  • Blood tests have been used to develop treatment plans, such as disease diagnosis, treatment effect, and prognosis determination in livestock. The present study examined changes in the blood count, including RBCs, WBCs, and platelets, before and after grazing among the Korean native cattle grazing from spring to autumn. The study compared the blood count of livestock group (A, n=34) that returned from the rangeland to cowshed every evening and livestock group (B, n=21) that were not returned from the rangeland to cowshed every evening during the grazing period. Hematological parameters such as RBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, and WBC, neutrophil, eosinophil, monocyte, and lymphocyte were determined using a blood cell analyzer. Livestock group (A) showed significant differences in the values of RBC, MCV, MCHC, WBC, EOS, and LYM. Livestock group (B) showed significant differences in the values of RBC, Hb, HCT, MCV, MCH, PLT, NEU, and BAS. In particular, the RBC count decreased after grazing when compared with that before grazing. Compared with that before grazing, low RBC count was maintained from the first to fifth month of grazing. The WBC count increased from the fourth month of grazing, whereas the EOS count increased from the second month of grazing. These results suggest that the values of RBC and WBC vary before and after grazing, and also with the grazing period. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop a detailed feeding management based on these values of blood analysis for livestock that are raised continuously in the rangeland.

  • In order to make reliable earthquake-resistant design of civil engineering structures, one of the most important considerations in a region with high seismicity is to pay attention to the local soil condition of regions. It is aimed in the current study at specifying dynamic soil characteristics of Kirikkale city center conducting the 1-D equivalent linear and non-linear site response analyses. Due to high vulnerability and seismicity of the city center of Kirikkale surrounded by active many faults, such as the North Anatolian Fault (NAF), the city of Kirikkale is classified as highly earthquake-prone city. The first effort to determine critical site response parameter is to perform the seismic hazard analyses of the region through the earthquake record catalogues. The moment magnitude of the city center is obtained as $M_w=7.0$ according to the recorded probability of exceedance of 10% in the last 50 years. Using the data from site tests, the 1-D equivalent linear (EL) and nonlinear site response analyses (NL) are performed with respect to the shear modulus reduction and damping ratio models proposed in literature. The important engineering parameters of the amplification ratio, predominant site period, peak ground acceleration (PGA) and spectral acceleration values are predicted. Except for the periods between the period of T=0.2-1.0 s, the results from the NL are obtained to be similar to the EL results. Lower spectral acceleration values are estimated in the locations of the city where the higher amplification ratio is attained or vice-versa. Construction of high-rise buildings with modal periods higher than T=1.0 s are obtained to be suitable for the city of Kirikkale. The buildings at the city center are recommended to be assessed with street survey rapid structural evaluation methods so as to mitigate seismic damages. The obtained contour maps in this study are estimated to be effective for visually characterizing the city in terms of the considered parameters.

  • Lead bas been found in the groundwater in Door County, Wiscorsin, with temporally and spatially irregular distribution in concentration. Correlation coeffidents were calculated among lead indicators in groundwater(frequency of lead detections, mean and maximum concentration of lead detections) and seven independent variables(stucture and geographic factors of wells, hydrogeological factors at lead-arsenate mixing sites and the level of soil contamination) which are possibly related to the lead level in groundwater. The significance of relationships was determined statistically by a t-test at the 90% confidence level, and indicated that the spatially located lead-arsenate mixing sites provided the lead in groundwater in the study area. A total of 112 groundwater samples were collected from 5 house wells with previous lead detects. Lead was detected in partides on ifiter papers with $0.45{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$ pore size, but not in filtrates. The result of chemical analysis for lead indicates that lead is associated with partides in groundwater in Door County. Subsequently, the irregular distribution of lead in the county results from the transport of particulate lead along the advective groundwater movement through the preferential pathways sucn as vertical and bedding-plane joints.

  • A case study bas been conducted to explore design activities of four expert designers through protocol analysis, We examined relations among design information, process patterns and solution qualities with two complementary coding schemes based on design contents and design process, Relation between personal creativity modes and design activities has been examined as well. Regarding design process, an adequate distribution of activities in process may be necessary to bring out a good solution. It seemed that the more design contents about context, external knowledge, and general feature are used, the more unique design concepts are made. Regarding personal creativity modes, not much of differences in that design activity were observed while only a few relations between designer's personality and design activity were observed. The fact that the designers participated are all experienced designers could explain this. Investigation on the differences between novice designers and expert designer reflected in protocol data based on design information and design process coding scheme is to be done. Also, how personal process patterns observed through this protocol analysis can be utilized in composing design team.

