The subjects in this study were 363 college students. Out of the selected students, 174 were health-related majors, and 189 weren't. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed for the purpose of comparison, and the following findings were given: 1. Concerning daily mean toothbrushing frequency, the largest number of the male students who accounted for 55.2 percent brushed their teeth once a day on average, and the greatest number of the female students who represented 52.9 percent did that twice a day. As for the influence of their major, the largest group of the health-related majors who numbered 89(51.1%) brushed their teeth twice a day, and the greatest group of the health-unrelated majors who numbered 93(49.2%) did that once a day. The gaps between them were statistically significant(p<0.05). 2. As to the length of toothbrushing time by gender, it took more than two or three minutes for the largest groups of the male and female students that respectively numbered 96(76.8%) and 184(77.3%) to do toothbrushing(p<0.01). Thus, the use of oral hygiene supplies was statistically less common among the health-unrelated majors, and the gap between the two was significant(p<0.01). 4. As for health-related concern by gender, the largest group of the male students that numbered 56(44.8%) showed the most interest in preventing dental caries, and the greatest group of the female students that numbered 103(43.3%) were most concerned about tooth whitening. The gap between the male and female students was statistically significant(p<0.05), but the track of their major made no statistically significant difference to that. 5. Regarding the experience and awareness of scaling, the largest number of the students never got their teeth scaled regardless of gender and major, and the greatest group didn't care about scaling irrespective of gender and major, either, though they considered it advisable to do.

So their cycle of oral health examination was statistically significantly different according to age(p<.05), education(p<0.001) and form of residence(p<0.001). 2. Regarding the necessity of prosthesis, prosthesis was needed by 52.1 percent of the age group from 71 to 80, 44.3 percent of the women, 48.9 percent of the men, 60.0 percent of the community college graduates and 55.9 percent who rent a house on a deposit or monthly basis. Their age(p<.0.01), gender(p<0.05) education(p<0.05) and form of residence(p<0.01) made a statistically significant difference to that. 4. Concerning oral health education experience, 79.3 percent of the high school graduates and 79.8 percent of the house owners had never received oral health education, and that experience statistically significantly varied with education(p<0.001) and form of residence (p<0.001). 5. As to the biggest reason for oral health care, 50.0 percent found it necessary to take care of their teeth to ensure their own perpetual oral health, and 33.7 percent felt the need for that because they had a toothache. This study was conducted with 200 outpatients and inpatients of military hospitals around the northern region of Gyeonggi-Do. 182 questionnaires in 200 copies were returned, which meant that the return rate was 91%. 180 questionnaires were used for analysis because 2 questionnaires included untrustful responses. The questionnaires were filled by the subjects for 20 days from Dec. 1, 2008 to Dec. 20, 2008. First, in accordance with the examination on the awareness and knowledge on the dental caries, periodontal disease and oral health care, the awareness on the prevention of dental caries was 18.733 points in 25 full points. Second, for the examination on the oral health status according to the interest and education related to oral health care, the interest and oral health status showed the statistically significant relationship(P=0.0083). Third, in accordance with the analysis on the relationship between oral health status and awareness and knowledge on oral health care, for the awareness on the prevention of dental caries, the answer "Not healthy" was 19.188 points, the answer "Average" 18.210 points and the answer "Healthy" 18.971 points. In conclusion, the higher the interest on the education and oral health care was, the better the behavior for oral health care and oral health status were. For keeping and deploying the best fighting power in the military and the country, the oral health program shall be pushed ahead as the key project to keep the good oral status of soldiers.
In order to determine dental clinic inpatients' awareness about their periodontal health, this study conducted a questionnaire survey on total 212 inpatients admitted in 2 dental clinics and 1 dental hospital located all in Seoul metropolitan area. Resulting data were analyzed using SPSS 14.0 statistic program. As a result, this study could come to the following conclusions: 1. It was found that overall awareness about health of periodontal tissues averaged 3.40 points; our respondents showed highest awareness on prevention of periodontal diseases(3.95 points), while showing the lowest awareness on maintenance of periodontal tissues(3.09 points). 2. For differences in the awareness on periodontal health depending on general characteristics, it was found that there were significant differences between respective groups in overall periodontal health awareness and its sub-domains depending on sex and occupation. 3. For possible correlations between respective sub-domains of awareness, it was found that preventive awareness had most significant correlations with causal awareness, while preventive awareness had no significant correlation with symptomatic awareness. 4. For differences in the extent of oral health practice and periodontal health awareness, it was found that the more frequency of daily toothbrushing plus scaling experiences led to more significant differences in all the sub-domains of awareness.
The purpose of this study was to provide data on the development of educational programs to maintain oral health in adolescence by identifying the relevance of health behavior and symptom to adolescents. The subjects of this study were 27,919 high school students' using the 15th (2019) Youth Health Behavior Online Survey. The logistic regression analysis was used to identify the factors influencing oral symptoms. The results showed that the recognition of gingiva pain was significantly lower in the subjects with male sex, lower education level, higher income level, and higher subjective perception of oral health. Higher the stress, higher the pain recognition, revealing a statistical significance. The awareness on bad breath-related symptoms was significantly higher in the adolescents with male sex, higher degree of stress, and lower frequency of daily toothbrushing. The lower awareness on halitosis was associated with higher income and higher subjective perception of oral health, showing a statistical significance. This study found that the health behavior of adolescents had an effect on their oral symptoms and the finding is expected to help develop programs for preventing those oral symptoms.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the appropriate management and implementation of the oral malodor prevention for the general people. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 420 subjects in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province from March to October, 2013. Except 19 copies, 401 copies were analyzed. The instrument of subjective oral malodor awareness and status was adapted from Yoon and Youn and partly modified. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics(4 questions), oral malodor awareness(3 questions), oral malodor related characteristics(3 questions), self-diagnostic test of oral malodor(5 questions), and subjective oral malodor and health status(3 questions). Self-diagnostic test of oral malodor was score as yes(1 point) and no(0 point). The subjective oral malodor and health status scoring was done by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach alpha was 0.713 in the self-diagnostic test of oral malodor. Results: The self-recognition rate of oral malodor was 0.8%. When the level of oral malodor increased to 1 point, the self-test of oral malodor increased as the rate of 0.033(p<0.05). Conclusions: There existed no close correlation between subjective recognition of oral malodor and oral malodor self-test. Therefore, oral malodor should be measured by an expert counseling to make an accurate diagnosis. It is important to establish the appropriate oral malodor prevention program for the general people.
