  • Barcodes have been widely used to implement automatic identification systems but there are various problems such as security weakness or distance restriction in scanning barcode signals in a barcode-based automatic identifcation systems. Recently researchers are gradually interested in radio frequency identification (RFID) and RFID systems have been applied to various fields than before. Especially one of RFID application fields, a bank system uses RFID tagged bankontes to prevent illegal transactions such as counterfeiting banknotes and money laundering. In this paper, we propose a RFID system for protecting location provacy of a banknote holder. In addition, our paper describes that a trust party can trace a counterfeit banknote holder to provide against emergencies.

Ocean Fog Detection Alarm System for Safe Ship Navigation (선박 안전항해를 위한 해무감지 경보 시스템)

  • Recently, amid active research on domestic shipbuilding industry and IT convergence technology, with the development of satellite detection technology for ship safety operation, ships monitored the movement of ships with the mandatory long-range identification & tracking of vessels and automatic identification system. It is possible to help safe navigation, but it is necessary to develop safety device that alert the marine officer who rely on radar to correct conditions in case of weightlessness. Therefore, an ocean fog alarm system was developed to detect and inform using photo sensors. The fabricated ocean fog detect and alarm system consists of a small, low-power optical sensor transceiver and data sensing processing module. Through experiment, it is confirmed that the fabricated ocean fog detect and alarm system measure the corresponding concentration of ocean fog for fogless circumstance and fogbound circumstance, respectively. Furthermore, the fabricated system can control RPM of ship engine according to the concentration of ocean fog, and consequently, the fabricated system can be applied to assistant device for ship safety operation.

  • This study to embody automatic recognition of VIN(Vehicle Identification Number)character by computer vision system. Automatic recognition characters methods consist of the thining processing and the recognition of each character. VIN character and background classified using counting method of the size of connected pixels. Thining processing applied to segmentation of connected fundamental phonemes by Hilditch's algorithm. Each VIN character contours tracing algorithm used the Freeman's direction tracing algorithm.

  • In Korea, a need of automatic dairy farm management system has been increased to lower production cost and to strengthen international competition. However, the present management system was mostly relied on foreign technologies and caused some problems in post management and after-sales services. Therefore, though there is a problem of price and quality at present, domestic technologies of the management system should be developed for the long run. This study was conducted to develop an electronic identification unit for an automatic dairy farm management system. The developed system was consisted of a tag, a reader, a switching circuit, and a personal computer. The tag attachable to each individual cow was developed to transmit individual radio frequency(RF) code into the air with modulation of ASK(amplitude shift keying). And the switching circuit was added to avoid confusion on reception and transmittance. The reader attached to a feeding device was developed to transmit activating signal periodically and to identify code of the individual tag when the tag was approached to the device. The reader was consisted of an active filter, a detecter, a comparator and a microcontroller. The test result was feasible enough to apply it for the automatic farm management system and the identified maximum distance was about 37cm.

Vessel Detection Using Satellite SAR Images and AIS Data (위성 SAR 영상과 AIS을 활용한 선박 탐지)

  • We demonstrate the preliminary results of ship detection application using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and automatic identification system (AIS) together. Multi-frequency and multi-temporal SAR images such as TerraSAR-X and Cosmo-SkyMed (X-band), and Radarsat-2 (C-band) are acquired over the West Sea in South Korea. In order to compare with SAR data, we also collected an AIS data. The SAR data are pre-processed considering by the characteristics of scattering mechanism as for sea surface. We proposed the "Adaptive Threshold Algorithm" for classification ship efficiently. The analyses using the combination of the SAR and AIS data with time series will be very useful to ship detection or tracing of the ship.

  • AIS(Automatic Identification System) is an vessel traffic management system which exchanges vessel data with other nearby ships, AIS base stations using VHF band. A domestic AIS base station is located along coast lines or island. So it is difficult to collect vessel data from the ocean. To solve this problem, we adopted AIS payload on the low earth orbit satellite. The AIS payload on the satellite is interfaced with OBC(On-Board Computer) via UART and the FSW(Satellite Flight Software) manages it. The FSW have to receive AIS command from ground station and forward to AIS payload. Similarly FSW have to receive response, OBP, OGP data from AIS payload and it is downlink to the ground station. So in this paper we describe the FSW design & implementation for AIS payload.

  • The Automatic Identification System (AIS) will provide valuable navigational information to the coastal passenger ship to which RADAR did not cover until now. 112 skippers of coastal passenger ship who are using AIS plotter responded that the AIS is very useful to their safety and they are using the AIS effectively regardless of number of seafarers, ship's speed and navigation time. It is required that all coastal ships should install the AIS to improve the safety navigation in the coastal navigation area.

  • AIS(Automatic Identification System), was suggested for the navigational data communication between ships and between ships and shore stations for the better safety of navigation, and it requires two different the transmitting output power level depending on its operating mode. According to ITU's recommendation, these levels should reach within 20 % of its final value in 1 ms. In this paper, an adequate feedback control circuit for power amplifier module is designed and implemented.

  • As a sense of practical field, most researchers emphasize the importance of safety management to prevent marine accidents. The purpose of this paper is to develope a new safety evaluation method using Safety Index (SI) which is to measure the emotional feeling of navigation officer by traffic situations. In this study, the questionnaires with SI are used to investigate the degree of sensing levels of navigation officers according to the navigation situations. In addition, the traffic data obtained from AIS (Automatic Identification System) data are used to give actual situations in the questionnaire investigation. As results of questionaries investigations based upon the AIS data, it is shown that the Safety Index can be used as a criterion to determine the safety levels of ship navigating in a coastal areas.

  • AIS(Automatic Identification System) is a radionavigation equipment for exchanging safety related information between ships as well as ship and shore station, introduced by SOLAS convention and widely used especially in vessel traffic service. However, in an area of broad communication coverage of coast station, various problems may appear in receiving AIS data from ships. In this paper, AIS problems that may happen in broad communication coverage of coast station are analyzed using received data.
