Modern computers provide tremendous computing capability and a large memory system. Hybrid memories consist of next generation memory devices and are adopted in high performance systems. However, the increased complexity of the microprocessor makes it difficult to operate the system effectively. In this paper, we propose a simple data migration method called Bandwidth-aware Data Migration (BDM) to efficiently use memory systems for high performance processors with hybrid memory. BDM monitors the status of applications running on the system using hardware performance monitoring tools and migrates the appropriate pages of selected applications to High Bandwidth Memory (HBM). BDM selects applications whose bandwidth usages are high and also evenly distributed among the threads. Experimental results show that BDM improves execution time by an average of 20% over baseline execution.

This paper proposes history-aware random early detection (HRED), a modified version of RED, to lessen bandwidth monopoly by a few of stations employing multiple parallel TCP flows. Stations running peer-to-peer file sharing applications such as BitTorrent use multiple TCP flows. If those stations share a link with other stations with only a small number of TCP flows, the stations occupy most of link bandwidth leading to undesirable bandwidth monopoly. HRED like RED determines whether to drop incoming packets according to probability which changes based on queue length. However it adjusts the drop probability based on bandwidth occupying ratio of stations, thus able to impose harder drop penalty on monopoly stations. The results of simulations assuming various scenarios show that HRED is at least 60% more effective than RED in supporting the bandwidth fairness among stations and at least 4% in utilization.

Recently, many multimedia services have emerged in Internet such as real-time and non- real time services. However, in this Internet environment, we have some limitations to satisfy each service feature. To guarantee the service features in Measurement-Based Admission Control(MBAC) based system on the flow-aware network, there is the method applying Dynamic Priority Scheduling(DPS) algorithm that gives a higher priority to an earlier incoming flow in all of the link bandwidth. This paper classifies all flows under several groups according to flow characteristics on per-flow MBAC algorithm based system. In each flow group, DPS algorithm is applied. This paper proposes two methods that are a DPS based bandwidth borrowing method and a bandwidth dynamic allocation method. The former is that if low priority class has available bandwidths, the flow of high priority class borrows the bandwidth of low priority class when high priority flow has insufficient bandwidth to connect a flow call. The later is that the each group has a minimum bandwidth and is allocated the bandwidth dynamically according to the excess rate for available bandwidth. We compare and analyze the characteristics of the two proposed methods through the simulation experiments. As the results of the experiment, the proposed methods are more effective than existing DPS based method on the packet loss and delay characteristics. Consequently the proposed two methods are very useful in various multimedia network environments.
This paper proposes a bandwidth-aware localized-routing algorithm that is capable of sensing the available spectrum bands within a two-hop neighboring for choosing the highly opportunistic routes. A mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) is utilized to formulate the optimization problem. Then, the proposed algorithm is used to determine the maximum bandwidth possible of link pairs via a bandwidth approximation process of relaxed variables. Thereby, the proposed algorithm can allow selected routes corresponding to maximum bandwidth possible between cognitive radio (CR) users through link pairs in cognitive radio networks. By comparing the solution values to previous works, simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can offer a closed-optimal solution for routing performance in cognitive radio networks. The contribution of this paper is achieved through approximately 50% throughput utilized in the network.
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a service-aware optical transport system. The proposed service-aware optical transport system makes a flow based on service type and priority of traffic. The generated flow is mapped to a corresponding sub-${\lambda}$ for transport over an optical network. Using sub-${\lambda}$ provided by the centralized control plane, we could effectively provide quality-of-service guaranteed Ethernet service and best-effort service simultaneously in a single link. The committed information rate (CIR) traffic and best-effort traffic are assigned to different sub-${\lambda}s$. The bandwidth of the CIR traffic is guaranteed without being affected by violation traffic because the bandwidth is managed per each sub-${\lambda}$. The failure detection time and restoration time from a link failure is measured to be about 60 ${\mu}s$ and 22 ms, respectively, in the ring network. The measured restoration time is much smaller than the 50 ms industry requirement for real-time services. The fast restoration time allows the proposed service-aware optical transport system to offer high availability and reliability which is a requirement for transport networks.
In wireless mesh network, studies on routing protocols have been actively carried out recently, and hop count is used as a major routing metric in destination-sequenced distance-vector (DSDV) routing protocol, which is a representative proactive routing protocol. Although hop-by-hop multi-path (HMP) DSDV and enhanced HMP (EHMP) DSDV routing protocols perform routing by considering both hop count and residual bandwidth within one hop distance nodes, it has a shortcoming that routing is carried out via non-optimal path from the aspect of end-to-end routing. In order to overcome the shortcoming, a cost-aware multi-path (CAMP) DSDV routing protocol is proposed in this paper, which considers hop count and end-to-end minimum residual bandwidth. Simulation results based on NS-2 show that the proposed routing protocol performs better than DSDV, HMP DSDV, and EHMP DSDV protocols from the aspect of throughput and packet delivery ratio, by appropriately using hop count and end-to-end minimum residual bandwidth information and has the same number of management messages with HMP DSDV and EHMP DSDV protocols.

