Recently, sub-micron CMOS technologies have taken the place of III-V materials in a number of areas in integrated circuit designs, in particular even for the applications of gjgabit optical communication applications due to its low cost, high integration level, low power dissipation, and short turn-around time characteristics. In this paper, a four-channel transimpedance amplifier (TIA) array is realized in a standard 0.35mm CMOS technology Each channel includes an optical PIN photodiode and a TIA incorporating the fully differential regulated cascode (RGC) input configuration to achieve effectively enhanced transconductance(gm) and also exploiting the inductive peaking technique to extend the bandwidth. Post-layout simulations show that each TIA demonstrates the mid-band transimpedance gain of 59.3dBW, the -3dB bandwidth of 2.45GHz for 0.5pF photodiode capacitance, and the average noise current spectral density of 18.4pA/sqrt(Hz). The TIA array dissipates 92mw p in total from a single 3.3V supply The four-channel RGC TIA array is suitable for low-power, high-speed optical interconnect applications.

This paper presents a 16-channel transimpedance amplifier (TIA) array implemented in a standard $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology for the applications of panoramic scan LADAR (PSL) systems. Since this array is the front-end circuits of the PSL systems to recover three dimensional image for unmanned vehicles, low-noise and high-gain characteristics are necessary. Thus, we propose a voltage-mode inverter TIA (I-TIA) array in this paper, of which measured results demonstrate that each channel of the array achieves $82-dB{\Omega}$ transimpedance gain, 565-MHz bandwidth for 0.5-pF photodiode capacitance, 6.7-pA/sqrt(Hz) noise current spectral density, and 33.8-mW power dissipation from a single 1.8-V supply. The measured eye-diagrams of the array confirm wide and clear eye-openings up to 1.3-Gb/s operations. Also, the optical pulse measurements estimate that the proposed 16-channel TIA array chip can detect signals within 20 meters away from the laser source. The whole chip occupies the area of $5.0{\times}1.1mm^2$ including I/O pads. For comparison, a current-mode 16-channel TIA array is also realized in the same $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology, which exploits regulated-cascode (RGC) input configuration. Measurements reveal that the I-TIA array achieves superior performance in optical pulse measurements.
A Contact-type Linear Encoder-like Capacitive Displacement Sensor (CLECDiS) has been developed to measure displacements at high accuracy within a long measurement range. In this paper, we have worked on improving the performance and reliability of the sensor. The performance increase can be done by introducing the smaller electrode patterns of $4{\mu}m$ width. In order to improve the reliability of the sensor we have changed the electrode layers from chrome-gold to chrome-gold-chrome and re-design its supporting structure. The newly-designed sensor is fabricated and tested to show that its sensitivity is $35pF/{\mu}m$, which implies that its resolution may be 0.36nm if SNR (Signal-to-Noise-Ratio) is 80.1dB. It is about ten times of that $(3.14pF/{\mu}m)$ of its previous version with 10${\mu}m$ electrodes. The total measurement range remains the same as the previous one; 15mm. The calibration experiments show its improved performance and reliability.
We report the HST pixel analysis results of the interacting S0 galaxy, NGC 5195 (M51B), using the HST/ACS images in the F435W, F555W and F814W (BVI) bands. After 4x4 binning of the HST/ACS images to secure sufficient signal-to-noise ratio for each pixel, we derive several quantities describing the pixel color-magnitude diagram (pCMD) of NGC 5195, such as blue/red color cut, red pixel sequence parameters, blue pixel sequence parameters and blue-to-red pixel ratio. Those parameters reflect the internal properties of NGC 5195 like age, metallicity, dust content and galaxy morphology. To investigate the spatial distributions of stellar populations, we divide pixel stellar populations using the pixel color-color diagram and population synthesis models. As a result, we find that the tidal interaction with NGC 5194 significantly affects the stellar populations in their dust content and mean stellar age.

In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate a self-seeding FP-LD (Fabry Perot Laser Diode) to verify the possibility of a new tunable light source that can be used in WDM-PON (Wavelength Division Multiplexing - Passive Optical Network) system. The conventional implementation of WDM-PON using a tunable light source has a disadvantage that the center wavelength of the AWG (Arrayed Waveguide Grating) device and the tunable light source must be precisely aligned. However, the proposed tunable light source has the advantage that the tunable wavelength is automatically aligned with the center wavelength of the AWG as well as simple structure. The implemented tunable light source had a tunable band of about 14 nm or more, and the maximum RIN (Relative Intensity Noise) of about -124 dB/Hz, which showed the possibility of modulating 10 Gb/s signal by an external modulator.
We have fabricated $∂^2$$B_{z}$ /$∂x^2$ type planar gradiometers and studied their properties in operation under various field conditions. $YBa_2$$Cu_3$$O_{7}$ film was deposited on $SrTiO_3$ (100) substrate by a pulsed laser deposition (PLD) system and patterned into a device by the photolithography with ion milling technique. The device consists of 3 pickup loops designed symmetrically Inner dimension and the width of the square side loops are 3.6 mm and 1.2 mm, respectively, and the corresponding dimensions of the center loop are 2.0 mm and 1.13 mm. The length of baseline gradiometer is 5.8 mm. Step-edge junction width is 3.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the hole size of the SQUID loop is 3 $\mu\textrm{m}$${\times}$ 52 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The SQUID inductance is estimated to be 35 pH. The device was formed on a 20 mm ${\times}$ 10 mm substrate. We have tested the behavior of the device in various field conditions. The unshielded gradiometer was stable under extremely hostile conditions on a laboratory bench. Noise level 0.45 pT/$\textrm{cm}^2$/(equation omitted)Hz and 0.84 pT/$\textrm{cm}^2$/(equation omitted)Hz at 1 Hz for the shielded and the unshielded cases, which correspond to equivalent field noises of 150 fT/(equation omitted)Hz and 280 fT/(equation omitted)Hz, respectively. In spite of the short baseline of 5.8 mm, the high common-mode-rejection-ratio of the gradiometer, $10^3$, allowed us to successfully record magnetocardiogram of a human subject, which demonstrates the feasibility of the design in biomagnetic studies.

