We present the optimum design for the cross-sectional(sizing) and shape optimization of truss structures with natural frequency constraints. The optimum design method used in this paper employs continuous design variables and the Harmony Search Algorithm(HSA). HSA is a meta-heuristic search method for global optimization problems. In this paper, HSA uses the method of random number selection in an update process, along with penalty parameters, to construct the initial harmony memory in order to improve the fitness in the initial and update processes. In examples, 10-bar and 72-bar trusses are optimized for sizing, and 37-bar bridge type truss and 52-bar(like dome) for sizing and shape. Four typical truss optimization examples are employed to demonstrate the availability of HSA for finding the minimum weight optimum truss with multiple natural frequency constraints.
For a distance-regular graph with valency k, second largest eigenvalue r and diameter D, it is known that r ≥ $min\{\frac{{\lambda}+\sqrt{{\lambda}^2+4k}}{2},\;a_3\}$ if D = 3 and r ≥ $\frac{{\lambda}+\sqrt{{\lambda}^2+4k}}{2}$ if D ≥ 4, where λ = a1. This result can be generalized to the class of edge-regular graphs. For an edge-regular graph with parameters (v, k, λ) and diameter D ≥ 4, we compare $\frac{{\lambda}+\sqrt{{\lambda}^2+4k}}{2}$ with the local valency λ to find a relationship between the second largest eigenvalue and the local valency. For an edge-regular graph with diameter 3, we look at the number $\frac{{\lambda}-\bar{\mu}+\sqrt{({\lambda}-\bar{\mu})^2+4(k-\bar{\mu})}}{2}$, where $\bar{\mu}=\frac{k(k-1-{\lambda})}{v-k-1}$, and compare this number with the local valency λ to give a relationship between the second largest eigenvalue and the local valency. Also, we apply these relationships to distance-regular graphs.

The paper is a summary of the results of the basic pullout test which is conducted to evaluate the anchorage capacity of high strength headed bars that is mechanical anchored vertically on steel fiber reinforced concrete members. The main experimental parameters are volume fraction of steel fiber, concrete strength, anchorage length, yield strength of headed bars, and shear reinforcement bar. Both sides of covering depth of the specimen are planned to double the diameter of the headed bars. The hinged point is placed at the position of each 1.5𝑙dt and 0.7𝑙dt around the headed bars, and the headed bars are drawn directly. As a result of pullout test experiment, concrete fracture and steel tensile rupture appear by experimental parameters. The compressive strength of concrete is 2.7~5.4% higher than that of steel fiber with the same parameters, while the pullout strength is 20.9~63.1% higher than that of steel fiber without the same parameters, which is evaluated to contribute greatly to the improvement of the anchorage capacity. The reinforcements of shear reinforcements parallel to the headed bars increased 1.7~7.7% pullout strength for steel fiber reinforced concrete, but the effect on the improvement of the anchorage capacity was not significant considering the increase in concrete strength. As with the details of this experiment, it is believed that the design formula for the anchorage length of KCI2017and KCI2012 are suitable for the mechanical development design of SD600 head bar that is perpendicular to the steel fiber reinforced concrete members.

