A new algorithm for automatic extraction of interesting objects is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm can be summarized in two steps. First, segmentation of color image that split interesting objects and backgrounds is performed. According to the research stating, 'Humans perceive things by contracting color into three to four essential colors,' a color image is segmented into three regions utilizing k-mean algorithm, followed by annexing the regions when the similarities of them exceeds the critical value based on the calculation of degrees in the histogram similarity, Second, identifying the interesting objects out of the segmented image, partitioned by the image composition theory, is performed. To have a good picture, it is important to adjust positions of interesting objects according to picture composition. Extracting objects is a retro-deduction process using a weighted mask designed upon the triangular composition of picture. To prove the quality of the proposed method, experiments are performed over four hundreds images as well as comparison with recently proposed KMCC and GBIS methods.
In this paper, automatic structure boundary extraction is proposed using terrestrial LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) in 3-dimensional data. This paper describes an algorithm which does not use pictures and pre-processing. In this algorithm, an efficient decimation method is proposed, considering the size of object, the amount of LIDAR data, etc. From these decimated data, object points and non-object points are distinguished using distance information which is a major features of LIDAR. After that, large and small values are extracted using local variations, which can be candidate for boundary. Finally, a boundary line is drawn based on the boundary point candidates. In this way, the approximate boundary of the object is extracted.

For the economic management of photovoltaic power plants, it is necessary to regularly monitor the panels within the plants to detect malfunctions. Thermal infrared image cameras are generally used for monitoring, since malfunctioning panels emit higher temperatures compared to those that are functioning. Recently, technologies that observe photovoltaic arrays by mounting thermal infrared cameras on UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) are being developed for the efficient monitoring of large-scale photovoltaic power plants. However, the technologies developed until now have had the shortcomings of having to analyze the images manually to detect malfunctioning panels, which is time-consuming. In this paper, we propose an automatic photovoltaic panel area extraction algorithm for thermal infrared images acquired via a UAV. In the thermal infrared images, panel boundaries are presented as obvious linear features, and the panels are regularly arranged. Therefore, we exaggerate the linear features with a vertical and horizontal filtering algorithm, and apply a modified hierarchical histogram clustering method to extract candidates of panel boundaries. Among the candidates, initial panel areas are extracted by exclusion editing with the results of the photovoltaic array area detection. In this step, thresholding and image morphological algorithms are applied. Finally, panel areas are refined with the geometry of the surrounding panels. The accuracy of the results is evaluated quantitatively by manually digitized data, and a mean completeness of 95.0%, a mean correctness of 96.9%, and mean quality of 92.1 percent are obtained with the proposed algorithm.

Satellite image mosaicking is essential for image interpretation and analysis especially for a large area such as the Korean Peninsula. This paper proposed the technique of automatic seam-line extraction and the method of creating image mosaic in automated fashion. The seam-line to minimize artificial discontinuity was extracted using Minimum Absolute Gray Difference Sum algorithm with constraint condition on search-area width and Canny Edge Detection algorithm. To maintain the radiometric balance among images acquired at different time epochs, we utilized Match Cumulative Frequency method. Experimental results showed that edge detection algorithm extracted the seam-lines significantly well along linear features such as roads and rivers.

Most recently issued paper money includes security patterns that can be only identified by ultra violet (UV) illuminations. We propose an automatic extraction method of UV patterns for paper money inspection systems. The image acquired by camera and UV illumination is transformed to input data through preprocessing. And then, the Gaussian mixture model (GMM) and split-and-merge expectation maximization (SMEM) algorithm are applied to segment the image represented by input data. In order to extract the UV pattern from the segmented image, we develop a criterion using the area of covariance vector and the weight value. The experimental results on various paper money are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed method.

In this paper, we proposed a automatic extraction method as a preprocessing stage for extraction of basic insect footprint segments. In general, sizes and strides of footprints may be different according to type and size of an insect for recognition. Therefore we proposed an improved algorithm for extraction of basic insect footprint segments regardless of size and stride of footprint pattern. In the proposed algorithm, threshold value for clustering is determined automatically using contour shape of the graph created by accumulating distances between all the spots of footprint pattern. In the experimental results applying the proposed method, The basic footprint segments should be extracted from a whole insect footprint image using significant information in order to find out appropriate features for classification.
In this paper, we proposed the microcalcification detection algorithm which is based on wavelet transform and automatic thresholding method in the X-ray mammographic images. Digital X-ray imaging system is essential equipment in the field diagnosis and is widely used in the various fields such as chest, fracture of a bone, and dental correction. Especially, digital X-ray mammographic imaging is known as the most important method to diagnose the breast cancer, many researches to develop the imaging system are processing in country. In this paper, we proposed a microcalcifications detection algorithm necessary in the early phase of breast cancer diagnosis and showed that a algorithm could effectively detect microcalfication and could aid diagnosis-radiologist.
In our study, the automatic tracking algorithm of a human face is proposed by utilizing the thermal properties and 2nd momented geometrical feature of an infrared image. First, the facial candidates are estimated by restricting the certain range of thermal values, and the spurious blobs cleaning algorithm is applied to track the refined facial region in an infrared image.
Most of the Automatic Fingerprint Identification Systems define the ridge endings and bifurcation points as the minutia for matching. Therefore, the precise extraction of the minutia is critical in raising the efficiency and reliability of the system. The fingerprint images produced through the preprocessing may have the false minutia happened over the process and they can be the factors to decrease the system efficiency This paper suggests the algorithm, which removes the false minutia after extracting the candidate minutia from the thinned binary images of fingerprint images.

As first step of any acoustic defence system, a attacking target warning system needs to be extremely reliable. This means the system must ensure a high probability of target classification together with a very low false alarm rate. In this paper, a algorithms for underwater target automatic classification is available for use in the passive sonar will be presented. In first, we will describe the precise automatic extraction of frequency lines for the detection of acoustic signatures. Also, a neural network and fuzzy based algorithms for target classification will be described. Thus the performances of these algorithms are very good with a high probability of classification.
