The switching noise in the power electronics of the power conversion equipment (Power Conditioning System) for large energy storage devices are generated. Since the burst-level transient noise from being generated in the power system at a higher power change process influences the control circuit of the low voltage driver circuit. Noise may cause the malfunction of the control device even if no dielectric breakdown leads to a control circuit. To overcome this, this paper proposes the installation of an additional nano-surge protection device on the power supply DC output circuit of the battery management unit.
Lithium-ion batteries used for IT, automobiles, and industrial energy-storage devices have battery management systems (BMS) to protect the battery from abnormal voltage, current, and temperature environments, as well as safety devices like, current interruption device (CID), fuse, and vent to obtain positive temperature coefficient (PTC). Nonetheless, there are harmful to human health and property and damage the brand image of the manufacturer because of smoke, fire, and explosion of lithium battery packs. In this paper, we propose a systematic protection algorithm combining battery temperature, over-current, and interconnection between protection elements to prevent copper deposition, internal short circuit, and separator shrinkage due to frequent and instantaneous over-current discharges. The parameters of the proposed algorithm are suggested to utilize the experimental data in consideration of battery pack operating conditions and malicious conditions.
High-power lithium batteries are suitable for equipment with high power output needs, such as for ESS's initial start-up. However, their management cost is increased by the installation of air-conditioning to minimize the risk of explosion due to internal temperature rise and also by a restriction on the number of charge/discharge cycles. High-capacity flow batteries, on the other hand, have many advantages. They can be used for over 20 years due to their low management costs, resulting from no risk of explosion and a high number of charge/discharge cycles. In this paper, we propose an ESS based on hybrid batteries that uses a lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO) at the initial startup and a vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) from the end of the transient period, with a bi-directional PCS to operate two batteries with different DC voltage levels and using an efficient energy management control algorithm.
The purpose of this paper is to conduct ETA on six items of ESS: the whole system, battery, BMS, PCS, ESS and cable. To achieve that, ESS work flow and its components are categorized. Based on performance, human, environmental, management, and safety, this paper drew initiation events (IE) and end states (ES). ETA is applied to the main functions of each item, and the end states that may occur in one initiation event are suggested. In addition, detailed classification was performed to induce various end states on the basis of the suggested initiation events ; loss of grid electricity of ESS, loss of battery electricity(DC) of battery, impairment of electric function of BMS, loss of grid electricity(AC) of PCS, loss of data of EMS, Mechanical damage of cable, event sequence analysis conducted on the basis of event trees. If the suggested IEs and ESs are applied on the basis of ESS event cases, it is expected to prevent the same kinds of accident and operate ESS safely.

This paper has shown the design process of LPB pack and application to the vehicle. Driving results in the road was successful to be satisfied with the requirement of the series hybrid vehicle.
본 논문에서는 모바일 정보기기의 배터리 전력 관리를 제어하는 IBS(Intelligent Battery sensor), BMS(Battery Management System) 등의 PMIC(Power Management IC) 기술에 적합한 9b 2MHz 사이클릭 폴딩 ADC(Analog-to-Digital Converter)를 제안한다.
This study examines the system and process of battery stored energy in vehicles and suggest the effective area for the use of V2G(vehicle-to-grid) from Jeju Smart Grid Demonstration Project. V2G means technology of electric power transmission from the battery of electric-drive vehicles to state grid. As for the increasing of effectiveness for demand-side control, V2G is a very good alternative. In the U.S., the utilization of electric vehicles is under 40% on average. In this case, we can use he battery of electric vehicle as role of frequency regulation or generator of demand-side resource. V2G, which is the element of Smart Transportation, consists of electric vehicle battery, BMS(battery management system), OBC(on-board charger), charging infrastructure, NOC(network operating center) and TOC(total operation center). V2G application has been tested for frequency regulation to secure the economical efficiency in the United States. In this case, the battery cycle life is not verified its disadvantage. On the other hand, Demand Response is required by low c-rate of battery in electric vehicle and It can be small impact on the battery cycle life. This paper concludes business area of demand response is more useful than frequency regulation in V2G application of electric vehicles in Korea. This provides the opportunity to create a new business for power grid administrator with VPP(virtual power plant).
A model based SOC estimation scheme using parameter identification is described and applied to a Lithium-ion battery module that can be installed in electric vehicles. Simulation studies are performed to verify the effect of sensor faults on the SOC estimation results for terminal voltage sensor and load current sensor. The sensor faults should be detected and isolated as soon as possible because the SOC estimation error due to any sensor fault seriously affects the overall performance of the BMS. A new fault detection and isolation(FDI) scheme by which the fault of terminal voltage sensor and load current sensor can be detected and isolated is proposed to improve the reliability of the BMS. The proposed FDI scheme utilizes the parameter estimation of an input-output model and two fuzzy predictors for residual generation; one for terminal voltage and the other for load current. Recently developed dual polarization(DP) model is taken to develope and evaluate the performance of the proposed FDI scheme. Simulation results show the practical feasibility of the proposed FDI scheme.
