  • A robust asset management methodology is essential for effective decision-making of maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of a bridge network. It can be achieved by a computer-based bridge management system (BMS). Successful BMS development requires a reliable bridge deterioration model, which is the most crucial component in a BMS, and an optimal management philosophy. The maintenance optimization methodology proposed in this paper is developed for a small bridge network with limited structural condition rating records. . The methodology is organized in three major components: (1) bridge health index (BHI); (2) maintenance and budget optimization; and (3) reliable Artificial Intelligence (AI) based bridge deterioration model. The outcomes of the paper will help to identify BMS implementation problems and to provide appropriate solutions for managing small bridge networks.

Linkage Mapping and QTL on Chromosome 6 in Hanwoo (Korean Cattle)

  • The QTL(quantitative traits loci) linkage mapping of Hanwoo (Korean Cattle) chromosome 6 for daily gain and marbling score was performed using 378 individuals from 18 paternal half-sib families in Hanwoo. Hanwoo chromosome 6 were mapped to total length of 394.2 cM between 28 microsatellite loci using 36 microsatellite primers of BTA 6 linkage group. The QTL analysis for daily gain in Hanwoo showed 8 microsatellite loci (BM3026-5.66, EL03-5.58, BM4311-5.29, ILSTS035-4.50, BMS1242-4.37, BM1329-3.67, BM415-3.11, BMS2460-3.03) in larger than LOD score 3.0. Based on the QTL analysis for marbling score, LOD scores of 12 microsatellite loci (BM415-8.88, BM3026-7.15, ILSTS093-5.45, ILSTS035-4.91, EL03-4.69, BMS690-4.52, BM1329-4.43, BMS511-3.74, BMS1242-3.66, BMS518-3.65, BM4311-3.41, BMC4203-3.36) were found larger than 3.0.

  • Tactical Multiband Multirole radio(TMMR) has been developed and under some official testings now. Our army wants TMMR to be installed in Ground Fighting Vehicles(GFVs) and be incorporated with their Battlefield Management System(BMS). Also, BMS with TMMR should communicate with BMS on FM radio which is currently under use in most of GFVs. To achieve such goals, some significant changes should be made into the present BMS and in this paper, several considerations will be presented in the both sides of hardware and software point of view.

Dapsone modulates lipopolysaccharide-activated bone marrow cells by inducing cell death and down-regulating tumor necrosis factor-α production

  • Dapsone, an antibiotic, has been used to cure leprosy. It has been reported that dapsone has anti-inflammatory activity in hosts; however, the anti-inflammatory mechanism of dapsone has not been fully elucidated. The present study investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of dapsone on bone marrow cells (BMs), especially upon exposure to lipopolysaccharide (LPS). We treated BMs with LPS and dapsone, and the treated cells underwent cellular activity assay, flow cytometry analysis, cytokine production assessment, and reactive oxygen species assay. LPS distinctly activated BMs with several characteristics including high cellular activity, granulocyte changes, and tumor necrosis factor alpha ($TNF-{\alpha}$) production increases. Interestingly, dapsone modulated the inflammatory cells, including granulocytes in LPS-treated BMs, by inducing cell death. While the percentage of Gr-1 positive cells was 57% in control cells, LPS increased that to 75%, and LPS plus dapsone decreased it to 64%. Furthermore, dapsone decreased the mitochondrial membrane potential of LPS-treated BMs. At a low concentration ($25{\mu}g/mL$), dapsone significantly decreased the production of $TNF-{\alpha}$ in LPS-treated BMs by 54%. This study confirmed that dapsone has anti-inflammatory effects on LPS-mediated inflammation via modulation of the number and function of inflammatory cells, providing new and useful information for clinicians and researchers.

정시성 확보를 위한 버스노선 당 적정 운행시간 산정 연구 (Study on the Optimum Route Travel Time for Bus to Improve Bus Schedule Reliability)

  • 정부의 대중교통활성화 정책과 이용자들의 승용차에서 버스나 지하철로의 수단 전환으로, 대중교통의 정확한 배차시간과 도착시간의 확보가 중요해졌다. 서울시에서 제공하는 버스운행관리시스템(BMS : Bus Management System) 자료를 이용하여, 실시간 버스위치, 배차간격, 운행이력 등의 정보를 알 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 BMS 자료를 이용하여 안전운행을 하면서 정시성도 확보할 수 있는 방안을 제안하고자 한다. 다른 연구와는 다르게, 버스 정류장 사이 구간을 5개의 지점과 6개의 시간으로 나누어, 각각의 시간을 BMS 자료를 이용하여 산정하였다. 또한, 각 시간에 영향을 주는 주된 원인을 살펴보고, 요소별 평균, 표준편차, 변동계수를 이용하여 정류장 별 정시성과 안전성, 이동성을 모두 확보한 버스 노선의 적정 운행시간을 제안하였다.

