  • Yields of ginseng seedlings and cultivation methods were investigated in 29 Ban-Yang-Jik (semimodified soil) nurseries to obtain some information about the production of ginseng seedling. The average number of available seedlings (useful for transplanting in the main field) per Kan ($180{\times}90$ cm) was 362. The percentage of available seedlings to the total seedlings harvested (rate of available seedlings) was 45 %. Although there were severe variations in the numbers and rates of available seedlings among the nurseries surveyed, the number of available seedlings were reduced due to both the short weighted and poor shaped (obese shape with poor root development) seedlings. The number of poor shaped seedlings was negatively correlated with height of seed-bed and frequencies of irrigation. Quadratic relations were noticed between rate of available seedling and heights of front post and rear post of shade. On the other hand, negative correlation was recognized between rate of available seedling and breadth of shade, but positive correlation was noted between rate of available seedling and frequencies of irrigation.

  • This paper presents a channel-adaptive rate control algorithm for low delay video coding. The main goal of the proposed method is to adaptively use the unknown available channel bandwidth while reducing the end-to-end delay between encoder and decoder. The key idea of the proposed algorithm is for the status of the encoder buffer to indirectly reflect the mismatch between the available channel bandwidth and the generated bitrate. Hence, the proposed method fully utilizes the unknown available channel bandwidth by monitoring the encoder buffer status. Simulation results show that although the target bitrate mismatches the available channel bandwidth, the encoder efficiently adapts the given available bandwidth to improve the peak signal-to-noise ratio.

  • This study was attempted to investigate the dissolution rate and the bioavailability after oral administration of commercially available aspirin tablets in normal volunteers. The dissolution test was conducted in artificial gastric juice using basket method with three aspirin preparations (A, B and C) which were chemically equivalent. The results were as follows; The dissolution rate was higher in the order of three different brand B>A >C. Area under the blood concentration and peak blood concentration were larger in the order of brand A>B>C. Absorption rate constant and peak time were larger in the order of brand B>A>C, and there was a little difference in elimination rate constant and biological half-life. The correlation of the dissolution rate and absorption rate constant, as well as correlation of the dissolution rate and peak time showed significant linear relationship respectively. From the results of this experiment, it can be concluded that the bioavailability of aspirin tablets showed much difference according to commercial preparations, and that the bioavailability of aspirin tablets in human may be predicted from the results of dissolution rate studies.

  • As the real-time multimedia applications through Internet increase, the bandwidth available to TCP connections is oppressed by the UDP traffic, result in the performance of overall system is extremely deteriorated. Therefore, developing a new transmission protocol is necessary. The TCP-friendly algorithm is an example meeting this necessity. The TCP-friendly (TFRC) is an UDP-based protocol that controls the transmission rate based on the available round transmission time (RTT) and the packet loss rate (PLR). In the data transmission processing, transmission rate is determined based on the conditions of the previous transmission period. If the one-step ahead predicted values of the control factors are available, the performance will be improved significantly. This paper proposes a prediction model of transmission rate control factors that will be used for the transmission rate control, which improves the performance of the networks. The model developed through this research is predicting one-step ahead variables of RTT and PLR. A multiplayer perceptron neural network is used as the prediction model and Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is used for the training. The values of RTT and PLR were collected using TFRC protocol in the real system. The obtained prediction model is validated using new data set and the results show that the obtained model predicts the factors accurately.

  • In wireless ad-hoc network, knowing the available bandwidth of the time varying channel is imperative for live video streaming applications. This is because the available bandwidth is varying all the time and strictly limited against the large data size of video streaming. Additionally, adapting the encoding rate to the suitable bit-rate for the network, where an overlarge encoding rate induces congestion loss and playback delay, decreases the loss and delay. While some effective rate controlling methods have been proposed and simulated well like VTP (Video Transport Protocol) [1], implementing to cooperate with the encoder and tuning the parameters are still challenging works. In this paper, we show our result of the implementation experiment of VTP based encoding rate controlling method and then introduce some techniques of our parameter tuning for a video streaming application over wireless environment.

  • This study was attempted to investigate the dissolution rate and bioavailability of commercially available furosemide preparations. A. B. and C. The dissolution test was conducted in an artificial gastric juice using the basket method. and furosemide (40 mg) was administered orally to 8 normal volunteers by cross-over design. The results were as follows: the AUC and dissolution rate in 100 min ($D_{100\;min}$) were higher in order of preparations. A > C > B. But the peak concentration. time to reach peak concentration $(T_{max})$, and mean dissolution time (MDT) were in order of preparations. C > A > B. There were significantly linear correlations between the AUC and the $D_{100\;min}$, and between the $T_{max}$ and the MDT. From the results of this experiment. it can be concluded that commercially available preparations bioavailability of furosemide, which may be predicted from the dissolution rate.

  • Theoretical analysis reported in this paper is on the varities of the growth rate of Chlorella ellipsoidea due to the amount of available phosphorus for the purpose of the continual mass culture. Available phosphorus in the culture media of the Chlorella was also estimated at a limiting factor as this experiment. The equation between the concentration of Chlorella n and growth period t is $\frac{dn}{dt}=Kn$, and the functional relation between the Specific growth rate K and steady state period T is the following: $K=\frac{2.303}{T}$log\frac{n}{no}$ ($n_o$=initial concentration).

  • ABR service is defined by ATM Forum and ITU for the efficient use of link bandwidth, and 2-pass service policing is proposed for this service. 2-pass service policing is effective by the real-time measurement of the used bandwidth, and this scheme obtains multiplexing gam and control efficiently ABR traffic as dynamically allocating rate by residual bandwidth information. In this study, we propose the real-time bandwidth prediction scheme for ABR traffic control, as using dynamic rate allocation by available bandwidth information. This study can obtain the simple hardware structure by means of as predicting available bandwidth by the total link bandwidth and the sum of transmission rate on the backlogged state connections.
