Characteristics of Barium Hexaferrite Nanoparticles Prepared by Temperature-Controlled Chemical Coprecipitation

  • Ba-ferrite ($BaFe_{12}O_{19}$) nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical coprecipitation method in an aqueous solution. The particle size and the crystallization temperature of the Ba-ferrite nanoparticles were controlled varying the precipitation temperature. The precipitate that was prepared at $0^{\circ}C$ showed the crystal structure of Ba-ferrite in X-ray diffraction when it was calcined at the temperature above $580^{\circ}C$, whereas what was prepared at $50^{\circ}C$ showed the crystallinity when it was calcined at the temperature higher than about $700^{\circ}C$. The particle sizes of the synthesized Ba-ferrite were in a range of about 20-30 nm when it was prepared by being precipitated at $0^{\circ}C$ and calcined at $650^{\circ}C$. When the precipitation temperature increased, the particle size also increased even at the same calcination temperature. The magnetic properties of the Ba-ferrite nanoparticles were also controlled by the synthetic condition of precipitation and calcination temperature. The coercive force could be appreciably lowered without a loss of saturation magnetization when the Ba-ferrite nanoparticles were prepared by precipitation and calcination both at low temperatures.

  • In order to synthesize Ba-ferrite fine particles by molten salt method and inhibit the abnormal grain growth of sintered specimen, KCI anti NaCl were added to basic composition to 50% by weight, and added 1 male% of $SiO_2$ to control the shape of Ba-ferrite particles. $H_{c}$ and $M_{r}$ were decreased when F $e^{3+}$ was substituted with $Co_{2+}$ and $Ti_{4+}$ from x=0 to x=1.0 in $BaFe_{12-2x}$ $Ti_{x}$ $Co_{x}$ $O_{19}$ , and 1 mole% $SiO_2$ increased the size but shortened c-axis of hexagonal ferrite. Seeds added in Ba-ferrite particle effected inhibition of abnormal grain growth during sintering.ing.g.

Crystallization of Ba-ferrite/sapphire(001) Thin Films Studied by Real-Time Synchrotron X-ray Scattering

  • The crystallization of amorphous Ba-ferrite/sapphire(001) thin films was studied in real-time synchrotron x-ray scattering experiments. In the sputter-grown amorphous films, we found the existence of epitaxial $Fe_3O_4$ interfacial crystallites (50-${\AA}$-thick), well aligned $[0.03^circ$full-width at half-maximum (FWHM)] to the sapphire [001] direction. The amorphous precursor was crystallized to epitaxial Ba-ferrite and \alpha-Fe_2O_3$grains in two steps; i) the nucleation of crystalline \alpha-Fe_2O_3$ phase started at $300^circ{C}$ together with the transformation of the $Fe_3O_4$ crystallites to the \alpha-Fe_2O_3$ crystallites, ii) the nucleation of Ba-ferrite phase occurred at temperature above $600^circ{C}$. In the crystallized films irrespective of the film thickness, the crystal domain size of the \alpha-Fe_2O_3$grains was about 250 ${\AA}$ in the film plane, similar to that of the Ba-ferrite grains.

  • 본 연구에서는 TiO$_2$ 하지층이 첨가된 hexagonal barium-ferrite(BaM) 박막을 RF/DC magnetron sputtering system을 이용하여 상온에서 증착한 후, 여러 온도에서 열처리하여 결정화하였다. BaM박막에 TiO$_2$ 하지층을 첨가하여 열처리한 경우 Si와 BaM의 (006), (106), (114), (217), (2011) peak들이 사라지고 (008)의 intensity가 낮아졌으며 SiO$_2$와 (116), (302)의 peak들이 성장하였음을 XRD pattern을 통하여 알 수 있었다. BaM 박막의 자기적 특성을 VSM을 통하여 알아본 결과, 보자력, 잔류자화, 각형비 등의 자기적인 특성들은 수직에 비해 수평이 더 좋게 나타났는데, 이러한 결과로 박막면에 평행한 방향으로의 자화용이축이 존재하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. SEM을 통하여 증착압력 및 열처리 시간에 따른 결정화 정도와 자기적 특성을 알아본 결과 5 mTor 보다 10 mTrr에서 더 좋게 나타났으며, 열처리를 시작한 뒤 10분 이내에 750 $^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 대부분의 특성변화가 일어났음을 알 수 있었다.

수열합성 Ba-Ferrite분말의 조성과 자성에 미치는 열처리 효과 (Effects of Heat Treatment on the Composition and Magnetic Properties of the Hydrothermal-Synthesized Ba-Ferrite Powder)

  • After Ba-ferrite powders synthesized hydrothermally and its heated powders were dissolved partially with HCl treatment time, the BaO/Fe2O3 mole ratio of dissolved solutions and powders were measured by AAS, also, lattice constants, particle morphology and magnetic properties in HCl treated, heated and no-heated Ba-ferrite powders were abtained by means of XRD, SEM and VSM, respectively. From above analysis results, the effect of Ba/Fe mole ration in suspension(as starting material) on the BaO/Fe2O3 composition and particle characteristics of products were investigated, and the effect of heat treatment on magnetic properties of products examined. The composition, lattice constant and crystal phase of products depend on the Ba/Fe mole ratio in suspension. Ba content in surface or outer part of Ba-ferrite powder is higher than inner and heterogeneous, and the excess Ba ions in the inner part of particle move into the outer by heating, so that the mole ratio of BaO/Fe2O3 in the more jinner approaches more to the stoichiometric composition 1 : 6. The crystallinity, coercivity and saturation magnetization of products are increased by heat treatment, and the heat-treated samples synthesized hydrothermally in lower temperature are appreciated to have better powder characteristics.

