  • In this paper, a PFC(Power Factor Correction) electronic ballast with constant voltage-fed is proposed. The proposed PFC electronic ballast is combined of a high-efficiency boost converter and a conventional half bridge inverter. It is proved that the ripple of input-current and the input-current's harmonic of the proposed PFC electronic ballast are reduced using the voltage divider and soft-switching technique. It is demonstrated that simulation results for fluorescent lamp correspond with theoretical analysis.

  • Proposed electronic ballast circuit for harmonic reduction includes adding lossless snubber circuit to DC-DC converter. To get inverter for changing DC-AC, a lamp has been changed to equivalence resistance in the standard lamp voltage and current data, also inverter circuit has been interpreted by being changed to R, L, C equivalence circuit. Using converted equivalent circuit, the most suitable circuit constant which can satisfy the characteristics of fluorescent lamps has been decided on and finally designed. It could not only eliminate distortion waveform from pulsation frequency in inverter direct side current but also reduce considerably pulsation rate and switching loss by making input current of inverter discontinuous. The validity for the results of this study has been verified through the experiment to measure harmonic occurrence after applying a newly-manufactured product of electronic ballast to 40 W line tube style fluorescent lamps.

  • Several power factor correction(PFC) circuits are presented to achieve high PF electronic ballast for both voltage-fed and current-fed electronic ballast. The proposed PFC circuits use valley-fill(VF) type DC-link stages modified from the conventional VF circuit to adopt the charge pumping method for PFC operations during the valley intervals. In voltage-fed ballast, charge pump capacitors are connected with the resonant capacitors. In current-fed type, the charge pump capacitors are connected with the additional secondary-side of the power transformer. The measured PF and THD are higher than 0.99 and 15% for all proposed PFC circuits. The lamp current CF is also acceptable in the proposed circuits. The proposed circuit is suitable for implementing cost-effective electronic ballast.

  • A dimmable ballast system for the electrodeless fluorescent lamp is proposed. The proposed scheme is composed of the electronic ballast and the wireless communication part. They both are realized with one EPLD (Erasable Programmable Logic Device). The dimming levels of each lamps can be controlled by a management system through wireless communication technology. 10 ballasts are used for the group lighting system and the experiment results show the system works well.

  • The fluorescent lamp has been successfully modeled by employing the radial variation of particle density and considering driving circuit effects on the characteristics of discharge process. The electron energy distribution is assumed to have a Maxwellian. The electron mobility and the ambipolar diffusion coefficients are considered to vary with an electron energy rather than a simple uniform value. Energy states of mercury atom in the discharge process are regarded as six levels rather than simple 4 or 5 levels. These discharge processes have been accurately solved by numerically employing mixed the FDM and the 2nd Runge-Kutta method. This model was applied to analyzing real circuit. Simulation and experimental results were presented to verify the feasibility of the modeling. Simulation and experimental results were presented to verify the feasibility of the modeling.

  • Recently, according to the industrial development relative to multimedia, demand of display system is radically increase, thus development for power supply of back-lighting is advanced lively. Fluorescent lamp operated at high frequency by the electronic ballast provide benefits like unnoticeable flicker effect and higher luminous efficiency. This paper presents analysis of Push-Pull type resonant inverter for CCFL drive for stable characteristic and life improvement of fluorescent lamp operated at high frequency. Also it has proposed design procedure of Current-Fed type resonant inverter. On the basis of equivalent circuit, component characteristic and suitable region of operation frequency from simulation using Matlab and Pspice is predicted. Suitability of applied equivalent model and validity of design process from the experimental results with CCFL inverter.

  • This paper investigates the optimal design of an electronic ballast of half bridge inverter type in consideration of the variation of ambient temperatures for a 15[W] triple-type compact fluorescent lamp. The performances of electronic ballasts under different values or the capacitance ratio in the resonant tank circuit are compared with each other in the practical temperature range between 15[$^{\circ}C$] and 35[$^{\circ}C$] to determine its optimum value. As a result, the optimum value is found to be such that $C_1/C_2=10$ at which value starting of the lamp is most stable and light output reaches its maximum value with lowest variation.

  • A impedance model simulating the electrical characteristics of the Electrodeless fluorescent lamp operated at high frequency is proposed. The model is constructed from a two parameter equation which is derived based on a set of two measurements. This is a readily constructed and computer simulator oriented model which is suitable for a preliminary design of electronic ballasts. Simulated and experimental results are used to verify the analytical discussions, and moreover, an electronic ballast design example using the proposed model is presented to further demonstrate ist applications.
