A Simulation Study for Inventory Policies in a Multi-Echelon Supply Chain (다단계 공급체인에서 재고정책들에 대한 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • Managing multi-echelon inventory systems has gained importance over the last decade mainly because integrated control of supply chains consisting of several processing and distribution stages has become feasible through modern information technology. Determination of optimal inventory policy for multi-echelon supply chain is made difficult by the complex interaction between the different levels. In this paper, we investigate performance of five inventory policies (fixed quantity order policy, fixed interval order policy, compromised order policy, lead time-fixed quantity order policy, and mixed order policy) in a multi-echelon supply chain by using a simulation model constructed with AweSim simulation language. The results of the simulation study show that the mixed order policy is the best among five inventory policies in the most test problems except the case when the stockout cost per unit is much higher than the inventory holding and transportation costs per unit.

But, in Pusan port, this study on an evaluation of traffic congestion has been scarcely performed until now.   • 물류망의 운영을 계획하는 일은 기업의 물류망 전반을 함께 다루어야 하기 때문에 매우 복잡하고 어렵다. 물류망은 그 특성상 네트워크로써 표현되고, 많은 확률적 성질을 가지는 활동들이 존재하고, 동적 환경에서 진행되고, 또 활동들이 상호 의존적 관계를 유지하고 있다는 사실에 비추어, 물류망의 운영계획을 위해 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 기법의 적용이 매우 효과적이다. 본 논문에서는 AweSim 시뮬레이션 전용언어와 Visual Basic 윈도우용 범용 프로그래밍 언어를 가지고 물류망 운영계획을 위해 사용할 수 있는 시뮬레이터 프로토타입(prototype)의 개발을 간단한 실행 예와 함께 소개한다. 시뮬레이터와 사용자와의 모든 인터페이스는 Visual Basic 윈도우 환경에서 진행되며, AweSim 시뮬레이션은 Visual Basic 화면의 background에서 이루어진다. 개발된 물류망 시뮬레이터는 기업에서 통합 물류관리를 위해 필수적인 물류망 운영계획의 의사결정지원 도구로서 효과적으로 사용될 수 있을 것이며, 이에 따라 기업에서는 설정된 고객서비스 수준을 최소의 물류비로서 만족시킬 수 있는 최적의 물류망 운영계획을 수립할 수 있을 것이다.

  • A simulation model for the estimation of cutoff connection rate in the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switching system under multimedia traffic environments is presented. The simulator is developed by the integration of the AweSim tool with user-written C++ routines that model the internal structures of operational details of the switching system. For the case study, the simulator is applied to the ATM switching system developed by Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) to compare design alternatives according to the cutoff connection rates.

  • Logistics network management has become one of the most important sources of competitive advantage regarding logistics cost and customer service in numerous business segments. Logistics network simulation is a powerful analysis method for designing and planning the logistics network optimally in an integrated way. This paper introduces a logistics network simulator, LONSIM, developed by author. LONSIM deploys a mix of simulation and optimization functions to model and analysis logistics network issues such as facility location, inventory policy, manufacturing policy, transportation mode, warehouse assignment, supplier assignment, order processing priority rule, and vehicle routes. LONSIM is built with AweSim 2.1 and Visual Basic 6.0, and executed in windows environment.

Bottleneck Detection Based on Duration of Active Periods (생산 활동기간 기반 애로공정의 발견)

  • This paper applies an active period based bottleneck detection method to flow shop manufacturing system with limited buffer size. Manufacturing systems are constrained by one or more bottlenecks which degrades the system throughput. Conventional bottleneck detection methods include the waiting time or queue length of production stations and their utilization. Due to the random events such as production time of items, machine failure and repair times, the systems may change over time, and subsequently bottlenecks shift from one station to another station. Active period of working station may cause other stations to wait for productions. Information when and where active periods occur helps to find bottlenecks in production systems. Based on these informations, we predict bottlenecks in applying AweSim simulation language. We compare the simulation results of conventional methods with those obtained from duration of active period method, and duration ratio method of both sole and shift bottleneck periods. Even though simulation results are from simple flow shop model, they are quite promising for predicting bottlenecks of production stations. We hope this study aids in decision making regarding the improving system production yield and allocation of available resources of system.

A Study on the Traffic Analysis of Optical Subscriber Network (광가입자망의 트래픽 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Network of these days, A transmission medium of information is replaced from electric signal to optical signal to accept various and increased network traffic. In this paper, we develop simulation program using AweSim and simulate EPON system as a high-speed optical subscriber network with various conditions. The effects of number of ONUs, effects of network load and effects of slot assignment schemes have been evaluated. The simulation results show that slot assignment schemes and number of ONUs is major factor of network performance. The variable-number slot scheme is more efficient than fixed-length slot scheme in the traffic processing.

  • ATM 환경의 다양한 QOS를 갖는 트래픽의 우선순위제어를 위해, ATM 스위치의 출력 버퍼에 저장되는 셀의 큐메카니즘을 제안하였다. 제안한 큐 방식은 가변큐공유(VQS4 : Variable Queue Sharing with 4 queue)방식으로서 기존의 고정 큐 방식의 문제점인 버스트 트래픽으로 인한 큐 오버플로우의 문제점을 개선하기 위해 CBR 큐, VBR-rt큐, VBR_nrt 큐, ABR 큐의 영역을 가변적으로 공유하여 큐 자원의 이용율을 최대화시킴으로써 순간 버스트 트래픽 유입으로 인한 셀손실율을 최소화시킬 수 있는 특성을 제공한다. VQS4 방식의 성능을 평가하기 위해 버스트 특성이 강한 트래픽 패턴을 이용하여 고정 큐를 이용한 HOL과 제안 방식인 VQS4의 셀손실률 및 평균 지연률을 비교하였으며 시뮬레이터는 Visual Slam 2.0(AweSim)을 이용하여 작성했다.

  • For the purpose of analyzing the influence of the recent environmental changes of container logistics system in container terminal, the simulation model of container logistics system on BCTOC is developed in this paper. The simulation model is accomplished by the AweSim simulation language, and the several data which have been used in simulation gained through spot research and basic statistic analysis using the first half of 1998 electronic data in BCTOC. The results of this study are as follows; (1) In the case of BCTOC, the decreasing of container volumes is observed during the first half of 1998 compare with that of 1997. (2) In the container handling service market, the monopolistic market system in the past rapidly diverts to the competition market system from now. (3) From the simulation results, the improving of container logistics system is observed. (4) Because of these results, BCTOC will come to strengthen customer service and competitive power through starting On-Dock service system and operating the team of customer management in the long term.
