Quality monitoring of complex manufacturing systems on the basis of model driven approach

  • Monitoring of complex processes faces several challenges mainly due to the lack of relevant sensory information or insufficient elaborated decision-making strategies. These challenges motivate researchers to adopt complex data processing and analysis in order to improve the process representation. This paper presents the development and implementation of quality monitoring framework based on a model-driven approach using embedded artificial intelligence strategies. In this work, the strategies are applied to the supervision of a microfabrication process aiming at showing the great performance of the framework in a very complex system in the manufacturing sector. The procedure involves two methods for modelling a representative quality variable, such as surface roughness. Firstly, the hybrid incremental modelling strategy is applied. Secondly, a generalized fuzzy clustering c-means method is developed. Finally, a comparative study of the behavior of the two models for predicting a quality indicator, represented by surface roughness of manufactured components, is presented for specific manufacturing process. The manufactured part used in this study is a critical structural aerospace component. In addition, the validation and testing are performed at laboratory and industrial levels, demonstrating proper real-time operation for non-linear processes with relatively fast dynamics. The results of this study are very promising in terms of computational efficiency and transfer of knowledge to manufacturing industry.

기상측정 및 CAM 자동화를 통한 금형 제작 공정 개선 (Improvement of machining process for mold parts using on-machine measuring system and CAM automation)

  • In the CNC machining process, problems such as lowering of machine operation rate, setting errors, and machining precision occur due to the increase in setting time and preparation time. These machining errors cause delays in delivery and increase in cost due to an increase in the number of mounting and dismounting of the workpiece, an increase in measurement and reprocessing time, and an increase in the finishing time in the assembly process. Therefore, in this study, by automating the setting of the work piece using OMV (On Machine Verification), which is a meteorological measurement system, the preparation time for machining the work piece and the setting accuracy were improved, the rework rate was reduced, and the mold manufacturing process was shortened. Through the advancement, standardzation, and automation of the mold part manufacturing process, we have improved productivity by minimizing low-value-added repetitive tasks. In addition, the measurement time was reduced by more than 50% and the machining measurement rate was improved by more than 20%, eliminating repetitive work for correcting machining defects, and reducing the work preparation time by more than 15% through automatic setting.

  • The clothing industry is going through very rapid and innovative automation in almost all processes from the initial design of clothing to the dispatch of the products to the retailer. Educational bodies in teaching clothing and textile techniques should offer courses that enable students to grasp the concepts and potential of automation so that they can confidently cope with further development when they enter the real world of the clothing and textile industry.   • For Shock obsorber piston led is launched to the market through luring, milling, grooving, rolling, inspection and finally packing processes, To this time around 11 items, that is, out diameter and length etc..for the piston lod are inspected strictly as a total inspection. Piston Lod is being produced 30,000 a day and its excessively repeating inspection is getting induce repetition strain injury and reduce production rate as fatigue accumulation of worker increase inspection errors. Therefore, for the inspection process is severely needed a progressive improvement through the automation. In this study, we consider automation method of piston led inspection process and suggest an efficient automation strategy as improving the various problems in present manual inspection way.

  • Workload programming is allocating suitable workloads of production process according to the needs of products, which would minimize the total cost of both work and stock under some constraint conditions. In this paper, a production process flow chart of discrete manufacturing is presented by a Petri net, and the optimization model of workload-stock is established. An approach of the optimal workloads is provided by means of the integer matrix theory. An example is given to verify this method.

  • Demands for automation in the cell production process of IT products are becoming increasingly sophisticated. In particular, the dual-arm robot has drawn attention as a solution because it has a flexibility and works similarly to humans. In this paper, we propose an automation system for cellular phone packing processes using two dual-arm robots. Applied robots are designed with specifications to meet the requirements of cellular phone packing jobs. In addition, a robotic cell production system is proposed by applying a method of task allocation for efficient packing of cellular phones. Specifically, a task is assigned to reduce takt-time and to avoid collision between two robots. Finally, we discuss some experimental results that include the packing job of five unit boxes with seven kinds of accessories.

  • Due to the highly ocmpetitive and volatile manufacturing environment, the field of operation management has received increasing attention in recent years as having strategic importances. This study is about the korean manufacturing strategy and the factory automain levels on the product-process matrixes.   • 인간의 노동을 기술이 대체하는 시대가 도래하고 있다. 제조영역에서 기업의 생산성을 증대시키기 위해 공장자동화(Factory Automation, FA) 및 스마트 팩토리(Smart Factory, SF)를 도입하는 것처럼, 서비스 영역 및 사무업무 영역에서도 RPA(Robotic Process Automation) 도입을 통해 기업의 경쟁력을 강화시키고 있다. 하지만, RPA 자체는 어디까지나 개념일 뿐 특정한 기술과 솔루션을 의미하지는 않으며, 소프트웨어 로봇이나 인공지능 개념을 기반으로 비즈니스 프로세스를 자동화하는 기술들의 새로운 개념이라고 할 수 있다. RPA도입 전후의 가장 큰 차이점은, 인간노동(Human Labor) 중심의 업무수행에서 디지털노동(Digital Labor)으로 사람의 노동력 자체를 대체한다는 것에 있다. 이렇듯 노동에 대한 시대적 개념이 변함에 따라, 미래 변화에 대한 정책적 논의가 필요한 시점이라 사료된다. 본 논문에서는 RPA에 대해 개괄적으로 살펴본 후, 산업동향 및 기술동향, 그리고 RPA 미래방향에 대한 이해를 통해 우리가 준비해야 할 고민에 대해 살펴보고자 한다.

On-line 학습 신경회로망을 이용한 열간 압연하중 예측 (Prediction for Rolling Force in Hot-rolling Mill Using On-line learning Neural Network)

  • In the foe of global competition, the requirements for the continuously increasing productivity, flexibility and quality(dimensional accuracy, mechanical properties and surface properties) have imposed a mai or change on steel manufacturing industries. Indeed, one of the keys to achieve this goal is the automation of the steel-making process using AI(Artificial Intelligence) techniques. The automation of hot rolling process requires the developments of several mathematical models for simulation and quantitative description of the industrial operations involved. In this paper, an on-line training neural network for both long-term teaming and short-term teaming was developed in order to improve the prediction of rolling force in hot rolling mill. This analysis shows that the predicted rolling force is very closed to the actual rolling force, and the thickness error of the strip is considerably reduced.

  • Many of semiconductor manufacturing companies persuit automation of wafer fabrication to improve the yields and quality of their products. Development of real-time control system for wafer fabrication and wafer/cassette automatic transfer-system is the most important part to achieve the purpose. In this paper, SECS protocol proposed by SEMI is briefly reviewed and an implementation method of real-time monitoring and control system is suggested as one of the possible ways for wafer fabrication automation. The system consists of process equipments supporting SECS.
