  • Most of the motorcycle engines have used carburetors in the fuel system, because of its simple structure and reliability but the fuel economy and the emissions of those engines are bad when we compared with automobile engines .To meet with the tighten emission regulations and the higher requirements for fuel economy, the application of the carburetor on the motorcycle engines would be limited. Therefore, it is important to develope a ECU control system for motorcycle engines. Since the fuel injection system is expensive, it is necessary to decrease the cost of ECU system for motorcycle engines, but the accuracy of the ECU control system should be increased as high as possible. In this paper, we studied about the AFS characteristics of motorcycle engine controled by indirect method.

  • In two-stroke engines, methods of evaluating scavenging effciency have been studied in parallel with trials for improvement of scavenging process. But simulating methods have a wide difference with difference with scavenging process in real engines and methods of evaluating scavening efficiency in real engines are very difficult and very expensive. This study shows that there is a possbility of evaluating scavenging efficiency in real engines very easily by analysis of in-cylinder pressure data. And as a characteristics two-stroke engines, the poly tropic indices in the process of compression are varies with degreeof scavenging and good representatives of scavenging efficiency.

  • The performance measurement and evaluation system is required on automotive engines to analyze engine characteristics. In this study, data acquisition is established by installing various sensors of temperature, pressure, gas amount, RPM, Torque,.etc to engines, and the modeling of evaluation system is suggested. Also a data base management system is developed for verifying the quality of automotive parts which effect engine characteristics and the output module is presented to be used as certification sheets in automotive and part manufacturer.

  • Nowadays, many people are trying to develop eco-friendly engines such as the electric motor and the air engine because the I.C. engine cause a lot of pollutants. Nevertheless of these effort, there are few evaluation and comparison of these engines to conventionally used I.C. engines. Because of this, it is difficult to determine that the eco-friendly engines are really energy saving engines. In this paper, the efficiency of the air engine is calculated. The air engine does not cause environmental pollution problem because it uses "Compressed air". Due to the air engine operated at a low temperature and spark-free condition, this engine can be used in extreme condition for safety. Despite the many advantages of the air engine, there are few analysis on the air engine because of an air engine is low energy density.

  • In exhaust pipes of automotive engines, the pulsating pressure waves are composed of fundamental frequency and high order harmonics. The nonlinearities in the exhaust pipe is caused by their interactions. The error between prediction and measurement is induced by the nonlinearities. We can not explain this phenomenon using linear acoustics theory. So power spectrum, which is used in linear theory, is not useful. This paper is concerned with the development of useful engineering techniques to detect and analyze nonlinearity in exhaust pipe of automotive engines. The study of higher order statistics has been dominated by work on the bispectrum. The bispectrum can be viewed as a decomposition of the third moment (skewness) of a signal over frequency and as such is blind to symmetric nonlinearities. The phenomenon of quadratic phase coupling (QPC) can be analyzed by the bicoherence function. Finally the application of these techniques to data from actual exhaust pipe systems is performed.