  • 최근 선박/해양설치선의 운항 과정에서 오염물질과 온실가스 배출을 최소화하기 위한 전기추진개발이 진행되고 있다. 이에 필요한 선박/해양설치선 내 ESS 시스템인 배터리의 사용과 효율적 관리에 대한 중요성이 높아지고 있다. 통상적으로 Battery가 적용된 ESS는 BMS에 의해 Cell Balancing 및 수명이 실시간 모니터링이 되고 있다. 선박/해양설치선에는 여러 개소의 ESS Room을 탑재하고 있으며, 최근 전기추진개발 수요로 동일 사양의 ESS 시스템이 적용된 ESS Room이 구성되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 각 Room의 BMS Data를 비교하여 Battery Pack 및 Cell Balancing의 고장을 추가적으로 예측 진단하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안한 알고리즘은 선박/해양설치선의 환경변화에 따른 각 ESS Room의 BMS Data를 비교하여 정확한 상태정보를 측정하고 신뢰성있게 모니터링하여 대형사고를 미연에 방지할 수 있다.

Effects of Genetic and Environmental Factors on Ultrasonic Estimates of Carcass Traits of Japanese Brown Cows

  • A study was made of the effects of genetic and environmental factors on ultrasonic estimates of carcass traits of Japanese Brown cows. The M. longissimus thoracis area (MLTA), Subcutaneous (SFT) and Inter Muscular (IMFT) Fat Thickness, Rib Thickness (RT) and Beef Marbling Score (BMS) were scanned at the $7^th$ rib by ultrasound. Significant differences between sires, raising place, birth year and season were found for all traits. The heritabilities estimates for sire or Maternal Grand Sire (MGS) on ultrasonic estimates of carcass traits ranged from 0.05~0.14. Genetic and phenotypic correlations among the ultrasonic estimates were positive (0.13~0.88 and 0.24~0.75). Raising place effects were significant for all traits and the differences were between $30.8{\sim}33.5cm^2$ for MLTA and 0.46~0.67 for BMS. Cows born in 1988 tended to have high MLTA, SFT, IMFT and RT but low BMS. Cows born in spring tended to have high MLTA. Cows born in winter or autumn tended to have high BMS. The interaction effects of birth year with birth season were significant for both. MLTA and BMS.

  • 도시교통혼잡과 통행속도감소로 버스의 분담률은 지속적으로 감소 추세를 보이고 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서 각 지방자치단체는 버스운행관리시스템(BMS) 또는 버스운행정보시스템(BIS)을 구축하고 있다. 대중교통 우선정책을 시행함에 있어 사업의 전. 후 분석을 통해 효과를 검증하고 평가하는 것은 향후 효율적인 대중교통정책을 수립하는데 있어 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 현재 운영중인 BMS의 자료를 기초로 사전 사후조사를 실시하여 사업을 분석, 평가하였다. 연구 결과가 향후 버스운행관리시스템 도입시 정책결정에 있어 참고자료로 활용될 것을 기대한다.

  • Bimodal Tram developed by KRRI is driven by a series Hybrid propulsion system which has both the CNG engine, generator and LPB(Lithium Polymer Battery) pack. It has three driving modes; Hybrid mode, Engine mode and Battery mode. Even in case of Battery mode, LPB pack to get enough power to drive the vehicle only by itself onsists of 168 LPB cells(80Ah per lcell), 650V. It is important thing to manage LPB pack in a right way, which will extend the lifetime of LPB cells and operate in the hybrid mode effectively. This paper has shown the development of battery management system(12 BMS, 1 BMS per 14cells) to manage LPB pack which is connected with CAN(Controller Area Network) each other and measure the voltage, current, temperature and also control the cooling fan inside of LPB pack. Using the measured data, BMS can show the SOC(State of Charge), SOH(State of Health) and other status of LPB pack including of the cell balancing.

계층적 배터리 관리 시스템 시뮬레이션 기술 개발 (Development of Simulator for Hierarchical Battery Management System)

  • In this research, we report on the development of simulation system for performance verification of BMS(Battery Management System) which is utilized in electric vehicles. In the industrial circles, a manufacturer of BMS typically tests their system with real battery packs. However, it takes a long time to test all functions of BMS. Here, we develop BMU(Battery Managament Unit) as an embedded board, which will be installed in electric vehicle for controlling battery packs. All other environment factors for testing BMU are developed in softwares in order to reduce the term of test. Especially, the proposed system consists of cell simulator and CMU(Cell Management Unit) simulator which simulate real battery cells and control battery cells. These simulators enable the BMU to test more battery cells. In addition, proposed system provides diagnosis program in order to diagnose and monitor the condition of BMS which makes the test of BMS more easily. In order to verify the performance of the developed simulator, we have performed the experiment with real battery packs and our simulator. Through comparing two results of experiments, we verify that developed simulator shows better performance in terms of less amount of testing duration though having high reliability.
