The aim of this study was to assess the oral health knowledge, attitude and behavior among geriatric care workers in long-term care facilities. A self-administered questionnaire was obtained from 212 geriatric care workers attending a professional education program of 2014 dementia pilot project. The questionnaire consisted of 4 parts of the training experience (2 items), knowledge (16 items), attitude (13 items), and behavior (4 items) on oral health care. Collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis, independent t-test, and one-way ANOVA using SPSS Statistics ver. 20.0. The percentage of educational experience on oral care was 27.9% and most respondents answered that they have received the education about denture cleaning (98.3%) and brushing method (91.4%). The average knowledge score was $10.88{\pm}1.70$, and respondents showed high-level agreement in 8 of the 10 items in attitude questions. They revealed difficulties in providing oral care to the elderly people because of their lack of knowledge. The deficiencies of knowledge about oral care would have a decisive effect on not only oral and general health, but also quality of life of the elderly people. Therefore, it is required to develop professional oral care training programs for geriatric care workers and support systems should be legalized.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how environment-friendly activities through nature affects attitude of children. 5-6 years old children were targeted for study from March to December, 2014. Rapid changes of modern society made increase of female workers and their participation rates in economic activity which results children to play more time with artificial toys and media. The purpose of this study is to investigate attitude factor related to hearing conservation and to find attitude affecting the preventive behavior for hearing conservation. The research method used in this study was self-administered questionnaire. Samples of the study were composed of 353 workers exposed noise selected randomly in 10 ship-building manufacturing companies. Authors extracted following 9 factors related hearing conservation from 26 attitude propositions prepared from previous study results and health belief model; (1) general perceived susceptibility, (2) relative perceived susceptibility compared with colleagues, (3) concern to the personal protective devices, (4) perceived severity and concern to the hearing capacity, (5) concern to the hearing and noise assessment, (6) concern to the control noise and hearing conservation, (7) group pressure and reason of wearing protective devices, (8) apathy of hearing loss from noise, (9) knowledge about hearing conservation. Attitude factors affecting the preventive health behavior were general perceived susceptibility, concern to the noise control and hearing conservation, and concern to the personal protective devices in the case of wearing personal protective devices. But in the case of avoiding noise exposure as preventive health behavior, perceived severity and concern to the hearing capacity was a significant attitude factor with knowledge about hearing conservation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting health promotion behavior among workers with high risk of metabolic syndrome. This study was based on the planned behavior theory. Methods: The participants were 167 workers at high risk of metabolic syndrome. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Surveyed variables were attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, intention, and health promotion behavior. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 22.0. Results: Perceived behavioral control affected the intention of health promotion behavior among the workers with high risk of metabolic syndrome. It explained 62% of variance in the intention of health promotion behavior (F=40.09, p<.001). Perceived behavioral control and occupation affected health promotion behavior among the risk workers with high risk of metabolic syndrome. The two factors explained 16% of variance in health promotion behavior (F=4.95, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that perceived behavioral control is the only factor affecting health promotion behavior when the theory of planned behavior was applied. Therefore, intervention programs for improving health promotion behavior should be focused on strengthening perceived behavioral control.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of job-related characteristics on alcohol consumption among female workers. The Data was collected from a sample of 1,000 female workers by a stratified proportional quota sampling method derived from those who were working in Seoul. Drinking behavior pattern includes total amount of pure alcohol consumed during the last month (AC) measured by graduated quantity-frequency. Job-related characteristics (JRC) were measured by job-related stress, work characteristics, and organizational structure including length of working hours, number of times dining out together with workers per year, number of staff to supervise, employment status, occupational category, and proportion of female workers to male counterpart. Confounding variables include sociodemogrphic and socio-cultural attitudes toward alcohol expectancy, subjective norm of drinking, and gender-role attitude. Hierarchical multiple regression models show that the variability of AC was accounted for by some JRC including number of times dining together and employment status, with confounding variables held constant. However, the relationship between AC and JRC varied across occupational categories. Some implications were discussed in terms of health policy for female workers and further study for female drinking behavior.

Objectives: This study was established to ascertain the requirements and implementation of core competencies for employees of the a workers' health center. Methods: The study consisted of a four-step process: a literature review, focus group interviews, expert opinions, and a questionnaire. The survey was conducted online among 119 employees of the National Workers' Health Center. Results: As a result of the research, eleven core competencies and 37 sub-competencies were derived in three areas: Competence as a social worker, competence to perform duties, and competence for maintaining expertise. The key demands for core competencies were "health consultation" and "understanding of small businesses.". They responded that they needed to "maintain an ethical attitude" and "consult on workers' health.". The largest score difference between core competency requirements and competency implementation was "collaboration with the community.". Conclusions: It is necessary to increase competencies not only for competencies with high core requirements, but also for relatively low competencies. In addition, efforts should be made to improve the core competencies of the employees of the Workers' Health Center to effectively respond to changes in the industrial structure and crises such as COVID-19.
