  • Currently, most automobile companies are interested in research on intelligent autonomous vehicle. They are mainly focused on driver's intelligent assistant and driver replacement. In order to develop an autonomous vehicle, lateral and longitudinal control is necessary. This paper presents a lateral and longitudinal control system for autonomous vehicle that has only mono-vision camera. For lane detection, we present a new lane detection algorithm using clothoid parabolic road model. The proposed algorithm in compared with three other methods such as virtual line method, gradient method and hough transform method, in terms of lane detection ratio. For adaptive control, we apply a vanishing point estimation to fuzzy control. In order to improve handling and stability of the vehicle, the modeling errors between steering angle and predicted vanishing point are controlled to be minimized. So, we established a fuzzy rule of membership functions of inputs (vanishing point and differential vanishing point) and output (steering angle). For simulation, we developed 1/8 size robot (equipped with mono-vision system) of the actual vehicle and tested it in the athletics track of 400 meter. Through the test, we prove that our proposed method outperforms 98 % in terms of detection rate in normal condition. Compared with virtual line method, gradient method and hough transform method, our method also has good performance in the case of clear, fog and rain weather.

  • Various studies have been conducted using microtraffic simulation (VISSIM) to analyze the safety of traffic flow when introducing autonomous vehicles. However, no studies have analyzed traffic safety in mixed traffic while considering the driving behavior of general vehicles as a parameter in VISSIM. Therefore, the aim of this study was to optimize the input variables of VISSIM for non-autonomous vehicles through genetic algorithms to obtain realistic behavior. A traffic safety analysis was then performed according to the penetration rate of autonomous vehicles. In a 640 meter section of US highway I-101, the number of conflicts was analyzed when the trailing vehicle was a non-autonomous vehicle. The total number of conflicts increased until the proportion of autonomous vehicles exceeded 20%, and the number of conflicts decreased continuously after exceeding 20%. The number of conflicts between non-autonomous vehicles and autonomous vehicles increased with proportions of autonomous vehicles of up to 60%. However, there was a limitation in that the driving behavior of autonomous vehicles was based on the results of the literature and did not represent actual driving behavior. Therefore, for a more accurate analysis, future studies should reflect the actual driving behavior of autonomous vehicles.

  • In this paper, decoupled controller design for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle(AUV) and its simulated performance test results and Hardware In the Loop Simulation(HILS) results are presented. Control system design is done using the PD control scheme. Stability analysis and step response of closed loop system under uncertain parameter condition are also presented. The results of full coupled nonlinear model simulation show the well applicability of the designed controller. From the results of HILS, we can verify performance of real time processing and implemented hardware for AUV.

  • Vehicle dynamic states used in various advanced driving safety systems are influenced by road geometry. Among the road geometry information, the vehicle pitch angle influenced by road slope and acceleration-deceleration is essential parameter used in pose estimation including the navigation system, advanced adaptive cruise control and others on sag road. Although the road slope data is essential parameter, the method measuring the parameter is not commercialized. The digital map including the road geometry data and high-precision DGPS system such as DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System) based RTK(Real-Time Kinematics) are used unusually. In this paper, low-cost cascade extended Kalman filter(CEKF) based road slope estimation method is proposed. It use cascade two EKFs. The EKFs use several measured vehicle states such as yaw rate, longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration and wheel speed of the rear tires and 3 D.O.F(Degree Of Freedom) vehicle dynamics model. The performance of proposed estimation algorithm is evaluated by simulation based on Carsim dynamics tool and T-car based experiment.

  • This paper proposes a self-recurrent wavelet neural network(SRWNN) based adaptive backstepping control technique for the robust steering control of autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs) with unknown model uncertainties and external disturbance. The SRWNN, which has the properties such as fast convergence and simple structure, is used as the uncertainty observer of the steering model of AUV. The adaptation laws for the weights of SRWNN and reconstruction error compensator are induced from the Lyapunov stability theorem, which are used for the on-line control of AUV. Finally, simulation results for steering control of an AUV with unknown model uncertainties and external disturbance are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • The path navigation of autonomous guided vehicle(AGV) or autonomous mobile robot(AMR) assumed that the environment was completely known and the obstacles were fixed. So that, in an environment only partly known or not known at all, the previous works were not successful since the path exploration techniques involved in the work were neither directly applicable nor extensible. In order to improve such problems, this paper was adopted the quadtree technique and proposed the algorithm for an optimal path planning autonomously in an environment and proved a validity through a simulation.

  • This paper presents a 3-D localization of an autonomous underwater vehicle(AUV). Conventional methods of localization, such as LBL or SBL, require additional beacon systems, which reduces the flexibility and availability of the AUV We use a digital compass, a pressure sensor, a clinometer and ultrasonic sensors for localization. From the orientation and velocity information, a priori position of the AUV is estimated based on the dead reckoning. With the aid of extended Kalman filter algorithm, a posteriori position of the AUV is estimated by using the distance between the AUV and a mother ship on the surface of the water together with the water depth information from the pressure sensor. Simulation results show the possibility of practical application of the method to autonomous navigation of the AUV.

  • As interest in underwater structures and ocean exploration increases, many researchers are proposing methods for modeling and controlling various remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Recently, hybrid systems composed of an autonomous underwater vehicle and an ROV capable of remote control and autonomous navigation are being developed. In this study we introduce a method that models Ariari-aROV, an ROV consisting of five thrusters, and performs navigation. The proposed ROV can be controlled manually and by autonomous navigation when given a target point. An extended Kalman filter is utilized for sensor measurement correction for more precise navigation. The proposed method is verified through a simulation.

  • Vehicular networks are part of the next generation wireless and smart Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). In the future, autonomous vehicles will be an integral part of ITS and will provide safe and reliable traveling features to the users. The reliability and security of data transmission in vehicular networks has been a challenging task. To manage data transmission in vehicular networks, road networks are divided into clusters and a cluster head is selected to handle the data. The selection of cluster heads is a challenge as vehicles are mobile and their connectivity is dynamically changing. In this paper, a novel secure cluster head selection algorithm is proposed for secure and reliable data sharing. The idea is to use the secrecy rate of each vehicle in the cluster and adaptively select the most secure vehicle as the cluster head. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the reliability and security of the transmission significantly.

  • This paper describes the development and field experiments of Manta-type Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV). Various simulations for Manta UUV are performed by using the nonlinear 6-DOF motion of equations. Through this simulation we verified the motion performances of Manta UUV. To acquire the blueprint of Manta UUV, it was designed with the simulation results. The Manta UUV uses a Doppler Velocity Log (DVL), gyrocompass, GPS, pressure sensor and other minor sensors, applied to measure the motion, position and path of Manta UUV. For its propulsion and changing a direction in the underwater, one vertical fin and four horizontal fins are installed at the hull of UUV. The Manta UUV system was verified with motion and autonomous navigation test at field.
