Despite the development of the various navigational equipment, such as GPS, ARPA, ECDIS, AIS, VDR, and hull monitoring system, marine accidents are still a leading concern in shipping industry. For all accidents over the reporting period, approximately 60 to 80% of the accidents was involved in human error. It means that in each case, some events which were associated with human error initiated an accident, and those failures of human performance led to the failure to avoid an accident or mitigate it's consequences. However, the improvement and the effort on the maritime human error are still limited in an elementary step. The objective of this paper is to propose a modified Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) model in order to analyse the collision accidents of tug-barge ship.
Recently, floating offshore structure is studied as one of the effective utilization of the ocean space. And floating structure are now being considered for various applications such as floating airports, offshore cities and so on. The analysis of the dynamic response as it receives regular wave is studied. The finite element method is used in the analysis of structural section of this model. And the analysis is carried out using the boundary element method in the fluid division. In order to know the characteristics of the dynamic response of the floating structures, effects of wavelength, water depth, and wave direction on dynamic response of the floating structure are studied by use of numerical calculation.
The weight of a ship depends on the size of the ship. Normal lightweight of a ship is over 10,000 tons. So it is inevitable to divide a ship into about more than hundreds of lumps. Each of lumps is called as a block in shipbuilding. The sizes of blocks are decided by a yard's facilities. Among them lifting cranes are most decisive facilities. By block's size the productivity of a yard is decided very much. So it is very important to have a proper block division during shipbuilding. This paper refers to the recent trend of block division among yards. This paper would give an idea how to decide boundaries of blocks. Block division also decides both quality of a ship and work volume of it. These days the block erection method is changed dramatically due to use sea barge mounted crane for erection of a grand ring block. This paper explains the new trend of block division in shipbuilding.
Skeletal muscle insulin resistance, which increases the risk for developing various metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, is a common metabolic disorder in obesity and aging. If potential treatments are to be developed to treat insulin resistance, then it is important to fully understand insulin signaling and glucose metabolism. While recent large-scale "omics" studies have revealed the acetylome to be comparable in size to the phosphorylome, the acetylation of insulin signaling proteins and its functional relevance to insulin-stimulated glucose transport and glucose metabolism is not fully understood. In this Mini Review we discuss the acetylation status of proteins involved in the insulin signaling pathway and review their potential effect on, and relevance to, insulin action in skeletal muscle.
Three-dimensional turbulent flows over ship sterns are measured by using the hot-wire anemometer and static holes in the wind tunnel. A conventional stern and a barge-type stern are adopted for the present study. Three components of mean velocities, pressures on the hull and six components of Reynolds stresses are measured. Longitudinal velocity contours are more parallel to the hull surface and weak bilge vortices appear on the barges type stern rather than the conventional stern. Those viscous flow patterns may have close relations to improvements of the resistance and propulsion performance, which have been verified in the towing tests. Measured data files are valuable for the ensuing numerical studies.
Exact solution on the anti-symmetric response of ships having uniform sectional properties in waves is derived. Boundary value problem consisted of Timoshenko beam equation and free-free end condition is solved analytically. The responses are assumed as linear and wave loads are calculated by using strip method. Horizontal bending moment, shear force and torsional moment are calculated. The developed analysis model is used for the benchmark test of the numerical codes in this problem. Also the application on the preliminary design of barge-like ships and VLFS (Very Large Floating Structure) is expected

In recent days, many manufacturing factories have been established and operated along riversides or on sea coasts. In consequence thereof, modern inland vessels with their small draught but large carrying capacity have been developed to operate as a single unit or in convoy with a barge. Knowledge in the behaviour of inland cargo vessels in shallow water exists presumably in U.S.A., U.S.S.R. and West Germany Literature available on this subject is quite limited. Model tests were carried out, both in calm water and in waves to obtain hull lines, which not only improve the seaworthiness of inland vessels but also permit to run in convey with other vessels on inland waterways. The results, which to some extent have also been tested in full scale, are entirely satisfactory. This paper discribes the resistance of some newly developed inland water cargo vessels.
