Beauveria bassiana can be used as a biological insecticide to control a number of pests. It has been known as that B. bassiana TBI-1 have a insecticidal effect on the twospotted spider mite (Teranychus urticae) and the greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum) these days. The biological pest control agent, B. bassiana, showed somewhat insecticidal activities against the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii, too. After treatment with biological insecticide, the mean of increasing rate of aphids was at around recorded at around 0.21 while at around 0.24 in non-treated TBI-1 biological insecticide condition during 1 week. Consequently, it was found that treatment of Beauveria bassiana reduced an increasing rate of aphid population. Also, we could visually observe dead aphids changed as a reddish mold due to this insecticidal fungus. B. bassiana TBI-1 can significantly reduce an increasing rate of aphid population, so effective biological control against the cotton aphid are possible.
Ten strains of the entomopathogenic fungi Metarhizium anisopliae and Beauveria bassiana were evaluated to find the most effective strain for optimization studies. The first criterion tested for strain selection was the mortality (> 50%) of Spodoptera litura larvae after inoculation of the fungus for 4 days. Results on several bioassays revealed that B. bassiana BNBCRC showed the most virulence on mortality S. litura larvae (80% mortality). B. bassiana BNBCRC also showed the highest germination rate (72.22%). However, its conidia yield ($7.2{\times}10^8$ conidia/mL) was lower than those of B. bassiana B 14841 ($8.3{\times}10^8$ conidia/mL) and M. anisopliae M6 ($8.2{\times}10^8$ conidia/mL). The highest accumulative radial growth was obtained from the strain B14841 (37.10 mm/day) while the strain BNBCRC showed moderate radial growth (24.40 mm/day). M. anisopliae M6 possessed the highest protease activity (145.00 mU/mL) while M. anisopliae M8 possessed the highest chitinase activity (20.00 mU/mL) during 96~144 hr cultivation. Amongst these criteria, selection based on virulence and germination rate lead to the selection of B. bassiana BNBCRC. B. bassiana B14841 would be selected if based on growth rate while M. anisopliae M6 and M8 possessed the highest enzyme activities.

This study was conducted to observe the influence of chemical pesticides and environmentally friendly agricultural materials (EFAMs) used in tomato cultivation on the pathogenicity of the entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana. B. bassiana mycelium didn't grow on PDA media containing 13 fungicides including chlorothalonil and colonies were not formed on PDA media containing 12 fungicides. B. bassiana mycelium grew and colonies were formed on all PDA media containing insecticides and EFAMs, but mycelial growth and colony formation on most PDA media were significantly inhibited compared to the control. The insecticidal activity of B. bassiana against Trialeurodes vaporariorum was decreased when fungicides (polyoxin B, mandipropamid) and EFAMs containing sulfur were added, but insecticides (pyridaben, dinotefuran) and EFAMs originated from plant extracts did not have any influence on the insecticidal activity of B. bassiana. The pathogenicity of a mixture of B. bassiana and polyoxin B against T. vaporariorum was lower than that of B. bassiana alone under greenhouse conditions.
Seven different strains of Beauveria bassiana were used in a bioassay on Pieris rapae larvae. The results showed that an B. bassiana strain showed relatively high pathogenicity towards P. rapae larvae. The adjusted mortality rate was 92.86 %, and the infection rate was 85.71 % in 10 days post inoculation. Molecular identification was performed to identify the unknown strain. Internal Transcribed Spacer sequence analysis showed that the polymerase chain reaction amplicon length of the unknown strain of Beauveria sp. was 573 bp, and sequence similarity to the known B. bassiana sequences in the NCBI database was 99 %. The B. bassiana strain was named Bb01. The changes of proteins and PPO of P. rapae larvae infected by B. bassiana Bb01 strain at different times was determined. The activity of PPO increased in 1-6 d and decreased in 7 d again after inoculation. The B. bassiana invaded into the insect body affected the balance of the proteins and PPO.
