트리거 모델에 따른 일방향 케블라/에폭시 복합재 튜브의 축방향 압괴 거동 연구 (Study on Axial Crushing Behaviors of UD Kevlar/Epoxy with Different Trigger Models)

  • 본 논문에서는 일방향 케블라/에폭시 튜브에 대한 현실적인 트리거 모델링을 개발하기 위해 수치해석 모델이 확립하고 시험결과와 비교를 통해 검증하였다. 이를 위해, 4가지 트리거 모델을 제안하고 각각에 대해 상용 외연적 해석 프로그램인 LS-DYNA을 이용하여 유한요소 해석을 통해 축방향 압괴특성을 규명하였다. 유한요소해석에서는 2D 쉘요소와 Chang-Chang 파손기준식을 이용하였다. 또한, 해석에 적용된 소재의 기계적 물성치는 시험을 통해 얻었다. 해석모델은 원형 튜브에 대한 10mm/min의 준정적 압괴시험결과와 비교를 통해 검증하였다. 그 결과 케블라/에폭시 튜브의 하중-변위 곡선은 거의 일치했으며 무게당 흡수 에너지 (SEA)도 5% 미만의 오차에서 잘 일치하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 에너지 흡수부재로 사용될 수 있는 단방향 케블라/에폭시 및 단방향 탄소-케블라/에폭시 튜브의 압괴거동을 예측할 수 있는 해석모델을 확립하고 이를 시험을 통해 검증하였다. 해석모델은 상용 외연적 해석 프로그램인 LS-DYNA의 2D 쉘 요소와 Chang-Chang 파손기준식을 이용하였다. 또한, 해석에 적용된 소재의 기계적 물성치는 시험을 통해 얻었다. 해석모델은 원형 튜브에 대한 10mm/min의 준정적 압괴 시험 결과와 비교를 통해 검증하였다. 그 결과 케블라/에폭시 튜브의 하중-변위 곡선은 거의 일치했으며 무게당 흡수 에너지(SEA)도 6% 미만의 오차에서 잘 일치하였다. 하지만, 탄소-케블라/에폭시 튜브는 시험과 약간의 차이를 보이고 있다.

Mechanical properties and failure mechanisms of sandstone with pyrite concretions under uniaxial compression

  • A uniaxial compression test was performed to analyse the mechanical properties and macroscale and mesoscale failure mechanisms of sandstone with pyrite concretions. The effect of the pyrite concretions on the evolution of macroscale cracks in the sandstone was further investigated through numerical simulations with Particle Flow Code in 2D (PFC2D). The results revealed that pyrite concretions substantially influence the mechanical properties and macroscale and mesoscale failure characteristics of sandstone. During the initial loading stage, significant stress concentrations occurred around the edges of the pyrite concretion accompanied by the preferential generation of cracks. Meanwhile, the events and cumulative energy counts of the acoustic emission (AE) signal increased rapidly because of friction sliding between the concretion and sandstone matrix. As the axial stress increased, the degree of the stress concentration remained relatively unchanged around the edges of the concretions. The cracks continued growing rapidly around the edges of the concretions and gradually expanded toward the centre of the sample. During this stage, the AE events and cumulative energy counts increased quite slowly. As the axial stress approached the peak strength of the sandstone, the cracks that developed around the edges of the concretion started to merge with cracks that propagated at the top-left and bottom-right corners of the sample. This crack evolution ultimately resulted in the shear failure of the sandstone sample around the edges of the pyrite concretions.

Bending Properties of Parallel Chord Truss with Steel-Web Members

  • A truss is a structure in which the members are connected and arranged such that they are primarily subjected to axial loading. A truss has the advantage that it can be used for a longer span because the structure distributes the applied force to its members well, and the load is transmitted only in the axial direction of the members. Trusses manufactured using timber have more advantages than those made of other materials. In this study, the properties of parallel chord trusses composed of timber chord and steel-web members were evaluated. We constructed truss specimens with various lengths by using upper and lower chords of 2 × 4 inch spruce-pine-fir lumber and steel-web members manufactured by S and P companies. The specimens were tested in accordance with KS F 2150. The test results showed that the load at the deflection limit and the deflection limit itself increased from L/180 to L/360 regardless of the length of the specimens. For specimens of the same length, the load at the deflection limit increased as the height of the parallel timber chord truss specimens increased from 200 to 300 mm. Successive installations of the steel-web members (SST) showed almost 2 times the load at each deflection limit compared to that of SAT specimens (alternate installation of the steel-web members). When comparing the three load-deflection limits in terms of the manufacturer of the steel-web members, the load at each deflection limit for SST specimens was higher than that for PST specimens.

