Fifth instar larvae of the new bivoltine hybrid (CSR2 ${\times}$ CSR5) were reared under different temperature and humidity viz., $20^{\circ}C$ and 85 ${pm}$ 5% R.H (T1), $25^{\circ}C$ and 70 ${pm}$ 5% R.H (T2-Optimum), $30^{\circ}C$ and 80% ${pm}$ 5 R.H (T3) and $35^{\circ}C$and 50 ${pm}$ 5% R.H (T4). The cocoon yield, cocoon characters and disease incidence were studied in normal (non infectious source, i.e control) rearing as well as in 1% infectious source of rearing. The results indicated that V instar larval duration was prolonged and cocoon weight was improved in T1. ERR and shell ratio were significantly improved and disease incidence was minimised in T2. Further significant difference was observed among the treatments with regard to spread of diseases.

Silkworm diseases are better prevented than cured. Disinfection and hygiene are the two important aspects in silkworm rearing to prevent the diseases. Suitable disinfectant is the primary need to disinfect the rearing house, its surroundings and appliances to eliminate the persistent pathogens from the rearing environment. In this direction, Serichlor, a new disinfectant in Indian Sericulture marketed as Serichlor-60 (contains 60,000 ppm of chlorine dioxide) and Serichlor-20 (contains 20,000 ppm of chlorine dioxide) has been evaluated for its germicidal effect against the pathogens of silkworm, viz., spores of Nosema bombycis, Bacillus thuringiensis, polyhedra of BmNPV and conidia of Beauveria bassiana both in vitro and in vivo. Results indicated that high concentration (2,500 ppm of chlorine dioxide) is required to kill all the pathogens at 100% level. The efficacy of the Serichlor was greatly enhanced by the addition of 0.5% slaked lime solution. 500 ppm of chlorine dioxide in 0.5% slaked lime solution was found effective against all the pathogens tested. This concentration of disinfectant was also found effective for disinfection of rearing house, rearing appliances and silkworm egg surface. The disinfectant is stable, non hazardous, least corrosive and most suitable for Indian Sericulture.

A new hybrid quasi-3D and 2D high-order shear deformation theory is studied in this mathematical formulation, for an investigation of the bending, free vibrations and buckling influences on a functionally graded material plate. The theoretical formulation has been begun by a displacement field of five unknowns, governing the transverse displacement across the thickness of the plate by bending, shearing and stretching. The transverse shear deformation effect has been taken into consideration, satisfying the stress-free boundary conditions, especially on plate free surfaces as parabolic variation through its thickness. Thus, the mechanical properties of the functionally graded plate vary across the plate thickness, following three distributions forms: the power law, exponential form and the Mori-Tanaka scheme. The mechanical properties are used to develop the equations of motion, obtained from the Hamilton principle, and solved by applying the Navier-type solution for simply supported boundary conditions. The results obtained are compared with other solutions of 2D, 3D and quasi-3D plate theories have been found in the literature.
Objectives This paper was aimed to review the preceding research on the origins, changes and constructive principle of Mahwangjeongchun-tang. Method Based on Jema Lee's works such as Dongyisusebowon and Dongmuyoogo, we analyzed contents related to Mahwangjeongchun-tang and its modification. Moreover, we reviewed physiological and pathological pecularities of Taeeumin symptomatology and applied the theory to induce the principle of the modified Mahwangjeongchun-tang in Sasang medicine. Results and Conclusion 1) The origins of Mahwangjeongchun-tang might be Mahwang-tang, Jungchun-tang and Saengmaek-san. 2) Mahwangjeongchun-tang had been changed in composition when it moved from Manbyonghoichun to Dongyisusebowon. 3) Mahwangjeongchun-tang consists of a) Platycodi Radix (桔梗), Liriopis Tuber(麥門冬) and Scutellariae Radix(黃芩) which directly or indirectly enhance lung function, b) Ephedra Sinica(麻黃) which affects circulation of lung companion, c) Prunus Armeniaca(杏仁) and Ginkgo Biloba(白果) which affect wiwan's upward circulatory force, d) Radish Seed (蘿葍子) which affects small intestine's digesting effect, e) Mori Cortex Radicis(桑白皮) and Farfarae Flos(款冬花) which affect cough and asthma.
