In this paper, we present a new control methodology for perturbed crane systems. Nonlinear crane systems are transformed to linear models by feedback linearization. An inverse dynamic equation is applied to compute the system PD control force. The PD control parameters are selected based on a nominal model and are therefore suboptimal for a perturbed system. To achieve the desired performance despite model perturbations, we construct a neural network auxiliary controller to compensate for modeling errors and disturbances. The overall control input is the sum of the nominal PD control and the neural auxiliary control. The neural network is iteratively trained with a perturbed system until acceptable performance is attained. We apply the proposed control scheme to 2- and 3-degree-of-freedom (D.O.F.) crane systems, with known bounds on the payload mass. The effectiveness of the control approach is numerically demonstrated through computer simulation experiments.
This study describes a method which can attenuate reaction force effectively for an air spring system composed of an air spring and auxiliary chamber. For the analysis, the nonlinear governing equation of the air spring system is derived. For a performance improvement of the system, change of the heat transfer effect and the mass flow rates is included in the analysis of the air spring system. The simulation study is presented to show the reaction force is changed by variations in heat transfer characteristics and the air spring system of isothermal process has the best performance. As a result, to improve attenuation characteristics of reaction force, a process in the air spring system should be maintained near isothermal process.

The sway motion control problem of a container hanging on the trolley is considered in this paper. In the container crane control problem, the main issue involves suppressing the residual swing motion of the container at the end of acceleration, during deceleration, or for an unexpected disturbance input. For this problem, in general, many trolley motion control strategies are introduced and applied. In this paper, we introduce and synthesize a swing motion control system, in which a small auxiliary mass is installed on the spreader. In this control system, the actuator reacting against the auxiliary mass applies inertial control forces to the container to reduce the swing motion in the desired manner. In many studies, the controllers used to suppress the vibration have been synthesized for the given mathematical model of plants. In many cases, the designers have not been able to utilize the degree of freedom to adjust the structural parameters for the control object. To overcome this problem, so called "Structure/Control Simultaneous Method" is used. From this, in this paper the simultaneous design method is used to achieve optimal system performance. And the experimental result shows that the proposed control strategy is useful, to the case of that the controlled system is exposed to the uncertainties and, robust to disturbances like wind.
A particle tuned mass damper (PTMD) system is the combination of a traditional tuned mass damper (TMD) and a particle damper (PD). This paper presents the results of an experimental and analytical study of the damping performance of a PTMD attached to the top of a benchmark model under wind load excitation. The length ratio of the test model is 1:200. The vibration reduction laws of the system were explored by changing some system parameters (including the particle material, total auxiliary mass ratio, the mass ratio between container and particles, the suspending length, and wind velocity). An appropriate analytical solution based on the concept of an equivalent single-unit impact damper is presented. Comparison between the experimental and analytical results shows that, with the proper use of the equivalent method, reasonably accurate estimates of the dynamic response of a primary system under wind load excitation can be obtained. The experimental and simulation results show the robustness of the new damper and indicate that the damping performance can be improved by controlling the particle density, increasing the amount of particles, and aggravating the impact of particles etc.
This paper presents systematic study of the experimental application of a free-interfaced component mode synthesis method. In the free-interfaced component mode synthesis method, an error the to truncated higher modes and neglected ineria loadings on a component from the connected component is inherent. Also, it is difficult to directly use experimental modal data in a modal synthesis method which links experimental model to finite-element model because of many inconsistencies between experimentally obtained and analytically obtained modal vectors and missing degrees-of-freedom (DOFs) such as rotational DOFs. In order to solve these problems, three methods, the first one based on attaching auxiliary weights to the connection points, the second one utillizing the normalization of experimental modal vector, and the third one generating smoothed and expanded experimental mode shapes, are studied in this paper. Finally, the study is illustrated for a flat-plate structure by using simulated and measured experimental data.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Considering the high number of deaths from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Latin American countries, together with multiple factors that increase the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency, we aimed to determine 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) levels and its association with mortality in patients with critical COVID-19. SUBJECTS/METHODS: This was a prospective observational study including adult patients with critical COVID-19. Data, including clinical characteristics and 25(OH)D levels measured at the time of intensive care unit admission, were collected. All patients were followed until hospital discharge or in-hospital death. The patients were divided into those surviving and deceased patient groups, and univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine independent predictors of in hospital mortality. RESULTS: The entire cohort comprised 94 patients with critical COVID-19 (males, 59.6%; median age, 61.5 years). The median 25(OH)D level was 12.7 ng/mL, and 15 (16%) and 79 (84%) patients had vitamin D insufficiency and vitamin D deficiency, respectively. The median serum 25(OH)D level was significantly lower in deceased patients compared with surviving (12.1 vs. 18.7 ng/mL, P < 0.001). Vitamin D deficiency was present in 100% of the deceased patients. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age, body mass index, other risk factors, and 25(OH)D level were independent predictors of mortality. CONCLUSIONS: Vitamin D deficiency was present in 84% of critical COVID-19 patients. Serum 25(OH)D was independently associated with mortality in critical patients with COVID-19.
From comparing the impact dynamic absorber with the impact damper in the auxiliary vibration system with the conventional dynamic absorber, the following conclusions are obtained as follows ; 1. Recognizing that the amplitude restraining effect of the impact dynamic absorber become resonable in a comparison of conventional one development of an improved dynamic absorber may be probable. 2. With increasing the frequency ratio, the 1st resonance peak is higher but the 2nd one gets lower. In addition, the frequency ratio is peak located at the same resonance. 3. The optimum impact clearance is smaller and the vibration constraining effect becomes better with and increase in the mass of impact ball. And it is recognizable that the optimum tuning frequency ratio and impact clearance in an accordance with the mass ratio are varied. 4. The optimum tuning condition becomes gradually lower than the case of r=1 and maximum amplitude becomes lower with an increment in the mass ratio. However, the impulse clearance is larger and the working range of restraining vibration amplitude become smaller with a decrement in the mass of impact ball.
This paper reports the high sensitivity actuator for flexible disk. The air stabilized flexible optical disk has very small axial runout. Therefore, It is proper to develop an actuator which has high sensitivity in tracking direction rather than in focusing direction. In order to maximize driving force in radial direction, we present an efficient design of magnetic circuit with simple multi-polarized magnets and auxiliary magnets. Designed magnetic circuit has big force in tracking direction. And we shift 2$^{nd}$ resonance frequency of moving parts Into high frequency band, not causing increase of mass and discord between force and mass centers to secure high sensitivities and sufficient control bandwidth. Finally, experimental results show that designed actuator has superior sensitivity in tracking direction.
Research on walking assistance exoskeletons that provide optimized torque to individuals has been conducted steadily, and these studies aim to help users feel stable when walking and get help that suits their intentions. Because exoskeleton auxiliary efficiency evaluation is based on metabolic cost savings, experiments on real people are needed to evaluate continuously evolving control algorithms. However, experiments with real people always require risks and high costs. Therefore, in this study, we intend to actively utilize human musculoskeletal simulation. First, to improve the accuracy of musculoskeletal models, we propose a body segment mass distribution algorithm using body composition analysis data that reflects body characteristics. Secondly, the efficiency of most exoskeleton torque control algorithms is evaluated as the reduction rate of Metabolic Cost. In this study, we assume that the torque minimizing the Metabolic Cost is the optimal torque and propose a method for obtaining the torque.