This study was carried out to development the environment-friendly control method of Myzus persicae using Beauveria bassiana and Environment-friendly agricultural materials (EFAM). Germination rate the dried conidia of B. bassiana was 90 percent at $24{\sim}27^{\circ}C$ temperature condition. Mortality of M. persicae was 56.7% at $1{\times}10^7$ cfu/ml conidia concentration. Four EFAM such as Pachungtan, Wangjungwang, Newbiodakill, Muginchon were low toxicity to B. bassiana growth. Among them, Muginchon (derris extract) and Wangjungwang (neem extract) could have synergistic effect to aphid mortality when mixing treat with B. bassiana, which protection value was 99% in 3 days after treat.
Entomopathogenic fungi have been studied to develop for biological control agents as an alternative to chemical control agents in insect pest management. Two Lepidopteran insects, Spodoptera exigua and Plutella xylostella, are serious insect pests infested various crops, but not effectively controlled by commercial chemical pesticides due to its high insecticide resistance. A fungal isolate was isolated from S. exigua larvae collected from green onion field in Andong, Korea. To identify the fungal isolate, 18srRNA sequence for internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and ${\beta}$-tubulin regions were sequenced. The ITS and ${\beta}$-tubulin sequence were highly matched to Beauveria bassiana and morphological characteristics also was fit to known B. bassiana. Finally, isolated fungus has identified as B. bassiana and named B. bassiana ANU1. The result of bioassay, median lethal concentrations were $2.7{\times}10^3$ and $0.9{\times}10^3conidia/ml$ and medial lethal times were 65.6 and 60.8 h to S. exigua and P. xylostella, respectively. B. bassiana ANU1 showed high pathogenicity to two insect pests from $20^{\circ}C$ to $30^{\circ}C$ at 50% relative humidity (RH) and more than 40% RH at $25^{\circ}C$ with $10^7conidia/ml$ of concentration.
To develope a solid culture media for the mass culture of Beauveria bassiana conida, wheat bran was selected as C source and N source. The pellet media were prepared without(P-I) and with(P-II) solidified ingredient. The moisture for the growth of B. bassiana was required over 4 : 2 of Media : D.W (W/V). The growth of Beauveria bassiana on the media type was more effective in media of pellet type than that of powder type. In addition, production of Beauveria bassiana conidia on the media size was more effective in media of S type($\Phi$3mm) than that of L type($\phi$7mm). And the yield of Beauveria bassiana conidia at 2$0^{\circ}C$ cultivation on 3 weeks post inoculation was similar to that of $25^{\circ}C$. Above-mentioned results showed that pellet medium (P-I) was effective to growth of Beauveria, suggesting that the pellet media may be useful in the mass production of Beauveria bassiana conidia.
When inoculating with B. bassiana 101A for the mass production of B. corpus, the infection ratio was high with regardless of the treating time with highly-humidity if the concentration of spore was 1.0${\times}$$10^8$ spores/m/, but that was low if the concentration was 1.0${\times}$$10^7$ spores/m/. In the study of the activities according to the coserving temperature or days of the B. bassiana spawn, the infection ratio of 90% was maintained for 12 days in the temperature of $4^{\circ}C$. However, the infection ratio was rapidly dropped to the below of 5% after conserved for 48 hours in the temperature of $25^{\circ}C$. Besides, the activities of the original isolate had no difference after conserved for 12 months in the temperature of $4^{\circ}C$, so that the infection ratio 90% could be mintatined. In the measure of liver-protecting activities of B. bassiana 101A, the recovering effect was 43.5% and 65.7% respectively in the poisonous treatment induced with galactosamine, compared with liver-protecting activities of Silymarin and DDB in the $H_2O$ fraction. In the poisonous treatment induced with $CCl_4$ the recovering effect was 100% and 69.3% respectively, compared with liver-protecting activities of Silymarin and DDB in the EtOAc fraction.