The construction environment has been declared as a hazard prone area due to high number of accident and death. The study aims to identify influential factors that contribute to poor safety practices and its consequences on construction workers in Cape Coast Metropolis. Seventy respondents were taken as the sample size for the study. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data obtained from the field. Findings show that poor site management, working without safety gadgets, failure to use their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and negligence of workers were the main causes of accidents on sites. Poor site management had the highest ranking among the seven variables. Effects of poor safety practices on building construction site and delays in work execution were due to injury of workers, extra cost due to payment of compensation to injured victims, not motivated due to injury of worker and declined reputation of firm. Management team should motivate workers for safe work done, provide adequate PPE for their workers on site and have documented health and safety policy on site. Site authorities and management team should be on site regularly to ensure proper safety practices on construction site.
Purpose: This descriptive study is aimed at identifying how nursing hospital workers' performance of end-of-life care is influenced by their knowledge and awareness of hospice palliative care, attitude towards end-of-life care, performance, importance, awareness of death and the factors. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was used to collect data from 113 workers at an accredited nursing hospital in K province. Variables were their knowledge and awareness of hospice palliative care, attitude towards end-of-life care, end-of-life care performance and importance and awareness of death. An analysis was performed with the frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression using IBM SPSS 21.0. Results: The factors affecting the nursing hospital workers' end-of-life care performance were the importance of end-of-life care and their marital status, which showed an explanatory power of 38.2%. Conclusion: In order to improve the nursing hospital workers' end-of-life care performance, a training on the importance of end-of-life care should be provided. Therefore, we would like to propose establishing administrative measures such as 1) efficient staffing to help the caregivers better perform what they think is important, 2) development of a training program that can improve their performance of end-of-life nursing care and 3) a study to verify the effectiveness of the program.
The purpose of this study was to be useful in working out plans for improving national health by identifying public workers' knowledge of and attitude to smoking, actual conditions of smoking within nonsmoking areas, and related factors. For the purpose, the questionnaire was carried out with 761 public officials of the division manager-level and lower working in Taegu Metropolitan City Hall in september, 1998. The results are summarized as follows; Smokers of the subject group accounted for 55.1%, and the smoking rate had a significant relation with age and religion. In view of the time when smokers started smoking, smokers who started smoking after graduation from a high school accounted for 70.6%. Smokers who smoke one pack of cigarettes per day and a cigarette to its two-thirds length was the most. In the smoking place of smokers at home, 54.9% of the smokers responded that they smoke in an outdoor space The rate of smoking in an office was 68.3% and the rate of smoking within the nonsmoking areas of other public institutions was 43.0%. The results of multiple regression analysis with the actual state of smoking within the nonsmoking area of other public institutions as an independent variable revealed that smokers who check for a nonsmoking area before smoking in the public institutions and who do not smoke in an office do not smoke within the nonsmoking areas of other public institutions. In conclusion, more smoking and health education for public workers is needed to reduce the rate of national smoking and allow people to have a good smoking attitude, and it is required to arrange an institutional system who can strictly control public workers' smoking in their offices or public places and to stress a function of surveillance and monitoring by nonsmokers.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of the health information system on the productivity and behavioral aspects of health workers as well as quality of services to the visitors using the Vaccination room at the Kwon Sun Ku health center located in Suwon city as a study subject. Three survery were conducted to measure the changes in productivity and adoptation process(knowledge, attitude, activity, and satisfaction) of health workers over time during the period of 20 months. In addition, the effects of the information system on the quality of services to the visitors were also masured 7 months after the 3rd survey by comparing the quality of services between the study health center and the similar health center as a control group. The following results were obtained. First, productivity of health workers has improved over time as they became familiar with the system. Second, knowlege and activity did not significantly changed, but attitude score unexpectly decreased in the second survey. This may be due to an effect of intensive training prior to the first survery. Third, quality of services for the study center was better than other health center. While the health information system had positive effects on the productivity as well as the adoptation process, there are several limitations to establish a causal effect relationship between the two variables. For example, the system has kept modified since its development to meet the changing needs of the workers, and this may affect the productivity more than the adoptation process. Furthermore, since the study subject was only one health oenter, it lacks representativeness to generalize the study findings. Therefore, more health centers should be included in the study to solve such problems in the future.
