  • Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenolmethoxyphenyltrizine (BEMT) is one of the most widely used chemical UVA+UVB double absorbers in sunscreen products. But topical application of BEMT is restricted due to its defects in product. The purpose of this study is to adopt the sunscreen product of solid lipid nano-particles containing BEMT (BEMT-SLN). The particle diameters, the encapsulation efficiencies and the crystallization index (C.I.) are about 330nm, 93.3 % and the 4.3 %. As a result, in vitro penetration and release of BEMT were generally higher in O/W emulsion than the SLN formulation. However in vivo study, it was shown that the rate of release could be decreased by 80 % in the SLN formulation. The sun protection factor (SPF) of the SLN formulation increased by 100 % in the in vitro UV protection test. Therefore, SLN formulation potentiated the UV-blocking power of BEMT. This study suggest that SLN can be used for the encapsulation of BEMT.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a software for the performance evaluation and blade design of a pitch-controlled HAWT using BEMT(Blade Element Momentum Theory) with Prandtl's tip loss. The HERACLES V2.0 software consist of three major part ; basic blade design, aerodynamic coefficient mapping and performance calculation including stall or pitch control option. A 1MW wind turbine blade was designed at the rated wind speed(12m/s) composing five different airfoils such as FFA-W-301, DU91-W250, DU93-W-210, NACA 63418 and NACA 63415 from hub to tip. The mechanical power predicted by BEMT at the rated wind speed is about 1.27MW. Also, CFD analysis was performed to confirm the validity of the BEMT results. The comparison results show good agreement about the error of 6.5% in rated mechanical power.

  • The optimum design and the performance analysis software called POSEIDON for the HAWT (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) was developed by use of BEMT. The Prandtl's tip loss theory was adopted to consider the blade tip loss. The lift and the drag coefficient of S-809 airfoil were predicted via X-FOIL and also the post stall characteristics of S-809 were estimated by the Viterna's equations. All the predicted aerodynamic characteristics are fairly well agreed with the wind tunnel test results, performed by Sommers in Delft university of technology. The rated power of the testing rotor is 20kW(FIL-20) at design conditions. The experimental aerodynamic parameters and the X-FOIL data were used for the power prediction of the FIL-20 respectively. The comparison results shows good agreement in power prediction.

  • In this study, we have established the design techniques, with which we can design and evaluate performance of blades on a horizontal axis current turbine, by application of blade element momentum theory considering the blade tip's loss model, and finally developed the domestic software(MCT-blade V2.0). We have designed and evaluated performance of blades for the 2MW class by using of the software, and confirmed its calculation results from BEMT by comparing those results from commercial code of ANSYS FLUENT. In a state of rated velocity 2.5m/s, the mechanical power from BEMT is calculated as 2,121kW, which is considered to satisfy the electrical power, but the value from CFD is calculated as 1,901kW, which is considered a little deficient for the target output.

  • This paper aims to predict the aerodynamic characteristics of individual rotor for the gust and flight conditions. Transformation procedure into the wind frame is conducted to analyze the gust. Hover, forward, and climb flight conditions of an individual rotor are analyzed using the blade element momentum theory (BEMT) considering the rigid blade flapping motion. XFOIL is used to derive aerodynamic results. Validation for hover, forward flight, and climb conditions are conducted using the present BEMT. In addition, a static experimental environment is constructed. The experimental results and the present BEMT are compared and verified.