As a special type of Wireless Ad Hoc Networks, Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) have become the comer stone of research issues. Due to the limited operational environment of WMNs, an efficient connected dominating set (CDS) construction scheme is an important concern since it has been found extremely useful in broadcasting, routing and virtual backbone construction. In this paper, we propose a distributed Bandwidth-Interference aware CDS construction scheme to improve the network performance via two parameters such as node's number of neighbor and link bandwidth. Our CDS construction scheme selects the node that has more neighbors and enough bandwidth to support more end-devices in order to enhance overall network throughput and reliability. We confirm through simulations and show that our scheme constructs the CDS with the small subset of DS and the link that has better bandwidth.
Opportunistic routing (OR) has been proposed as a viable approach to improve the performance of wireless multihop networks with lossy links. However, the exponential growth of the bandwidth-sensitive mobile traffic (e.g., mobile video streaming and online gaming) poses a great challenge to the performance of OR in term of bandwidth guarantee. To solve this problem, a novel mechanism is proposed to opportunistically forwarding data packets and provide bandwidth guarantee for the bandwidth-sensitive traffic. The proposal exploits the broadcast characteristic of wireless transmission and reduces the negative effect of wireless lossy links. First, the expected available bandwidth (EAB) and the expected transmission cost (ETC) under OR are estimated based on the local available bandwidth, link delivery probability, forwarding candidates, and prioritization policy. Then, the policies for determining and prioritizing the forwarding candidates is devised by considering the bandwidth and transmission cost. Finally, bandwidth-aware routing algorithm is proposed to opportunistically delivery data packets; meanwhile, admission control is applied to admit or reject traffic flows for bandwidth guarantee. Extensive simulation results show that our proposal consistently outperforms other existing opportunistic routing schemes in providing performance guarantee.

In this paper, we propose a QoS-aware efficient bandwidth re-provisioning scheme in a next generation wireless packet transport network. At the transport network layer, it classifies the traffic of the radio network layer into a real time class and a non-real time class. Using an auto-regressive time-series model and a given packet loss probability, our scheme predicts the needed bandwidth of the non-real time class at every re-provisioning interval. Our scheme increases the system capacity by releasing the unutilized bandwidth of the non-real time traffic class for the real-time traffic class while insuring a controllable upper bound on the packet loss probability of a non-real time traffic class. Through empirical evaluations using the real Internet traffic traces, our scheme is validated that it can increase the bandwidth efficiency while guaranteeing the quality of service requirements of the non-real time traffic class.

In earlier days, most of the data carried on communication networks was textual data requiring limited bandwidth. With the rise of multimedia and network technologies, the bandwidth requirements of data have increased considerably. If a network link at any time is not able to meet the minimum bandwidth requirement of data, data transmission at that path becomes difficult, which leads to network congestion. This causes delay in data transmission and might also lead to packet drops in the network. The retransmission of these lost packets would aggravate the situation and jam the network. In this paper, we aim at providing a solution to the problem of network congestion in mobile ad hoc networks [1, 2] by designing a protocol that performs routing intelligently and minimizes the delay in data transmission. Our Objective is to move the traffic away from the shortest path obtained by a suitable shortest path calculation algorithm to a less congested path so as to minimize the number of packet drops during data transmission and to avoid unnecessary delay. For this we have proposed a protocol named as Congestion Aware Selection Of Path With Efficient Routing (CASPER). Here, a router runs the shortest path algorithm after pruning those links that violate a given set of constraints. The proposed protocol has been compared with two link state protocols namely, OSPF [3, 4] and OLSR [5, 6, 7, 8].The results achieved show that our protocol performs better in terms of network throughput and transmission delay in case of bulky data transmission.
