PROTOTYPE AUTOMATIC SYSTEM FOR CONSTRUCTING 3D INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR IMAGE OF BIOLOGICAL OBJECTS

  • Ultrasonic and magnetic resonance imaging systems are used to visualize the interior states of biological objects. These nondestructive methods have many advantages but too much expensive. And they do not give exact color information and may miss some details. If it is allowed to destruct some biological objects to get the interior and exterior information, constructing 3D image from the series of the sliced sectional images gives more useful information with relatively low cost. In this paper, PC based automatic 3D model generator was developed. The system was composed of three modules. One is the object handling and image acquisition module, which feeds and slices objects sequentially and maintains the paraffin cool to be in solid state and captures the sectional image consecutively. The second is the system control and interface module, which controls actuators for feeding, slicing, and image capturing. And the last is the image processing and visualization module, which processes a series of acquired sectional images and generates 3D graphic model. The handling module was composed of the gripper, which grasps and feeds the object and the cutting device, which cuts the object by moving cutting edge forward and backward. Sliced sectional images were acquired and saved in the form of bitmap file. The 3D model was generated to obtain the volumetric information using these 2D sectional image files after being segmented from the background paraffin. Once 3-D model was constructed on the computer, user could manipulate it with various transformation methods such as translation, rotation, scaling including arbitrary sectional view.

  • The Alaska pollack longline operations, which consist of baiting, shooting, hauling and arrangement of hooks, are dependant on manual labour up to the present. The automation against this traditional way is necessary to eliminate the manual operations and to reduce crew. We have developed a prototype longline system suitable for Alaska pollack longline gear, which is composed of an automatic baiting machine, an automatic line hauler, a hook cleaner and storage rails. The automatic bailing machine driven by hydraulic power is precise baiting method controlled sequentially, and the automatic line hauler is to haul up the mainline by means of hydraulic power and at the same time to split every hook and to carry it onto storage rail automatically. A series functioning tests on shooting and hauling apparatus were carried out in the laboratory and at sea. The results obtained are as follows ; 1. As for the baiting machine, the exciting time of solenoid which operates a directional valve, bait feeding and cutting time, is shortened according to the increase of pressure, and also, after cutting the bait, the over-rotated angle of the blade increased in accordance with the increase of pressure. 2. The baiting efficiency is about $90\%$ when using sand lance (Hypoptychus dybowskii), and the most proper pressure of the hydraulic circuit in feeding and cutting the bait is between $13\;kgf/cm^2\;and\;20\;kgf/cm^2$. 3. The hook splitting rate of the automatic line hauler is about $95.5\%$ regardless of hauling speed and materials of snood. 4. The case of unseparating hook is appeared when the snood gets entangled or the hook is sticked in the mainline.

  • Gabion can be used for the purpose of preventing overflow of river and side loss of road. However the manufacturing process of the gabion is manually controlled especially to the joining process at the terminal part of gabion with small diameter wire. In this paper automatic feeding guide system was designed and fabricated to make automation. The fabricated system was tested in the factory level. Pneumatic system was considered as the main idea of the feeding system. 3/2-way and 5/2-way manual control valve, eight double-acting cylinders were used. The system took 46.48 seconds during a cycle. Additional environmental noise and vibration were not detected when the machine operated at the working area. Based on the theoretical simulation and actual test the fabricated system was well controlled. The system was applied to the patent in 2006.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the present status and the levels of mechanization and automation for raising, feeding, water supply, propagation, health management, ventilation and heat control, data analysis, and etc, and to establish the guide of the future study on development of the optimum production system models of swine facility from the results of this analysis. The scheme of the future study on the development of the optimum production system model of swine facility was established as follows : 1. A Korean and environmental control type slatted windowless swine housing model would be developed according to the following basis : \circled1 Boars, gilts and sows, delivery sows should be raised individually and piglets, growing pigs, and finishing pigs should be raised in group. \circled2 The arrangement of furrowing house were two rows of furrowing crates facing the center aisle. 2. The environmental control system and waste management system that are suitable to Korean and environmental control type slatted windowless swine housing model would be developed. 3. An electronic identification device would be developed. 4. The automatic individual wet feeding system by electronic identification device and computers would be developed. 5. The individual management system would be developed, which could manage individually the breeding pigs by the electronic identification device. 6. An expert system would be developed, which could manage the health and data base of pigs.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of different milking systems (AMS, automatic milking system and CMS, conventional milking system) and of supplemental fat feeding on milk composition and milk fat characteristics. The composition, MFG (milk fat globule) size, fatty acids (FAs), and free fatty acids (FFAs) of the milk from 4 AMS and 4 CMS dairy farms were analyzed on the basis of the milking system and feeding of protected fat. The milking system did not affect milk composition, MFG size, and milk FAs, but FFA content of AMS milk were significantly higher than that of CMS milk. Feeding of protected fat resulted in the production of milk much higher in LCFAs (long chain FAs); however, the milk composition was not affected by fat supplementation. Cows administered protected fat supplements produced milk containing MFGs with a large average diameter.