In this paper, dynamic and static bending of ball modelled by nanocomposite microbeam by nanoparticles seeing agglomeration is presented. The structural damping is considered by Kelvin-Voigt model. The agglomeration effects are assumed using Mori-Tanaka model. The football ball is modeled by third order shear deformation theory (TSDT). The motion equations are derived by principle of Hamilton's and energy method assuming size effects on the basis of Eringen theory. Using differential quadrature method (DQM) and Newmark method, the static and dynamic deflections of the structure are obtained. The effects of agglomeration and CNTs volume percent, damping of structure, nonlocal parameter, length and thickness of micro-beam are presented on the static and dynamic deflections of the nanocomposite structure. Results show that with increasing CNTs volume percent, the maximum dimensionless dynamic deflection is reduced about 17%. In addition, assuming CNTs agglomeration increases the dimensionless dynamic deflection about 14%. It is also found that with increasing the CNTs volume percent from 0 to 0.15, the static deflection is decreased about 3 times due to the enhance in the stiffness of the structure. In addition, with enhancing the nonlocal parameters, the dynamic deflection is increased about 3.1 times.
By means of thin-layer electrophoresis in agarose gel, hemolymph protein of healthy silkworm larvae and of the nuclear polygedrosis virus infected larvae were studied. 1. In the 4th instar, 4 fractions moving toward anode were separated. Dye-binding Capacity of the fraction was increased according to the stage. 2. After 5th day in the 5th instar, 7 fractions moving toward anode were separated, and one fraction toward cathode was separated. 3. On the first day in the 5th instar, 5 fractions were separated, and on the 4th day of the same instar 5 fractions were separated. 4. As for the hemolymph protein fractions of the polyhedrosis virus infected larvae, on the 6th and 7th day, three fractions(D.E.F) were inclined to increase, whereas on the 8th day 4 fractions(A.B.D.E) were disappeared but F fraction was inclined to decrease.

A breeding programme was initiated during 2001 to introduce sex-limited larval markings to a productive multivoltine breed - BL67 from an inbred sex-limited line, MY1 (SL) maintained at Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute, Mysore. Introgressive hybridization, recurrent backcrossing for six generations followed by sib-mating resulted in synthesis of a new multivoltine silkworm breed BL67 (SL) with sex-limited larval markings. The new breed was studied for combining ability by crossing with eight bivoltine breeds viz., $NB_4D_2,\;CSR_2,\;CSR_2 (SL),\;CSR_2,\;CSR_4,\;CSR_8,\;CSR_{18}\;and\;CSR_{19}$. General combining ability effects of the new breed showed its superiority over the popular Pure Mysore by expressing significant GCA effects for six out of twelve characters whereas the results are on par with the original multivoltine breed. The hybrid $BL67(SL){\times}CSR2(SL)$ excelled in several quantitative characters such as pupation rate (90.2%), cocoon weight (1.97 g), cocoon shell weight (40 cg), cocoon shell ratio (20.3%), filament length (918 m), denier (2.96), raw silk percentage (14.96%) and neatness (90 p). Studies on cocoon size variability revealed that the cocoons of $BL67(SL){\times}CSR2(SL)$ were found comparatively uniform showing less standard deviation of 6.55 and co-efficient of variation of 3.91 %. The suitability of newly developed breed for easy grain age operation and commercial exploitation with promising hybrid have been discussed.

