  • 무선 통신망은 유선 통신망에 비하여 대역이 한정적이기 때문에 효율적인 대역의 이용은 매우 중요하다. 그러나 802.16 BWA 시스템의 UGS 알고리즘은 보낼 데이터가 없어도 일정한 간격으로 고정 대역을 단말에 계속 할당하기 때문에 대역의 낭비가 심하다. 본 논문에서는 VAd가 가능한 단말에서 UGS 알고리즘을 이용할 때, 보낼 패킷이 없는 경우에는 그 유휴 대역을 이용하여 우선순위가 낮은 nrtPS나, BE 알고리즘을 이용하는 패킷을 대신 전송하는 방법을 제시함으로써, 802.16 BWA 시스템에서 효율적인 상향링크 스케줄링을 구현한다.

  • The broadband wireless access industry, which provides high-tate network connections to stationary sites, has matured to the point at which it now has a standard for second-generation wireless metropolitan area networks. IEEE Standard 802.16, with its WirelessMAN air interface, set the stage for widespread and effective deployments worldwide. This paper presents an implementation of media access control that can be applied to BWA (Broadband Wireless Access) system. Medium access control (MAC) is a key issue in multi-access networks where a common channel is shared by many users. The designed MAC prototype roughly consists of MAC Hardware and MAC Software. The MAC Hardware part includes timing process, MAC transmission control, MAC reception control, and CRC/HCS process. The MAC Software part includes control of MAC signaling, network interface, and Physical (PHY) control. The designed MAC protocol will be integrated with the PHY of BWA in future and we can test overall system performance of MAC and PHY.

  • Request about fast diffusion of internet and high-capacity multimedia service is increasing day after day. Because existent wireless LAN is short range, if subscriber is far away in base station transceiver system(Base Station), subscriber's quality of service becomes low, and wileless internet is expensive. Lately, WiBro(Wireless Broadband Internet) system that is developed in domestic by world first, is high-speed portable internet service that is situated in middle area of mobile phone and wireless LAN. In this paper, service traffic model and characteristics are analyzed to provide multimedia service based on IEEE 802.16 BWA accomplishes base of WiBro and simulation is conducted according to various traffic mixing ratio. Finally, on the basis of these simulation results, maximum allowable number of subscriber per cell is calculated.

Performance evaluation of BWA protocol according to uplink frame size and contention slot (상향링크의 프레임 크기와 경쟁슬롯에 따른 BWA 프로토콜의 성능평가)

  • DOCSIS and IEEE 802.16 define the usage and element of a MAP which is uplink control message. Standards does not include the details of MAP size and the number of contention slots affecting the performance of MAC protocols for DOCSIS and IEEE 802.16. In this paper, we analyzed the performance of throughput and access delay according to the MAP size and contention slot size. Based on the analytical results, we found the optimal MAP size and the number of contention slots. We found that the protocol shows best performance when the MAP size is 2msec and the number of contention slots is 8. The simulation results can apply to the network system parameters. The simulator can be used to optimize the system parameters in cable network, BWA and WiBro.

  • The range of hardware implementation increases in communication systems as high-speed processing is required for high data rate. In the broadband wireless access (BWA) system based on IEEE standard 802.16 the functions of higher part in the MAC layer to Provide data needed for generating MAC PDU are implemented in software, and the tasks from formatting MAC PDUs by using those data to transmitting the messages in a modem are implemented in hardware. In this paper, the interface hardware for efficient message exchange between MAC and PHY layers in the BWA system is designed. The hardware performs the following functions including those of the transmission convergence(TC) sublayer; (1) formatting TC PDU(Protocol data unit) from/to MAC PDU, (2) Reed-solomon(RS) encoding/decoding, and (3) resolving DL MAP and UL MAP, so that it controls transmission slot and uplink and downlink traffic according to the modulation scheme of burst profile. Also, it provides various control signal for PHY modem. In addition, the truncated binary exponential backoff (TBEB) algorithm is implemented in a subscriber station to avoid collision on contention-based transmission of messages. The VLSI architecture performing all these functions is implemented and verified in VHDL.

Preamble Detector and Synchronization in the TDD mode for BWA System

  • On the TDD system, the uplink and downlink transmission share the same frequency but are seperated in time. In this paper we just consider the uplink transmission. The BWA system in this paper should be accepted the adaptive modulation. Each uplink burst shall begin with an uplink preamble. The reception of an uplink burst is the most challenging from a synchronization perspective. The burst detection, power estimation, symbol synchronization and carrier synchronization should be obtained from the preamble. It will be shown in this paper, how can get a burst detection by preambles and extract the synchronization parameter from preamble.

  • In this paper, a dynamic contention periods based on the collision group(DCCG) algorithm is proposed for collision resolution in the IEEE 802.16 broadband wireless access network. The DCCG algorithm determines the contention periods according to the a number of collided slot and collided requests to the base station(BS). The DCCG algorithm is useful to improve the performance of throughput and system delay characteristic than binary backoff algorithm.

  • IEEE 802.16 WirelessMAN aiming to broadband wireless access (BWA) is evolving to 4G mobile communication system through the standardization of IEEE 802.16e supporting mobility on existing fixed WirelessMAN system. It is necessary for hand-over to provide seamless data service while MS (Mobile Station) moves to another BS (Base Station). Because the performance of handover affects packet loss or delay of any communications, it must consider low latency handover mechanism in packet based network. In this paper, we describes handover scheme of IEEE 802.16e with the cell edge interference problem and shows the way to solve the problem in frequency reuse one deployment. Our scheme reduces the handover latency and packet loss probability.

  • Fast 핸드오버는 단말이 기지국 간의 연결을 바꾸는 동안에 발생 하는 서비스 중단 시간을 줄이기 위해서 소개 되었다. 그러나, 새로운 Care of Address (CoA) 의 검증으로 인한 핸드오버 지연이나, 경로 최적화의 지연은 문제가 될 수 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 향상된 Fast 핸드오버 방식을 소개 한다. 본 방식에서 단말은 이전 기지국과 연결 되어 있는 동안에 경로 최적화를 수행 하며, 새로운 CoA 의 검증을 필요로 하지 않는다.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the DRMA(Dynamic Reservation Multiple Access) protocol with Rayleigh fading, shadowing, and capture effect for the Broadband fireless Access System. We consider the TDMA-based protocols, since these are based on the standard for IEEE 802.16 WMAN, IEEE 802.20 MBWA, and ETSI HIPERLAN//2. The results of analytical model will be apply the development of collision resolution algorithm, scheduling algorithm and the dynamic change of system parameters.
