Laminated rubber bearing is the most commonly used device for seismic base isolation of bridge structures. It is important to know performance and behavior characteristics of the laminated rubber bearings. The main evaluation factors of the rubber bearing are classified as compressive, shear and tensile behavior characteristics. The reference data of compressive and shear characteristics are rich, but the reference data of tensile characteristics is scarce. In this study, tensile test results of the rubber bearing with variation of shape factor and shear deformation are investigated for mechanical property. When tensile deformation in normal condition is increasing, tensile cycle behavior curve becomes non-linear and tensile breaking point is 300%. On the other hand, tensile breaking point is shear deformation condition is about 40%. Furthermore, when shape factor is lower, tensile breaking point is decrease. This results mean that tensile breaking point is decreased in triaxial tensile deformation because of cracks caused by internal void of the rubber bearings. This experimental data can be used as the reference data of tensile characteristics for designing seismic isolation of structures.
The purpose of this article is to introduce a new virtual orthodontic treatment (VOT) system, which can be used to construct three-dimensional (3D) virtual models, establish a 3D virtual setup, enable the placement of the virtual brackets at the predetermined position, and fabricate the transfer jig with a customized bracket base for indirect bonding (IDB) using the stereolithographic technique. A 26-year-old woman presented with anterior openbite, crowding in the upper and lower arches, and narrow and tapered upper arch, despite having an acceptable profile and balanced facial proportion. The treatment plan was rapid palatal expansion (RPE) without extraction. After 10 days of RPE, sufficient space was obtained for decrowding. After a 10-week retention period, accurate pretreatment plaster models were obtained using silicone rubber impression. IDB was performed according to the protocol of the VOT system. Crowding of the upper and lower arches was effectively resolved, and anterior openbite was corrected to normal overbite. Superimposition of the 3D virtual setup models (3D-VSM) and post-treatment 3D virtual models showed that the latter deviated only slightly from the former. Thus, the use of the VOT system helped obtain an acceptable outcome in this case of mild crowding treated without extraction. More cases should be treated using this system, and the pre- and post-treatment virtual models should be compared to obtain feedback regarding the procedure; this will support doctors and dental laboratory technicians during the learning curve.
The structural integrity of welded joints in the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) is directly related to the safety of nuclear power plants. The RPV is made from SA508-III steel in a pressurized water reactor. In this study, we investigated the effects of temperature on the tensile and fracture toughness properties of Chinese SA508-III welded joint in different sampling areas in order to provide reference data for structural integrity assessments of RPVs. The specimens used in tensile and fracture toughness tests were fabricated from the base metal (BM), weld metal (WM), and the heat-affected zone (HAZ) in the welded joint. The representative testing temperatures included the ambient temperature (20 ℃), upper shelf temperature (100 ℃), and service temperature (320 ℃). The results showed that temperature greatly affected the fracture toughness (JIC) values for the SA508-III welded joint. The JIC values for BM and HAZ both decreased remarkably from 20 ℃ to 320 ℃. The fracture morphologies showed that the BM and HAZ in the welded joint exhibited fully ductile fracture at 20 ℃, whereas partial cleavage fracture was mixed in ductile fracture mode at 100 ℃ and 320 ℃. The WM exhibited the ductile and cleavage fracture mixed mode at various temperatures, and the JIC values showed slight changes.
THe purpose of this paper is to suggest the analytical method which can predict lateral nonlinear behavior in non-homogeneous soil using the coefficient of soil resistance and ultimate soil resistance. Those parameters are obtained through back analysis on the base of the results of a series of model tests.Analytical method of Chang is more or less difficult to predict nonlinear behavior in non-homogeneous sol. So, in this study, for the prediction of nonlinear behavior the compositive analytical method which apply the p - y curve to Chang model is suggested. Also, the program is developed to predict nonlinear behavior using the compositive analytical method and it can be used to calculated the deflection, bending moment and soil reaction with DFM in non-homogeneous soil. To establish applicability of the suggested analytical method, the results of model tests and field tests and Pentagon2D finite element program are compared with those of the compositive analytical method. In the analysis values of the coefficient of soil reaction and ultimate soil resistance are also applied to the case of non-homogeneous soil. Lateral defection calculated using the compositive analytical method has been found to be in good agreement with values measured in field and model load tests.

Post-grouting for the drilled shaft is known to increase the end bearing capacity of pile 2~3 times higher by consolidating and reinforcing the disturbed ground containing slime around the pile end. However, the general design guideline for post-grouting has not been established yet in Korea. Especially in the domestic application, the post-grouting is employed just for repairing the pile with the unacceptable resistance rather than for increasing the design resistance of pile. Therefore, little is reported about the effect of post-grouting on the pile resistance itself. In this study, the effect of post-grouting on the resistance of drilled shafts installed in the weathered rock in Korea was estimated by performing the bi-directional load tests on the piles with and without the post-grouting. The test results presented that the initial slope of end bearing-base displacement curve in the pile with post-grouting was 4 times higher than that without post-grouting. At the acceptable settlement (1% of pile diameter), the end bearing capacities of piles with and without the post-grouting were estimated to be 12.0 MPa and 7.0 MPa, respectively, indicating that the post-grouting could increase the end bearing resistance of pile in weathered rock more than 70%.

