  • The authors have measured and analyzed the values of Point C from roentgenocephalograms of Korean adults, 51 males and 53 females, with normal occlusion. The results were as follows. 1. The position of Point C was -4.73mm. in male and -4.74mm. in female. 2. In samples of harmonious maxillary and mandibular basal bones, the position of Point C was -4.02mm. in male, while that was -5.33mm. in female, respectively. 3. When N.F.-M.P.A. was become larger, the position of Point C was moved more upward; while M.R.P. was increased larger, it was moved more downward. 4. The position of Point C was depended on the distance form the cross point with nasal floor and mandibular plane to the points A and B.

  • The electronic structures of Gd$_{5}$Si$_2$Ge$_2$ compound, which has a giant magnetocaloric effect, in the monoclinic and orthorhombic phases were calculated using the tight-binding linear-muffin-tin-orbital method within the atomic-sphere approximation. The calculated total energies of the monoclinic and orthorhombic structures in the paramagnetic phase confirm that the orthorhombic structure is more stable than monoclinic structure. The density of states (DOS) at the Fermi level of the orthorhombic phase is higher than that of the monoclinic phase in the paramagnetic phase, fulfilling the Stoner criterion. The calculated charge density verified the breaking of Ge(Si)-Ge(Si) bonding in the basal plane upon the orthorhombic-monoclinic phase transition. The DOS curve fairly well reproduces the photoemission spectrum.m.

  • A reliable bonding between two silicon wafers, regularly grooved and non-grooved, was done by the direct boning technology, It is Presented that high structural duality was realized not only at the bended interface but in the bulk, commensurate with the filling of artificial grooves, which would be attributed to the dislocation-gettering capability of groove free-surfaces during annealing. The groove filling would be explained with mass-transport phenomena assisted by the dislocation movement from initial contact boundaries toward groove surfaces. Intrinsic voids can be easily removed by aid of the grooves. The proposed method yielded also an intimate bonding not only between {111} wafers strongly misoriented and slightly inclined to {111} basal plane but even between {111} and {100} orientation wafers.

  • The mechanical properties and optical micrographs are studied for rolled magnesium alloy sheet with hexagonal close packed structure(HCP) at room and elevated temperatures. Tensile properties such as tensile strength, elongation, R-value and n-value are also measured for AZ31 magnesium alloy. Magnesium with strong texture of basal plane parallel to the rolling direction usually has high R-value and plastic anisotropy at room temperature. As temperature increases, the R-value for AZ31 magnesium sheet decreases. In addition, the AZ31 sheet becomes isotropy and recrystallization above $200^{\circ}C$. Formability of magnesium alloy sheets remarkably poor at room temperature is improved by increasing temperature. Sheet forming of magnesium alloy is practically possible only at high temperature range where plastic anisotropy disappears.

  • ${\beta}$-SiC formation mechanism in Si melt-C-SiC system with varying in size of carbon source was investigated. A continuous reaction sintering process using Si melt infiltration method was adopted to control the reaction sintering time effectively. It was found that ${\beta}$-SiC formation mechanism in Si melt-C-SiC system was directly affected by the size of carbon source. In the Si melt-C-SiC system with large carbon source ${\beta}$-SiC formation mechanism could be divided into two stages depending on the reaction sintering time: in early stage of reaction sintering carbon dissolution in Si melt and precipitation of ${\beta}$-SiC was occurred preferentially and then SIC nucleation and growth was controlled by diffusion of carbon throughy the ${\beta}$-SiC layer formed on graphite particle. Furthmore a dissolution rate of graphite particles in Si melt could be accelerated by the infiltration of Si melt through basal plane of graphite crystalline.

  • We report a covalent functionalization of graphene nanoparticles (GnPs) employing 2,3,4-Tri-O-acetyl-${\beta}$-D-xylopyranosyl azide followed by fabrication of an epoxy/functionalized graphene nanocomposite and an evaluation of its thermo-mechanical performance. Successful functionalization of GnP was confirmed via thermal and spectroscopic study. Raman spectroscopy indicated that the functionalization was on the edge of the graphene sheets; the basal plane was not perturbed as a result of the functionalization. The epoxy/functionalized GnP composite system exhibited an increase in flexural modulus (~18%) and glass transition temperature (${\sim}10^{\circ}C$) compared to an un-functionalized GnP based epoxy composite.

  • The effects of Cu-addition and die-upset temperature on the texture in the die-upset Nd-lean $Nd_xFe_{93.5-(x+y)}-Cu_yGa_{0.5}B_6$ (x = 9-12, y = 0-2) alloys were investigated. The die-upset Cu-containing Nd-lean $Nd_{12}Fe_{81.5-y}-Cu_yGa_{0.5}B_6$ (y = 1, 2) alloys showed a considerable texture. Texture in the Nd-lean alloys developed through basal plane slip deformation. The Cu-addition reduced the melting point of grain boundary phase facilitating grain gliding during the die-upsetting, and providing a greater chance for the $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ grains to meet the deformation conditions. Die-upsetting at higher temperature facilitated grain gliding and plastic deformation, thus enhancing texture.

  • A new method to calculate the spin reorientation angle of cone anisotropy from magnetization curves of magnetically aligned powder is suggested. The spin reorientation angle of polycrystalline $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ determined by this method coincided with the results obtained from torque magnetometry or magnetization measurements on single crystal. The underestimation of about 9% is expected if the basal plane anisotropy is neglected in determination of the spin reorientation angle of $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ at 4.2 K.

  • For 6H-SiC single crystals which was obtained by sublimation growth (modified Lely process), the relation between the defects and the etch pits to be formed at the site of dislocations were discussed. Typical hexagonal etch pits were formed on (0001) basal plane. The similar hexagonal etch pit shapes were formed on the site of micropipe defects and it was realized that internal planar defects was formed with the same matrix crystal structure as grown crystals, through the observation of the etching morphology at those internal defects.
