For copyright protection of digital contents, we employ watermarking techniques to embed watermark signals into digital host data. In this paper we propose an adaptive watermarking algorithm for three-dimensional (3-D) mesh models. Watermark signals are inserted into vertex coordinates adaptively according to changes of their position values. While we embed strong watermarks in the areas of large variations, watermarks are weakly inserted in other areas. After we generate triangle strips by traversing the 3-D model and convert the Cartesian coordinates to the spherical coordinate system, we calculate variations of vertex positions along the traversed strips. Then, we insert watermark signals into the vertex coordinates adaptively according to the calculated variations. We demonstrate that imperceptibility of the inserted watermark is significantly improved and show the bit error rate (BER) for robustness.

The new channel model for high data rate common data link(CDL) is proposed. The Two-ray channel, which is composed of the reflected signals on the front ground of the receiver, is considered in this paper. This channel arises due to the curvature of the earth when the altitude of the transmitter is tens of kilometers and distance between the transmitter and the receiver is hundreds of kilometers. The Two-ray channel is modeled by estimating the maximum delay profile and the power delay profile, depending on the transmitting and receiving beamforming angle and the radiation pattern of antenna. The power delay profile has a larger effect on the bit error rate(BER) over signal to noise ratio(SNR) than the maximum delay profile, because the distance range is too long in the proposed channel model.

This paper shows the performance of a multiuser detection DS-CDMA receiver based on of the hybrid scheme of parallel interference cancellation (PIC) and successive interference cancellation (SIC). The proposed hybrid interference cancellation is presented and is compared with existing PIC, SIC and Hybrid It of other type schemes. The performance criteria used for comparison are complexity, delay and average bit error rate (BER) performance obtained by simulation in Rayleigh-fading channel (Jake's model) with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). In the proposed hybrid IC, the BER performance approximates the one of SIC and the delay is half of the SIC. And the number of cancellation of the hybrid It is reduced about a fourth.

This paper describes and analyzes the performance of MB-OFDM UWB system that is suggested as one of standards in IEEE 802.15 TG3a for UWB application. UMBchannel model that has been contributed in IEEE 802.15 SG3a is a wideband channel model of 6Ghz bandwidth, so we modify it to have 3 subband channels that are obtained by filtering conventional U Channel, considering center frequency hopping and system bandwidth. From simulations, we compare performances of MB-OFDM system in AWGN and WB channel and verify the frequency and time domain diversity gains from time End frequency spreading technique. We also compare and analyze the performance of proposed SFBC MB-OFDM with that of conventional MB-OFDM system. Simulation results show SFBC MB-OFDM system outperforms conventional MB-OFDM system about 1.5dB of Eb/No at target BER of 10$^{-m4}$./.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is an attractive technique for achieving high-bit-rate wireless data transmission. However, multicarrier systems such as OFDM show great sensitivity to nonlinear distortion. The OFDM structure requires a summation of a large number of subcarriers for multicarrier modulation, and as a result of this summation large signal envelope fluctuations occur. These fluctuations make OFDM systems to be very sensitive to nonlinear distortion introduced by the high power amplifier (HPA) at the transmitter. In this paper, we propose a canonical piecewise-linear (CPWL) model based digital predistorter to compensate for nonlinear distortion introduced by the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) and the HPA in OFDM systems. The performance of the new predistortion scheme for OFDM systems is evaluated in terms of total degradation (TD) and bit error rate (BER). The simulation results demonstrated that the proposed predistorter achieves significant performance improvement by effectively compensating for the nonlinear distortion introduced by the HPA.

Recent complex battle field demands Network Centric Warfare(NCW) ability to control various parts into a cohesive unit. In path planning filed, the NCW ability increases complexity of path planning algorithm, and it has to consider a communication coverage map as well as traditional parameters such as minimum radar exposure and survivability. In this paper, pros and cons of various propagation models are summarized, and we suggest a coverage map generation method using a Longley-Rice propagation model. Previous coverage map based on line of sight has significant discontinuities that limits selection of path planning algorithms such as Dijkstra and fast marching only. If there is method to remove discontinuities in the coverage map, optimization based path planning algorithms such as trajectory optimization and Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) can also be used. In this paper, the Longley-Rice propagation model is used to calculate continuous RF strengths, and convert the strength data using smoothed leaky BER for the coverage map. In addition, we also suggest other types of rough coverage map generation using a lookup table method with simple inputs such as terrain type and antenna heights only. The implemented communication coverage map can be used various path planning algorithms, especially in the optimization based algorithms.

2-D OCDMA is considered to be a viable technical solution for optical LANs, and a considerable amount of research effort has been devoted to various 2-D OCDMA techniques. In this paper, we propose two new interference model for 2-D OCDMA LANs employing unipolar random codes, and derive maximum-likelihood detectors based on these interference models. The BER performance of the maximum likelihood detectors and that of other existing detectors are compared through extensive computer simulation. In addition, the complexity of high-speed implementation of the detectors is assessed, and as a result, we found that the AND detector and the maximum-likelihood detectors for the pulse-binomial and the pulse-Poisson model offer the best trade-off between the BER performance and the facility of high-speed implementation.
As wireless mobile networks have been widely adopted due to their convenience for deployment, the research for improving their performance has been actively conducted. Since their throughput is restrained by the packet corruption rate not by congestion as in wired networks, however, network simulations for performance evaluation need to select the appropriate wireless channel model representing the behavior of propagation errors for the evaluated channel. The selection of the right model should depend on various factors such as the adopted frequency band, the level of signal power, the existence of obstacles against signal propagation, the sensitivity of protocols to bit errors, and etc. This paper analyzes 10-day bit traces collected from real sensor channels exhibiting the high bit error rate to determine a suitable sensor channel model. For selection, it also evaluates the performance of two error recovery algorithms such as a link layer FEC algorithm and three TCPs (Tahoe, Reno, and Vegas) over several channel models. The comparison analysis shows that CM(Chaotic Map) model predicts 3-time less BER variance and 10-time larger PER(Packet Error Rate) than traces while these differences between the other models and traces are larger than 10-time. The simulation experiments, furthermore, prove that CM model evaluates the performance of these algorithms over sensor channels with the precision at least 10-time more accurate than any other models.
Han's model, which is able to analyze optical communication between earth station and geo-satellite as a function of atmospheric conditions and elevation angles. is presented. In Han's model, atmospheric conditions are roughly classified into six basic types; clear sky, cloud, haze, fog, rain and snow. Data rate satisfying for the BER below $10^{-7}$ is analyzed by Han's model in case of up-link and down-link, respectively. Data rate is more limited by up-link than by down-link because the pointing loss caused by atmosphere on the up-link is greater than the spatial coherence degradation caused by atmosphere on the down-link.

In this work, a novel optimal multiuser detection (MUD) approach, which not only achieves the optimal maximum-likelihood (ML)-like performance but also has reasonably low computational complexity, for Space-time coded OFDM (ST-OFDM) systems is presented. In the proposed detection scheme, the signal model is firstly re-expressed into linearly equivalent one. Then, with the linearly equivalent signal model, a new jointly MUD algorithm is proposed to detect signals. The ML-like bit-error-rate (BER) performance and reasonably low complexity of the proposed detection are verified by computer simulations.
