  • The world is constantly endeavoring to reduce global $CO_2$ emissions by international agreements. However, in general, the public cannot be fully understood and it is difficult to know how to implement sustainable development. The purpose of the study is to explore the concept of Eco-School and to investigate the eco-friendly education program in order to prepare an environmental school design guidelines. In addition, an analysis of the UK's Green Certification Program(BREEAM) explores the sustainability of the educational environment and how it achieve the built environment. Furthermore, this study suggests ways to increase sustainability in education and design field. First, through the literature review, recent trends of eco-friendly school design will be analyzed and the concept with characteristics of Eco-School system should be examined. Second, the evaluation factors and application methods of BREEAM will be explored, and the correlation between Eco-School and BREEAM evaluation items by sustainable development goals of United Nations Development Program(UNDP) will be considered. Through the analysis of the BREEAM schools which are constructed in England based on the BREEAM New Construction 2018, design characteristics and methods of eco-friendly schools will be researched so this study suggest practical ways to contribute design guideline which enables to create the specific policy and design improvement of eco-friendly schools in Korea.

  • The main purpose of the green buildings by reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint of the building society, global as to ensure the sustainability of the building and the environment. These regulations and schemes are used to activate the green buildings were made on the basis of the relevant laws and regulations. Mainly in the research for the improvement of the domestic institutional assessment items, the analysis of the legislation was fundamentally focused on Scoring the incomplete state. The analysis based on the laws and regulations of the institution is the way to know the purpose and direction of the respective certification. This study was performed in the following order to target the new commercial buildings. First, the analysis of the geungeobeop G-SEED and BREEAM. Second, we analyze the content and method of building energy performance in the certification system. As a result, Green Building Act is broad in relation to the composition of the contents are building for the activation energy green building and EPI is dealt with in an abstract and presented the applicability of such documentary content of insulation and airtightness, efficient machine. In contrast, the UK has been directly limit the carbon footprint of buildings in the Building Regulations Part L and evaluate them in BREEAM. This analysis of the ways to reduce substantially the energy for domestic green building regulations should be addressed through the feed.

  • The improvements of G-SEED standards was studies in this research by comparing the composition, rating scores, and standards, including categories, issues and criteria of BREEAM in the UK. In this research, it was found that both certification systems had very similar composition and rating system, however, there was slight difference in the points of emphasizing the standards due to the differences in social awareness of green buildings in each country. As a result of the detailed comparison of both standards, in addition, it was found that almost half of criteria had different evaluation approaches such as evaluation methods and scopes between both standards even though they had same evaluation objectives; some of the differences were due to the social or cultural differences between the countries, and the others were not. Through the research, we were able to derive some criteria that need for improvements of G-SEED considering the domestic conditions in Korea.

  • Green roof in Korea has been recognized as part of landscape area and local governments enacted municipal ordinance for supporting green roof thereby assisting part of expenses spent for green roof within a range of budget for buildings which are eligible for the green roof support of existing buildings. However, it is necessary to enforce a regulation of mandatory green roof for new buildings in order to expand green roof application and provide a variety of assistances such as subsidy payment, tax relief, and mitigation of floor area ratio-related regulation as done in other advanced nations. In particular, LEED(Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design) in the USA applies additional point directly for green roof in terms of the reduction in heat island effects. For example, the following items are beneficial to have additional points: habitat preservation or restoration, external space, rainwater management, reduction in outdoor water usage, minimum energy performance, and optimum energy performance. In addition, the BREEAM(Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) in the UK specifies green roof as one of assessment items to be complied in terms of diversity of species. As such, LEED and BREEAM reflect direct and indirect effects of green roof on assessment criteria, which suggest a direction to green building certification criteria in Korea where only additional points are given for green roof according to soil depth.

  • Purpose: As the concerns for the environment are gradually prioritized, increasing interests of environment-friendly buildings are drawn. The Green Standard for Energy & Environmental Design (G-SEED) has been strengthened. However, there are no specific assessment criteria that reflect the special situation of healthcare facility. UK, US and Japan have green building certifications specially designed to evaluate sustainable healthcare facilities. This study has been started in order to provide basic information for developing assessment criteria for healthcare facilities in Korean Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design. Methods: In this study, we investigated three foreign green building certifications and compared their assessment system and criteria for healthcare buildings. Results: Each of the three foreign certification standards showed the difference in the system, but all contained the contents specific to healthcare facilities. Evaluation items were affected by regional cultural environment and also medical environment. Patient safety and integrative planning were the most important assessment contents. Implications: Based on this analysis, Korean Green Standard for Energy & Environmental Design for healthcare facilities will be developed.

  • The goal of this study is to compare the evaluation results of indoor daylight environment for each certification and propose improvement points. As the importance of indoor daylight environment has increased, foreign countries have been aware of this and have changed the light environmental certification items. On the other hand, Korea environmental certification systems have not been able to follow the current situation. In order to improve this, this study intended to find evaluation criteria for each category by comparing and analyzing indoor daylight environment certification items in Korea's G-SEED, LEED in the United States, BREEAM in the UK, and CASBEE in Japan. After that, this study simulated 3D models of three spaces about classroom, reading room and club room of Yanghyun elementary School which is scheduled to be constructed for the evaluation of indoor daylight environment, and the results were analyzed to suggest for improvement.

  • Many countries have carried out various policies about sustainable building to protect the earth against the global warming and environmental pollution. Korea government has also executed the Green Building Certification System. In order to keep the performances of certificated buildings sustainable, the effective building maintenance is quite necessary. Meanwhile, the foreign green building certification systems have considered the building maintenance as one of the most important items to keep the building performance effective. However, Green Building Certification Criteria(GBCC) of Korea has not had the sufficient criteria for the maintenance of green building. Therefore, The purpose of this study is to find direction for the improvement of management categories of Korea Green Building Certification Criteria. For this aim, GBCC was compared with the foreign certification systems such as LEED, BREEAM and CASBEE.

  • Purpose: G-SEED's evaluation of existing buildings in Korea is an important point because the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of existing buildings are continuously increasing due to the aging of buildings over time. In 2016, the government has set up a 'Green Remodeling Certification Standard' in G-SEED in order to revitalize the green remodeling business of existing buildings. As a result, G-SEED is distinguished between buildings with green remodeling and buildings with general remodeling. Therefore, this study analyzed the system of the certification of the green remodeling building which is aimed at improving the performance of the building. Method: First, we analyze characteristics of the existing building certification standards of G-SEED(Korea), LEED(USA), and BREEAM(UK). Second, the evaluation criteria are based on the G-SEED Green Remodeling Certification, 2016, LEED for BD + C: New construction and major renovation v.4, BREEAM UK Non-Domestic Refurbishment and Fit-out 2014. Based on the analysis results, we propose the improvement direction of G-SEED Green Remodeling Certification Standard. Result: Existing buildings should be classified into 'existing building certification' for re-certification and 'green remodeling certification' accompanied by building performance improvement. In addition, building green buildings through performance improvement should include not only energy performance, but also creating a pleasant indoor environment and minimizing environmental impact. Finally, existing buildings have accumulated information on energy and resource use, and a performance improvement plan should be established based on this information.