Ba-Ferrite와 GC, CBN을 이용한 자기 연마재 개발 (Development of The Magnetic Abrasive Using Ba-Ferrite and GC, CBN)

  • The magnetic polishing is the useful method to finish some machinery fabrications by using magnetic power. This method is one of the precision polishing techniques and has an aim for clean technology in the transportation of the pure gas in the clean pipes. The magnetic abrasive polishing method is not so common in the field of machine that it is not known to widely. There are only few researchers in this field because of non-effectiveness of magnetic abrasive. Therefore, in this paper deals with development of the magnetic abrasive using Ba-Ferrite. In this development, abrasive grain GC and CBN has been made by using the resin bond fabricated at low temperature. And magnetic abrasive powder was fabricated from the Ba-Ferrite which was crushed into 200 mesh. The XRD analysis result shows that only GC, CBN and Ba-Ferrite crystal peaks were detected, explaining that resin bond was not any more to contribute chemical reaction. From SEM analysis, we found that GC, CBN abrasive and Ba-Ferrite were strongly bonding with each other.

  • 본 연구에서는 여러 하지층이 첨가된 hexagonal barium-ferrite(BaM) 박막을 RF/DC magnetron sputtering system을 이용하여 상온에서 증착한 후, 850 $^{\circ}C$에서 10분간 열처리하여 결정화하였다. BaM 박막에 여러 하지층을 첨가하여 고온 열처리한 경우 수평방향의 (107), (114) peak과 수직방향의 (006), (008) peak이 같이 관찰되어 결정이 random한 방향으로 성장되었다는 것을 알 수 있었다. BaM 박막의 자기적 특성을 VSM을 통하여 알아본 결과, 보자력 , 잔류자화, 각형비 등의 자기적인 특성들은 수직에 비해 수평이 좀더 좋게 나타났는데, 이러한 결과로 박막면에 평행한 방향으로의 자화용이축이 존재하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. SEM과 AFM을 통하여 표면의 모양을 살펴본 결과 grain size는 박막의 두께가 두꺼워지면서 증가하였으며, 300 $\AA$ 두께에서 판상모양과 긴 모양의 grain들이 관찰되었다. 이러한 grain 모양은 박막의 두께가 600$\AA$으로 증가할 때까지 계속되는 것을 관찰하였으나, 1500$\AA$의 두께에서는 단지 긴 모양의 grain들만이 관찰되었다.

용융염법으로 합성한 Ba-ferrite 입자의 특성 (Properties of ba-ferrite Particles Synthesized by Molten Salt Method)

  • In order to synthesize Ba-ferrite particles by molten salt method KCl and NaCl were added to basic composition to 50% by weight. X was varied from 0.0 to 1.0 to control the magnetic properties in $BaFe_{12-2x}$/ $Co_{x}$ / $Ti_{x}$ / $O_{19}$ and 1 mol% of $SiO_2$was added to control the aspect ratio of hexagonal platelets. And the effects of reaction temperatures were examined by varying the temperature from 85$0^{\circ}C$ to 120$0^{\circ}C$ with 5$0^{\circ}C$ intervals. Eutectic composition of NaCl and KCl lowered the crystallizing temperature of Ba-ferrite in molten salts than using KCl and NaCl separatly. The morphology of resulting Ba-ferrite particles was clearly hexagonal-shaped plates. $H_{c}$ and $M_{r}$ were decreased when F $e^{3+}$ was substitued with $Co^{2+}$ and $Ti^{4+}$ from x=0 to x=1.0 in $BaFe_{12-2x}$/ $Co_{x}$ / $Ti_{x}$ / $O_{19}$ . Adding 1mol% $SiO_2$in molten salt method increased the size but shortened c-axis of the hexagonal ferrites and this result is an opposite phenomenon compared with the result in solid-statge reaction.n.ion.n.

  • Sr-ferrite having magnetoplumbite structure is similar to Ba-ferrite in magnetic characteristics, but better magnetic characteristics for using motor application. To improve remanence magnetic flux density(Br) and coercive force(iHc), it is necessary that sintered ferrites must have high density and grain size less than 1 $\mu$m. By varying n values in SrO.nFe2O3 basic composition, calcination temperature, and BaO addition, Sr-ferrite powder and sintered specimen was prepared. The n values, calcination temperature, and BaO addition affected secondary phase formation, particle size, and particle shape. BaO addition enhanced Fe2O3 secondary phase and hexagonal shape particle. Fe2O3 phase reduced sintered density which greatly decreased Br.

  • In this paper deals with behavior of the magnetic abrasive using Ba-Ferrite on polishing characteristics in a new internal finishing of STS304 pipe applying magnetic abrasive polishing. The magnetic abrasive using Ba-Ferrite grain WA used to resin bond fabricated low temperature. And Ba-Ferrite of magnetic abrasive powder fabricated that Ba-Ferrite was crused into 200 mesh. The previous research have made an experiment in the static state the movement of magnetic abrasive grain is nevertheless in the dynamic state. In this paper, We could have investigated into the changes of the movement of magnetic abrasive grain. In reference to this result, we could have made the experiment which is set under the condition of the magnetic flux density, polishing velocity according to the form of magnetic brush.