Serious attempt for the improvement of quality parameters in silkworm hybrids came rather very late in India. Realising the need for productive breeds to the field and reorientation in breeding methodology, the silkworm breeders of CSRTI, Mysore were able to develop silkworm breeds with fine denier namely, JPN7, CSR48, B63 and B65 of specific industrial requirement through directional selection. As the success of silkworm breeds mainly depends on their combining ability, the developed breeds were subjected for hybrid evaluation. Out of 42 bivoltine hybrids studied, one hybrid, $CSR48{\times}CSR5$ was identified for its superiority over the existing bivoltine hybrids namely $CSR2{\times}CSR4,\;CSR2{\times}CSR5\;and\;CSR18{\times}CSR19$ for majority of qualitative traits. Post cocoon testing of large quantity of cocoons of $CSR48{\times}CSR5$ resulted in the production of high quality '3A'grade silk. It is for the first time in the Indian Sericulture industry that high quality silk with longer filament length of 1474 m, denier of 2.47, standard size deviation of 0.983 d, maximum size deviation of 1.322, neatness of 96 p, reelability of $85\%$, tenacity of 3.87 g/d, elongation of $22.32\%$ and cohesion of 110 strokes was produced. The superiority of fine denier silkworm breeds and their hybrids are discussed.
Flacherie of all other silkworm diseases greatly affects cocoon crop as it is far-reaching and wide spreading. Fleacherie which kills silkworms caused by bacteria can be classified as bacterial digestive organ disease, and "Sotto" disease. Bacterial digestive organ disease is caused by the bacteria living in the silkworms alementary canal and a majority of flacherie belongs to this disease. Septicemia is caused by bacterias breeding in silkworms body fluid but its attach is comparatively limited during the larva period. "Sotto" disease is caused by eating mulberry leaves infected with bacteria which produce toxin and silkworms are intoxicated and killed by the toxin. The cause of flacherie is mainly due to a poor environment. The unclean and unsanitary silkworm rearing beds help bacterias breeding and bacteria enter silkworms body through mouth organ or skin. The present study is to investigate various causes of flacherie by means of pulverization of silkworm. Filtrated fluid is extracted by centrifuge and hypodermic of peroral inoculation-is given to young and medium silkworms of spring and autumn. The gained results of the experiment are summarized as follows: 1. Silkworms infected with flacherie were pulverized and their filtrated fluid was extracted by centrifuge and inspected under microscope to find polyhedron from the fluid. 2. The experimenting group of peroral inoculation. a) From the third day of peroral inoculation silkworms appetite generally decreased and ate less compared with the control group. b) After 7 days of the inoculation silkworms suffered from empty head, loose bowels and fainting. c) Some of the silkworms still ate but as were shown in Fig. 3 and 4 some dwarfish silkworms were found. d) There was no remarkable difference between 1st and 2nd instar inoculation groups. e) There was a tendency that the number of diseased silkworms was decerased as the increase of instars. 2. The experimental group of hypodermic inoculation a) Both of 3rd and 4th instar inoculation groups showed no remarkable singularity and the number of diseased silkworms decreased. b) The rate of diseased silkworms was comparatively low because the body fluid was acidy or toxin was hard soluble. Hypodermic inoculation could not give much harm to the silkworms compared to peroral inoculation.
It was found that the diapause in the silkworm egg is induced by the action of the diapause hormone secreted from the suboesophageal ganglion, and "esterase A" affects protein metabolism in oocyte and egg. In this connection, some changes in protein metabolism of silkworm egg according to embryonic developments could give some information on the diapause, using Ouchterlony Test. Antigenicity of the protein of silkworm egg was detected through antigen-antibody interaction among the extracts of rabbit blood. Furthermore, existence of the specific antigen was also detected according to embryonic development, using the adsorption test. The results were obtained as follows: 1 Detection of antigenicity The antigenicity of silkworm egg was ascertained by inoculating it into a rabbit, but positive results were shown in most of the silkworm eggs tested, whereas the antibody specific to a certain antigen was not detected. 2. Detection of the common antigen It was demonstrated that most of the antigen could incite the common antibodies, but the specific antibody formation was not detected in a few antigens, even though the nonspecific antibody formation was displayed. 3. Detection of the specific antigen It is suggested that there are the specific antigens detectable in each treated eggs by the adsorption test.
