poly-ethylene into ground, then pouring concrete into the mold, and fill the rest gaps with broken stones. Considerable advantages can be obtained by applying in-situ Top-Base method in aspects of the stability, economical and construction efficiency. In this research, model tests for in-situ Top-Base system are carried out in other to the investigate the load delivering mechanism and the effect of bearing capacity.

Embedded piles, which are typically used in Korea, are precast piles inserted into prebored ground with cement paste. Dynamic pile tests tend to underestimate the bearing capacity of embedded piles because of the undeveloped shaft resistance prior to the curing of the cement paste and the insufficient energy transferred after the curing. In this study, a resistance combination method using the base resistance before the cement paste is cured and the shaft resistance after the cement paste is cured is proposed to obtain a combined load-settlement curve from dynamic pile tests. Two pairs of embedded piles with diameters of 600 and 500 mm are installed. Each pair comprises one pile for the dynamic pile test and another pile for the static load test. The shape of the load-settlement curve obtained using the proposed method is similar to that obtained from the static load test. Thus, the resistances evaluated using the proposed method at selected settlements are similar to those obtained from the static load test. This study shows that the resistance combination method may be used effectively in dynamic pile tests to accurately evaluate the bearing capacity of embedded piles.
In this study, evaluation of load capacity and CPT-load capacity parameters were performed using calibration chamber tests for different types of piles including straight-side and tapered piles. Various soil conditions were considered in the investigation, aiming at establishing design procedure for foundation of electronic transmission tower structures. Test results show that no significant difference of total load capacity from straight-side and tapered piles, while individual components of base and shaft load capacities were quite different. Based on the test results, values of CPT-load capacity correlation parameters for different pile types were analyzed for the evaluation of both base and shaft load capacities.

Up to now, common studies of top base have concentrated upon bearing capacity and settlement by in-situ loading test in Japan and Korea. But most of all preceding study for top base must analyze how to deliver overburden loading on bottom of foundation. Therefore, in this study, the stress delivery mechanism of Top-Base Foundation developed in Japan and Floating Top Base developed in Korea is investigated through numerical analysis and laboratory model test. Analyzing the load delivery mechanism of top base, it was found that the division rate of load reduction of top base for overburden load was largest in peripheral skin friction between the top base and the crushed stone. Further, total stress dispersion angle of Top-Base Foundation including internal stress dispersion effect of top base was $41.8^{\circ}$ and total stress dispersion angle of Floating Top Base was $44.5^{\circ}$.
The problems like a deterioration of loading bearing capacity, an exaggeration of settlement and lateral deformation are able to be generated, meanwhile structures are built in soft ground. Top-Base method is belonged to a rigidity mat foundation method which is used to surface treatment of soft ground. This method makes an effect to increase the bearing capacity of foundation using friction force, and prevent the differential settlement. Further more, the In-Situ Top-Base method has advantages in the phase of economic effect by reduction of the construction cost and offers an expediency on construction comparing with precast products. This paper presents the way of the estimation of bearing capacity for In-Situ Top-Base method through field plate load test in soft ground. It utilizes the results to a future design by analyzing the properties in the existing study and designs through these analysis and calculating the top-base method's reasonable range.
The existing design criteria f3r the estimation of ultimate bearing capacity of drilled shaft socketed into rock masses are mainly obtained from the ultimate pile load capacities, which are determined by inconsistent failure criteria. Therefore, these design criteria generally produce difffrent predictions even for drilled shaft in the same condition. In this paper, the accuracies of the existing design criteria are investigated to develop an optimized design process for drilled shaft socketed into rock masses. Reasonable and consistent ultimate capacities of drilled shafts socked into rock masses, necessary far the check of accuracies of predictions, are determined by applying a specific failure criterion to a total of 11 pile load test results. A comparison between the predicted and the measured load capacities shows that ultimate base load capacities calculated from Zhang and Einstein's equation and NAVFAC are close to the measured values. Rosenberg and Journeaux's equation produces satisfactory prediction f3r ultimate side load capacity.

A pile is compressed with settlements when loading and bearing capacity is altered along relative displacement of pile/soil on settlement and compression. Settlements of pile displaying limit skin friction is different from displaying tip resistance. Therefore, it is an error in traditional method that bearing capacity of pile is estimated from the sum of limit skin fraction and tip resistance. Accordingly, development of design method considering behavior of load-settlement is needed. In this study, we would like to establish the base for development of design method considering bearing capacity altering along displacement on settlement and compression. For this, we established system and substance of design method. And in order to establish relationship of load-settlement of pile on the type of soil, we analyzed and arranged existing database and pile loading test. On design method, settlement is assumed gradually on each capacity level being assumed gradually. Bearing capacity developing on the pile is obtained on each settlement level. Until the obtained bearing capacity will be equal to assumed capacity, this process is continued with increasing settlement. Load-settlement curve for soil classification is sketched in the process computing settlement on assumed capacity. This design method will be materialized by computation program.

The end bearing behavior of piles socketed in weathered/soft rock is generally dependent upon the mass conditions of rock with fractures rather than the strength of intact rock. However, there are few available data and little guidance in the prediction of the end bearing capacity of drilled shafts socketed in weathered/soft rock, considering rock mass weathering. Therefore, a database of 13 load tests was constructed first, and new empirical relationships between the base reaction modulus of piles in rock and rock mass properties were developed. No correlation was found between the compressive strengths of intact rock and the base reaction modulus of weathered/soft rock. The ground investigation data regarding the rock mass conditions(e.g. Em, Eur, RMR, RQD) was found to be highly correlated with the base reaction modulus, showing the coefficients of correlation greather than 0.7 in most cases. Additionally, the applicability of existing methods for the end bearing capacity of piles in rock was verified by comparison with the field test data.