Behavior of RC columns strengthened with NSM and hybrid FRP under pure bending: Experimental and analytical study

  • In recent decades the strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) structural elements using Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) has received much attention. The behavior of RC elements can vary from axial compression to pure bending, depending on their loading. When the compressive behavior is dominant, the FRP jacket application is common, but when the flexural behavior is prevalent, the codes consider the FRP jacket ineffective. Codes suggest applying FRP bars or strips as Near-surface Mounted (NSM) or Externally Bonded (EB) in the tensile face to strengthen the beams under flexure. To strengthen the columns in tension-control mode, some researchers have suggested NSM FRP bars in both tension and compression faces alone or with the FRP jacket (hybrid). However, the number of tests that evaluate the pure bending of the strengthened columns as one of the pivotal points of the axial force-moment interaction curve is limited. In this paper, 11 RC elements strengthened using the NSM (in both tension and compression faces) or hybrid method were subjected to bending to assess the effect of the amount and material type of the FRP bar and jacket and the dimensions of the groove. The test results revealed that the NSM method increased the flexural capacity of the members between 10% to 50%. Furthermore, using the hybrid method increased the capacity between 51% to 91%. Finally, an analytical model was presented considering the effect of the NSM FRP bond in different circumstances, and its results were in good agreement with the experimental results.

재활용 암버력 - 토사의 회복탄성계수 예측 모델 (A Prediction Model of Resilient Modulus for Recycled Crushed-Rock-Soil-Mixture)

  • 재활용된 암버력-토사의 회복탄성계수 예측모델이 개발되었다. 반복삼축시험을 통한 회복탄성계수의 전통적 평가방법은 큰 입경을 가진 자갈에는 실현 불가능하다. 미세한 차이가 있는 비선형 전단탄성계수를 이용하여 회복탄성계수를 산출하는 대체기법을 제안하였다. 현장에서 측정한 최대전단탄성계수와 대형공진주 시험으로 구한 감소곡선을 이용하여 회복탄성계수 예측모델을 개발하였다. 이 예측모델을 김천의 고속도로공사현장에서 재활용한 암버력-토사에 적용하여 모델인자 $A_E,\;n_E,\;{\varepsilon}_r,\;{\alpha}$를 각각 9618, 0.47, 0.0135, 0.8로 제안하였다.

Seismic damage assessment of steel reinforced recycled concrete column-steel beam composite frame joints

  • Low cyclic loading tests are conducted on the steel reinforced recycled concrete (SRRC) column-steel (S) beam composite frame joints. This research aims to evaluate the earthquake damage performance of composite frame joints by performing cyclic loading tests on eight specimens. The experimental failure process and failure modes, load-displacement hysteresis curves, characteristic loads and displacements, and ductility of the composite frame joints are presented and analyzed, which shows that the composite frame joints demonstrate good seismic performance. On the basis of this finding, seismic damage performance is examined by using the maximum displacement, energy absorbed in the hysteresis loops and Park-Ang model. However, the result of this analysis is inconsistent with the test failure process. Therefore, this paper proposes a modified Park-Ang seismic damage model that is based on maximum deformation and cumulative energy dissipation, and corrected by combination coefficient ${\alpha}$. Meanwhile, the effects of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement percentage and axial compression ratio on the seismic damage performance are analyzed comprehensively. Moreover, lateral displacement angle is used as the quantification index of the seismic performance level of joints. Considering the experimental study, the seismic performance level of composite frame joints is divided into five classes of normal use, temporary use, repair after use, life safety and collapse prevention. On this basis, the corresponding relationships among seismic damage degrees, seismic performance level and quantitative index are also established in this paper. The conclusions can provide a reference for the seismic performance design of composite frame joints.