This work proposes a 12b 1kS/s 65uA 0.35um CMOS algorithmic ADC for sensor interface applications such as accelerometers and gyro sensors requiring high resolution, ultra-low power, and small size simultaneously. The proposed ADC is based on an algorithmic architecture with recycling techniques to optimize sampling rate, resolution, chip area, and power consumption. Two versions of ADCs are fabricated with a conventional open-loop sampling scheme and a closed-loop sampling scheme to investigate the effects of offset and 1/f noise during dynamic operation. Switched bias power-reduction techniques and bias circuit sharing reduce the power consumption of amplifiers in the SHA and MDAC. The current and voltage references are implemented on chip with optional of-chip voltage references for low-power SoC applications. The prototype ADC in a 0.35um 2P4M CMOS technology demonstrates a measured DNL and INL within 0.78LSB and 2.24LSB, and shows a maximum SNDR and SFDR of 60dB and 70dB in versionl, and 63dB and 75dB in version2 at 1kS/s. The versionl and version2 ADCs with an active die area of $0.78mm^2$ and $0.81mm^2$ consume 0.163mW and 0.176mW at 1kS/s and 2.5V, respectively.
Many recent studies have reported that the quality of input learning data was vital to the detection of regions of interest. However, due to a lack of research on the quality of learning data on lesion detetcting using gastroscopy, we aimed to quantify the impact of quality difference in endoscopic images to lesion detection models using Image Quality Assessment (IQA) algorithms. Through IQA methods such as BRISQUE (Blind/Referenceless Image Spatial Quality Evaluation), Laplacian Score, and PSNR (Peak Signal-To-Noise) algorithm on 430 sheets of high quality data (HQD) and 430 sheets of low quality data (PQD), we showed that there were significant differences between high and low quality images in lesion detecting through BRISQUE and Laplacian scores (p<0.05). The PSNR value showed 10.62±1.76 dB on average, illustrating the lower lesion detection performance of PQD than HQD. In addition, F1-Score of HQD showed higher detection performance at 77.42±3.36% while F1-Score of PQD showed 66.82±9.07%. Through this study, we hope to contribute to future gastroscopy lesion detection assistance systems that involve IQA algorithms by emphasizing the importance of using high quality data over lower quality data.

Purpose : To compare free-breathing and respiratory-triggered diffusion-weighted imaging on 1.5-T MR system in the detection of hepatic lesions. Materials and Methods: This single-institution study was approved by our institutional review board. Forty-seven patients (mean 57.9 year; M:F = 25:22) underwent hepatic MR imaging on 1.5-T MR system using both free-breathing and respiratory-triggered diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) at a single examination. Two radiologists retrospectively reviewed respiratory-triggered and free-breathing sets (B50, B400, B800 diffusion weighted images and ADC map) in random order with a time interval of 2 weeks. Liver SNR and lesion-to-liver CNR of DWI were calculated measuring ROI. Results : Total of 62 lesions (53 benign, 9 malignant) that included 32 cysts, 13 hemangiomas, 7 hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), 5 eosinophilic infiltration, 2 metastases, 1 eosinophilic abscess, focal nodular hyperplasia, and pseudolipoma of Glisson's capsule were reviewed by two reviewers. Though not reaching statistical significance, the overall lesion sensitivities were increased in respiratory-triggered DWI [reviewer1: reviewer2, 47/62(75.81%):45/62(72.58%)] than free-breathing DWI [44/62(70.97%):41/62(66.13%)]. Especially for smaller than 1 cm hepatic lesions, sensitivity of respiratory-triggered DWI [24/30(80%):21/30(70%)] was superior to free-breathing DWI [17/30(56.7%):15/30(50%)]. The diagnostic accuracy measuring the area under the ROC curve (Az value) of free-breathing and respiratory-triggered DWI was not statistically different. Liver SNR and lesion-to-liver CNR of respiratory-triggered DWI ($87.6{\pm}41.4$, $41.2{\pm}62.5$) were higher than free-breathing DWI ($38.8:{\pm}13.6$, $24.8{\pm}36.8$) (p value < 0.001, respectively). Conclusion: Respiratory-triggered diffusion-weighted MR imaging seemed to be better than free-breathing diffusion-weighted MR imaging on 1.5-T MR system for the detection of smaller than 1 cm lesions by providing high SNR and CNR.