Development of an Automatic Seeding System Using Machine Vision for Seed Line-up of Cucurbitaceous Vegetables (기계시각을 이용한 박과채소 종자 정렬파종시스템 개발)

  • Most of the seeds of cucurbitaceous rootstock species used for grafting were mainly sown by hand. This study was carried out to develop an on-line discriminating algorithm of seed direction using machine vision and an automatic seeding system. The seeding system was composed of a supplying device, feeding device, machine vision system, reversing device, seeding device and system control section. Machine vision was composed of a color CCD camera, frame grabber, image inspection chamber, lighting and personal computer. The seed image was segmented into a region of seed part and background part using thresholding technique in which H value of HSI color coordinate system. A seed direction was discriminated by comparing position between the center of circumscribed rectangle to a seed and the center of seed image. It took about 49ms to identify and redirect seed. Line-up status of seed was good the more than 95% of a sowed seed. Seeding capacity of this system was shown to be 10,140 grains per hour, which is three times faster than that of a typical worker.

  • In this study, the authors introduce a newly developed flatfish grading system. Owing to the features of flatfish with and wide body, the general types of grading system are not easy to apply for it. Furthermore, the flatfish to be graded is alive such that the existing measurement and grading systems cannot be used for it as well. This study gives a solution for measuring and grading the flatfish with high speed and good accuracy. For this object, the authors developed flatfish measurement and grading system. This system consist of the feeding, conveying, measurement part and sorting part. Especially, the measurement part is made by vision based measuring technique which satisfies the given specification. The result from the experiment shows that the developed system is applicable for measuring and grading the flatfish sizes in variety.

Development of Automatic Sorting System for Green pepper Using Machine Vision (기계시각에 의한 풋고추 자동 선별시스템 개발)

  • Production of green pepper has been increased due to customer's preference and a projected ten-year boom in the industry in Korea. This study was carried out to develop an automatic grading and sorting system for green pepper using machine vision. The system consisted of a feeding mechanism, segregation section, an image inspection chamber, image processing section, system control section, grading section, and discharging section. Green peppers were separated and transported using a bowl feeder with a vibrator and a belt conveyor, respectively. Images were taken using color CCD cameras and a color frame grabber. An on-line grading algorithm was developed using Visual C/C++. The green peppers could be graded into four classes by activating air nozzles located at the discharging section. Length and curvature of each green pepper were measured while removing a stem of it. The first derivative of thickness profile was used to remove a stem area of segmented image of the pepper. While pepper is moving at 0.45 m/s, the accuracy of grading sorting for large, medium and small pepper are 86.0%, 81.3% and 90.6% respectively. Sorting performance was 121 kg/hour, and about five times better than manual sorting. The developed system was also economically feasible to grade and sort green peppers showing the cost about 40% lower than that of manual operations.

The Development Measuring System of Temperature Effect to Produce Electric Power of Solar Cell

  • This paper focuses on a temperature effects on a PV panel which has been installed in Thailand. The main objective is cleaning PV panels and reduce temperature of PV panel by water injects from waterway and experimental results of PV power what it is difference. This project is designed by PLC control system which water injects and control PV temperature, In addition, this project consists of hardware and software such as water pump, water injection and PLC control has been automatically and it can be control system manually. The automatic control system is working when PV temperature rises up over 45 degree Celsius after that the pumping machine would inject water to the surface of PV panels and it must be stop when the PV panel temperature comes down less than 45 degree Celsius. The result of actual experimental found that the control system has been done correctly under specify condition. The experimental has been shown electrical data before and after water injects on PV system found that the electrical power a bit increases and The energy has been taken from PV panel less than energy consumption equipment of control system which taken to operate the water injecting system.