지진하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 교각의 소요연성도에 따른 심부구속철근량 (Confinement Steel Amount for Ductility Demand of RC Bridge Columns under Seismic Loading)

  • 본 연구는 철근콘크리트 교각에 대한 새로운 내진설계법을 개발하기 위한 연구의 일환으로서, 지진하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 교각의 연성도와 심부구속철근량의 상관관계를 분석하고 설계식을 제시함을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여, 반복하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 기둥의 횡하중-변위 포락곡선 실험결과를 비교적 정확하게 예측하며, 특히 변형능력 및 연성도에 대하여는 실험결과에 비하여 안전측의 결과를 제공하는 비선형해석 프로그램 [NARCE]를 이용하였다. 해석의 대상 교각으로는, 단면지름, 형상비, 콘크리트 강도, 축방향철근 항복강도, 심부구속철근 항복강도, 축방향철근비, 축력비, 심부구속철근비 등을 주요변수로 하여 총 7,200개의 철근콘크리트 나선철근 기둥 모델을 채택하였다. 해석결과 자료를 대상으로 상관관계를 분석하여 소요연성도에 따른 심부구속철근량의 새로운 설계식을 제안하였으며, 이 식은 연성도에 기초한 철근콘크리트 교각의 새로운 내진설계법에 적용될 수 있을 것이다.

AE와 DRA를 이용한 초기응력의 측정에 관한 연구 (In-situ Stress Measurement Using AE and DRA)

  • AE와 DRA를 이용한 초기응력 측정법은 실험실 시험을 통해 초기응력을 측정하는 방법 중의 하나이다. 이 방법은 시추와 실험실 시험간에 지연시간이 발생하며 시료에 축방향 반복하중을 가하여 초기응력을 결정하기 때문에 지하 암반의 응력 상태와는 다른 결과를 얻을 수도 있다. 이 연구에서는 지연시간을 다르게 하여 지연시간이 선행응력 결정에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 그리고 축방향 선행응력만을 가한 시료와 축방향 선행응력과 봉압을 모두 가한 시료에 대해 AE와 DRA를 이용하여 선행응력을 결정하여 봉압이 축방향 선행응력 결정에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 지연시간이 길어질수록 오차가 약간씩 증가하는 경향이 나타났으나 지연시간이 1개월인 시료라 할지라도 AE와 DRA를 이용한 경우 각각 16%와 12%의 오차범위 내에서 선행응력을 결정할 수 있었다. 축방향 선행응력만을 가한 경우 AE를 이용하면 9%, DRA를 이용하면 4%의 오차범위 내에서 축방향 선행응력을 결정할 수 있었으나 축방향 선행응력과 봉압을 모두 가한 경우는 각각 17%와 14%의 오차범위 내에서 축방향 선행응력을 결정할 수 있었다. 터널현장에서 시추한 코어를 이용하여 초기응력을 측정한 결과 AE와 DRA는 유사한 결과를 나타내었으나 수압파쇄법에 의한 결과보다는 작은 값을 갖는 것으로 나타났다.

The Changes in Range of Motion after a Lumbar Spinal Arthroplasty with Charite$^{TM}$ in the Human Cadaveric Spine under Physiologic Compressive Follower Preload: A Comparative Study between Load Control Protocol and Hybrid Protocol

  • Objective: To compare two testing protocols for evaluating range of motion (ROM) changes in the preloaded cadaveric spines implanted with a mobile core type Charite$^{TM}$ lumbar artificial disc. Methods: Using five human cadaveric lumbosacral spines (L2-S2), baseline ROMs were measured with a bending moment of 8 Nm for all motion modes (flexion/extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation) in intact spine. The ROM was tracked using a video-based motion-capturing system. After the Charite$^{TM}$ disc was implanted at the L4-L5 level, the measurement was repeated using two different methods: 1) loading up to 8 Nm with the compressive follower preload as in testing the intact spine (Load control protocol), 2) loading in displacement control until the total ROM of L2-S2 matches that when the intact spine was loaded under load control (Hybrid protocol). The comparison between the data of each protocol was performed. Results: The ROMs of the L4-L5 arthroplasty level were increased in all test modalities (p < 0.05 in bending and rotation) under both load and hybrid protocols. At the adjacent segments, the ROMs were increased in all modes except flexion under load control protocol. Under hybrid protocol, the adjacent segments demonstrated decreased ROMs in all modalities except extension at the inferior segment. Statistical significance between load and hybrid protocols was observed during bending and rotation at the operative and adjacent levels (p< 0.05). Conclusion: In hybrid protocol, the Charite$^{TM}$ disc provided a relatively better restoration of ROM, than in the load control protocol, reproducing clinical observations in terms of motion following surgery.