The rapid growth of the economy recently gas led to increasing social needs for large scaled structures, such as high-rise buildings and long span bridges. In building these large-scaled structures the trend has been to construct foundations beating on or in rock masses in order to ensure stability and serviceability of the structure under several significant loads. However. when designing the drilled shaft foundation socketed in rock masses in Korea, the bearing capacity for the pier used to be determined by using the empirical expression, which depends on the compressive strength of the rock, or presumable bearing capacity recommended on foreign references or manuals. In this study, numerical analyses are used to trace rock-socketed pile behavior and are made alike with pile load test result in field. The result of this numerical analyses study have shown that following factors have a significant influence on the load capacity and settlement of the pier. Significant influence first factor of the geometry of the socket as defined by the length to diameter ratio. Second factor of the modulus of the rock both around the socket and below the base. third factor of the condition of the end of the pier with respect to the removal of drill cuttings and other loose material from the bottom of the socket.
The purpose of this study is to find a root from naturalism to contribute the identity of Korean fashion design in the world which has universality and particularity. The beauty of nature has accumulated in our unconscious-ness, influenced to our unconsciousness, and contributed to make the formative sense. Our consciousness influenced by climate, for example, the sense of softness from soft curve which can feel from the sight of Korean mountain, land the sense of comfort and security from round rock formed by weathering, the sense of thick-ness from cotton to endure cold winter etc. has a tendency to thick and act by nature's law. This tendency made naturalism by Korean climate and linked to the sense of natural-istic beauty and became a important part forming the Korean fashion design. In this study, the researcher found Korean climate is a important factor acting in our consciousness, and influenced the formative sense. The concept of climate which is made our formative sense include topography, climate, soil, plant and so on. This influenced a lot to set up a foundation of Korean fashion design. And the naturalism by Korean climate newly created and developed shape, color, material and design. It is our duty to develope design based on naturalism to secure the competitive power against the world in this period of information and this design is getting important as a high value added method put into Korean culture. Therefore, developing Korean design which shapes the beauty of Korean nature and traditional culture will have a important competitive power in the world. Moreover, it will make a new tradition of Korean fashion culture stagnated by internationally universalized western fashion after the modernization. Also, it will be needed to develop a common design which can be agreed not only us but all the world for the request of these days of international. Therefore, this study contributed to find definite ours and found centripetal point to find the direction of Korean's philosophy and ideology. But this approach, we could secure the competitive power in this period of international and information and determine and develope the Korean fashion as a culture base, leading the world.
Reduction of dichromate at a platinum cathode in acid solution was studied by cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential electrolysis. Cathodic polarization curve consisted of three waves in unbuffered solution of potassium dichromate having initial pH ranges 1.5∼4.0, with sodium sulfate as the supporting electrolyte. Relative heights of the first and the second waves were, respectively, a function of chromium (Ⅵ) concentration and activity of hydrogen ion, but that of the third wave was not proportional to both of them. The current of the first two peaks were proportional to the sweep rate of potential (${\nu}$), while that of the last peak vs. ${\nu}^{1/2}$ was linear at the sweep rate of less than 50mV/sec. By the controlled potential electrolysis, the reduction of chromium (Ⅵ) was almost completely suppressed at potentials more negative than the last peak and at initial pH's above ca. 2.3 of unbuffered solution. Therefore, these peaks represented, respectively, $Cr_2O_7^{2-}{\to}Cr^{3+},\;2H^+{\to}H_2$ and the formation of a cathodic film.

Recently, many high-rise reinforced concrete(RC) bearing-wall structures of multiple uses have been constructed, which have the irregularities of weak(or soft) story and torsion at the lower stories simultaneously. The study stated herein was performed to investigate seismic performance of such a high-rise RC structure through a series of shaking table tests of a 1: 12 model. Based on the observations of the test results, the conclusions are drawn as follows: 1) Accidental torsion due to the uncertainty on the properties of structure can be reasonably predicted by using the dynamic analysis than by using lateral force procedure. 2) The mode coupled by translation and torsion induced the overturning moments not only in the direction of excitations but also in the perpendicular direction: The axial forces in columns due to this transverse overturning moment cannot be adequately predicted using the existing mode analysis technique, and 3) the hysteretic curve and the strength diagram between base shear and torque(BST) clearly reveal the predominant mode of vibrations and the failure mode.
The composition of the base glass was determined to be $Na_2O$ 15, $Fe_2O_3$ 35, $B_2O_3$ 0~20, $P_2O_5$ 30~50 by mole percent. The heating temperature for nucleation was determined by means of thermal expansion curve. Crystalline phases were investigated by X-ray diffraction method and I.R Spectra. Electrical conductivities of glass spec-imens were observed in the temperature range 25~20$0^{\circ}C$ The activation energies of these specimens were caculated. The results obtained were as follows : 1) The limit composition of the melts 15mol% $Na_2O$ 35mole% $Fe_2O_5$ 20mole% $B_2O_3$ 30mole% $P_2O_5$ was able to be formed into desired shapes during cooling, . 2) In the measurement of d. c conductivity($\delta$) on the glasses in the system $15Na_2O-35Fe_2O_3$-$B_2O_3$-(50-x) $P_2O_5$ the values decreased by replacing 5 mole% $P_2O_5$ with $B_2O_3$ 3) The d. c conducties of heat treated samples were increased by replacing $P_2O_5$ with $B_2O_3$ 4) $B_2O_3$ contributed to precipitate crystals such as${\gamma}$-$Fe_2O_3$$Fe_3O_4$ which had the advantage of electronic conduction in heat treated samples. 5) The slope plotted Log($\delta$) versus 1/T in this glass system was linear in the measured temperature range.
