The speed regulation and fixed point parking control of urban railway ATO considering unknown running resistance (미지의 주행저항을 고려한 도시철도차량 ATO의 속도추종 및 정밀정차 제어)

  • An automatic train operation(ATO) system executes the operation of constant speed travelling and fixed point parking by using microprocessors instead of drivers manual operation. This paper describes the mathematical model for the train considering unknown disturbances which consist of start resistance, travelling resistance, slope resistance, curve resistance, and so on. The speed controller of ATO system is designed by considering the disturbances. The simulation is executed to verify the speed control and fixed point parking performance and to compare its performance with that of a PID-type ATO control system under disturbances. Simulation results show that the control performance of gain scheduled control scheme fur ATO system is better than that of the conventional PID controller.

  • The national subway went under construction in 1971, and after three years of endeavor, Seoul subway line number one opened for traffic in 1974. Line number two went under construction in 1978 and it opened for traffic in 1984. With the use of safety operation for more than 20 years, the life cycle nearly came to an end. Therefore the improvements for the safety operation are unavoidable. The total system should not be affected when the new and conventional systems are overlapped, the system operation is in the initial stage, and it confronts the situation of abnormal operation. However, there is a total lack of experience in construction and improvement for the trains that are in the use of large transport and density headway. In this paper, we propose an improvement method of the subway signalling system using ATO (Automatic Train Operation control scheme) to which the latest Digital ATC is applied, and examine the first application model of ATO system.

  • One of the requirements of metro trains is to stop with precision to ensure that the train can stop precisely at the designated location on the platform. If this is not satisfied, interference with the screen door occurs, causing inconvenience to passengers and delays in operation. In the case of an automatic operated train, the current position is determined by the current speed information of the train, and control is performed by issuing an acceleration/deceleration command. Therefore, accurate control becomes impossible if the error of the speed information is large. In metro railroads, a Precision Stop Marker (PSM) is used to correct the position error, so that the error of stop control can be reduced by correcting the position error at a specific point. On the other hand, because the PSM itself has only position information, it does not compensate for the speed error. This paper proposes a method for performing in-place stop control by estimating the speed with the PSM progress information. The speed can be estimated when the train is operated at a constant deceleration speed, and the target deceleration can be obtained to perform stop control. The feasibility and excellence of the proposed method are shown through a numerical simulation.

  • This paper presents an optimization approach to the configuration of train radio communication network for CBTC. The target specifications of CBTC communication systems are derived from technical requirements for CBTC. The proposed communication system has a ring-topology backbone communication network between stations and a radio network based on IEEE 802.11b wireless tan between trains and wayside devices. The proposed method has been applied to the standardization of the signalling system of urban transits.

  • When the high speed train (KTX) departs from station in the high-speed line, sometimes on board signal disappears, which causes a hindrance of the operation punctuality, therefore, we have a research objective to verify the causes of hindrance and to find an improvement plan. In the process of research, when train left, we applied sand on the rail to improve adhesive power, whose sand has an effect on the ATC(Automatic Train Control) signal wave.   • Urban transit vehicle that uses electrical energy, is faster, safer and energy-efficient public transit than other means. As a Research method, the Matlab/Simulink are used to modeling a regenerative brake-capable train, and actual parameters such as powering and braking characteristics, all kinds of resistance, passenger load, velocity, gradient, radius of curve etc and powering and breaking commands per time or distance are inputted to train's dynamic equation, then a simulation program is made and used to yield train driving pattern and driving time and the amount of driving energy used thereby at auto and manual operation and at all sector.

  • The VAL 208 in Uijeongbu Light Rail system is a light railway vehicle which could be operated in driverless supported by Siemens. It is a Rubber Wheel Type AGT (Automatic Guideway Transit). It will be operated in two car train about 11km of Uijeongbu line. In this paper, the technical overview of the ATC system and the interface between the system and the way side control equipments are presented. It includes the main functions of OBCU(On Board control Unit) and its information sharing method with WCU(Way side control Unit). The testing procedure of OBCU is also discussed.

  • Recently, fuzzy and neural network techniques have been successfully applied to control of complex and ill-defined system in a wide variety of areas, such as robot, water purification, automatic train operation system and automatic container crane operation system, etc. In this paper, we present a neuro-fuzzy controller which unifies both fuzzy logic and multi-layered feedforward neural networks. Fuzzy logic provides a means for converting linguistic control knowledge into control actions. On the other hand, feedforward neural networks provide salient features, such as learning and parallelism. In the proposed neuro-fuzzy controller, the parameters of membership functions in the antecedent part of fuzzy inference rules are identified by using the error backpropagation algorithm as a learning rule, while the coefficients of the linear combination of input variables in the consequent part are determined by using the least square estimation method. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified through computer simulation of an inverted pendulum system.

  • With the growing traffic density and increasing comfort requirements, the automation of the drive train will gain importance in vehicles. The automatic clutch actuation relieves the drivers especially in urban driving and stop-and-go traffic conditions. In this paper, an electro-mechanical actuator for clutch-by-wire (CBW) system is implemented as the first stage for the development of automated manual transmissions. The prototype of CBW actuator is designed systematically, which is composed of the electric motor, worm & worm wheel and crank mechanism. And the test rig is developed to perform the basic function test for the automatic clutch actuation. The developed prototype is validated by the experimental results on the test rig.