  • In this paper, parasitic resonance modes generated in a conductor backed coplanar wave guide(CBCPW) and stripline band pass filter(BPF) and the oscillation phenomena of a 40 GHz power amplifier module(PAM) are analyzed and several methods to suppress them are presented for low-temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC) based millimeter-wave RF System-in-Package(SiP) applications. Parasitic rectangular wave guide(RWG) modes of the CBCPW structure are completely suppressed in the operation frequency band by decreasing the distance between its vias and by increasing the mode frequency. In the stripline structure, RWG resonance modes are clearly eliminated by removing some vias facing each other and by placing them diagonally. In the case of the 40 GHz PAM, in order to reduce a cross talk due to radiation that is generated from interconnection discontinuities, high isolation structures such as embedded DC bas lines and CPW signal lines are used and then the oscillated PAM is improved.

  • Since early 1950's fracture mechanics has brought significant impact on structural integrity assessment in a wide range of industries such as power, transportation, civil and petrochemical industries, especially in nuclear power plant industries. For the last two decades, significant efforts have been devoted in developing defect assessment procedures, from which various fitness-for-purpose or fitness-for-service codes have been developed. From another aspect, recent advances in IT (Information Technologies) bring rapid changes in various engineering fields. IT enables people to share information through network and thus provides concurrent working environment without limitations of working places. For this reason, a network system based on internet or intranet bas been appeared in various fields of business. Evaluating the integrity of structures is one of the most critical issues in nuclear industry. In order to evaluate the integrity of structures, a complicated and collaborative procedure is required including regular in-service inspection, fracture mechanics analysis, etc. And thus, experts in different fields have to cooperate to resolve the integrity problem. In this paper, an internet-based cooperative system for integrity evaluation system which adapts IT into a structural integrity evaluation procedure for reactor pressure vessel is introduced. The proposed system uses Virtual Reality (VR) technique, Virtual Network Computing (VNC) and agent programs. This system is able to support 3-dimensional virtual reality environment and to provide experts to cooperate by accessing related data through internet.

  • This study focuses on the qualitative characteristics of mackerel marinated with herb extracts. By differentiating the amounts of garlic, ginger and basil, the optimal amount of each ingredient to he added has been found. According to the result of the experiment, the highest level of preference has been shown for the combination of 3% of garlic, 3% of ginger and 2% of basil, generating the optimal amounts to be added. Since the pH change shown by the mackerel marinated by adding the optimal combination of 3% of garlic, 3% of ginger and 2% of basil is included in the range of pH 6.2-6.4, which is the initial point of decomposition for red-fleshed fish, it can be considered to be appropriate for the qualitative characteristics of the product. According to the differences test, GA3 bas shown the lowest level of strength, making it soft. Also, GA3 has shown the highest level of elasticity together with the characteristic of being moist. As a result, it can be said that garlic is better than ginger and basil. According to the preference test, GA3 has shown the highest level of preference in terms of appearance, flavor, texture, taste and overall preference. By considering the above results of the experiment, GA3 (3% of garlic) can be regarded as the optimal amount to be added.

  • In this paper, we propose for improving QoS in wireless micro cellular network using Cellular-IP/PRC(Paging Route Cache) with Paging Cache and Route Cache in Cellular-IP and propose for performance of realtime and non-real time handoff service using Handoff state machine Paging Route Cache. Although the Cellular-IP/PRC technology is devised for mobile internet communication, it bas its vulnerability in frequent handoff environment. On the other hand, Cellular IP combines the capability of cellular networks to provide high performance handoff and efficient location management of active and idle mobile users with the inherent flexibility, robustness and scalability found in IP networks. Also Cellular-IP/PRC use semi-soft handoff. During semi-soft hand off a mobile host may be in contact with either of the old and new base stations and receive packets from them. Packets intended to the mobile node are sent to both base stations and buffered, so when the mobile host eventually moves to the new location it can continue to receive packets without interruption. It should be suitable for realtime service such as multimedia traffic. But, much waste of resource will occur in this method, especially for non-real time services such as FTP and E-mail. Therefore, a new algorithm that performs different handoff according to characteristic of each traffic by use of reserved field in IP packet is proposed in this thesis. This hand off state machine using differentiated handoff improves quality of services in Cellular-IP/PRC. Suggested algorithm shows better performance than existing technology in wireless mobile internet communication environment. Matlab simulation results are improving QoS, show call drop and call blocking provided to Paging Router Cache during handoff state machine in Cellular-IP/PRC.

  • Gender innovation refers to the act of producing more trustworthy science and technology based on gender analysis in conducting and development. Science and technology have been considered to be irrelevant to gender and gender analysis. Science and technology lost opportunity to market and sometimes caused massive losses due to the ignorance of gender and the concept of gender differences. Despite importance in the field of science and technology, the reason why gender innovation does not take place is the lack of woman science in science and technology. Further, the promotion of female scientists policy bas been pursued by the government is one of the reasons. The government has been forcibly carried out without considering 'performanceism' spreading in the scientific and technological fields. This research argues that scientific research brings gender perspective back into all the level of research conduct. In order to improve gender ignorance in science and technology, gender sensitive education should be provided to scientists. Also, gender governance and women's committee for gender analysis should be established to adopt gender analysis in scientific research.