FRP reinforced lightweight concrete structures can offer corrosion resistance and weight reduction effect simultaneously, so practical use of the structures may be expected afterwards. But to make concrete structures using lightweight concrete and FRP bar, that can resist external forces without internal slip of the FRP bar, it is very important to understand bond characteristic between lightweight concrete and FRP bar. During that time, a lot of studies for bond behaviors of FRP bar in normal concrete were conducted, but studies for bond behavior of FRP bar in lightweight concrete are very limited to date. So, bond characteristic between lightweight concrete and helically deformed GFRP bar was investigated in this study. Three main parameters were considered in experimental investigation: type of rebar, concrete type, and compressive strength of lightweight concrete. As an experimental result, it could be known that bond strength of helically deformed GFRP bar in lightweight concrete was 0.49 times bond strength of steel reinforcement in normal concrete.
The aim of this study is to characterize a thixoextruded 7075 Al wrought alloy bar in terms of its isotropic behavior through the optical microscope, mechanical test and electron back scattered diffraction. It is also discussed of the extrudability improvement for 7075 Al wrought alloy by thixoextrusion, with emphasis on controlling thixoextrusion parameters. Hot extrusion shows that the maximum extrusion pressure depends on their characteristics in terms of flow stress and hot workability. In the contrary, thixoextrusion demonstrates that the maximum extrusion pressure is almost uniform regardless of the experimental parameters, such as initial ram speed, die bearing length and thixoextrusion temperature. The hot extruded microstructures become elongated to extrusion direction, while the thixoextruded microstructures are isotropic and homogeneously distributed due to the existence of liquid phase between solid grains during the process. The grain refinement due to dynamic recrystallization during thixoextrusion has been also occurred. Subsequent recrystallization would lead to the strengthening of mechanical properties, as observed in the study. The important point is that the values of tensile, yield strength and elongation of the thixoextruded bar without plastic deformation are similar to those of the hot extruded bar with severe plastic deformation.
The purpose of this study is to offer acoustical database of warp knitted fabrics by investigating frictional sound properties and physiological responses according to structural parameters such as construction, lap form, and direction of mutual guide bar movement. Fabric sounds of seven warp knitted fabrics are recorded, and Zwicker's psychoacoustic parameters - loudness(Z), sharpness(Z), roughness(Z), and fluctuation strength(Z) - are calculated. Also, physiological responses evoked by frictional sounds of warp knitted fabrics are measured such as electroencephalogram (EEG), the ratio of high frequency to low frequency (HF/LF), respiration rate (RESP), skin conductance level (SCL), and photoplethysmograph (PPG). In case of constructions, frictional sound of sharkskin having higher loudness(Z) and fluctuation strength(Z) increases RESP. By lap form, open lap has louder and larger fluctuating sound than closed lap, but there aren't significant difference of physiological responses between open lap and closed lap. In direction of mutual guide bar movement, parallel direction evokes bigger changes of beta wave than counter direction because of its loud, rough, and fluctuating sound. Fluctuation strength(Z) and roughness(Z) are defined as important factors for predicting physiological responses in construction and mutual guide bar movement, respectively.
Employing discrete elements for considering bond-slip effects in reinforced concrete structures is very time consuming. In this study, a new modified embedded element method is used to consider the bond-slip phenomenon in structural behavior of reinforced concrete structures. A comprehensive parametric study of RC slabs is performed to determine influence of different variables on structural behavior. The parametric study includes a set of simple models accompanied with complex models such as multi-storey buildings. The procedure includes the decrease in the effective stiffness of steel bar in the layered model. Validation of the proposed model with existing experimental results demonstrates that the model is capable of considering the bond-slip effects in embedded elements. Results demonstrate the significant effect of bond-slip on total behavior of structural members. Concrete characteristic strengths, steel yield stress, bar diameter, concrete coverage and reinforcement ratios are the parameters considered in the parametric study. Results revealed that the overall behavior of slab is significantly affected by bar diameter compared with other parameters. Variation of steel yield stress has insignificant impact in static response of RC slabs; however, its effect in cyclic behavior is important.

For statistical process control, the process data are collected by the measurement system. But, the measurement system may have instrument error or/and operator error. In the measured values of products, the total observed variance consists of process variance and variance due to error of measurement system. In this paper, we design more practical T-s control chart considering estimated measurement error The effects of measurement error on the expected total cost and design parameters are investigated.

In this study, micro genetic algorithm is used to find an optimum cross section of grid structures with pretension. Design optimization of trusses consists of arriving at optimum sizes of cross-section and prestressing force parameters, when weight of the truss is minimum, satisfying a set of specified constraints. The present approach is verified by ten-bar truss example showing good agreements with previous results. Features of the proposed method, which help in modeling and application to optimal design of pretensioned truss structures, are demonstrated by solving a problem of seventy two bar truss structures. The minimum weight design of seventy two bar truss is performed for various magnitudes of pretension and optimal prestressing forces are also found for various configurations of pretensioned truss structures.

An experimental investigation on the relationship between corrosion of reinforcement and bond strength in pull-out test specimen has been conducted to establish the allowable limit of rust of reinforcement in the construction field. The reinforcing bars used in this study were rusted before embedded in pull-out test specimen. The first component of this experiment is to make reinforcing bar rust electrically based on Faraday's theory to be 2, 4, 6, 8 and $10\%$ of reinforcing bar weight. For estimation of the amount of rust by weight, Clarke's solution and shot blasting were adopted and compared. Parameters also include 24 and 45MPa of concrete compressive strengths and diameter of reinforcing bar (16, 19 and 25mm). Pull-out tests were carried out according to KS F 2441 and ASTM C 234. Results show that up to $2\%$ of rust increases the bond strength regardless of concrete strength and diameter of reinforcing bar. As expected, the bond strength increases as compressive strength of concrete increases and the diameter of bar decreases.
