One-layer solar radiation(GWNU; Gangneung-Wonju National University) model is developed in order to resolve the lack of vertical observations and fast calculation with high resolution. GWNU model is based on IQBAL(Iqbal, 1983) and NREL(National Renewable Energy Laboratory) methods and corrected by precise multi-layer LBL(Line-by-line) model. Input data were used 42 atmospheric profiles from Garand et al.(2001) for calculation of global radiation by the Multi-layer and one-layer solar radiation models. GWNU model has error of about -0.10% compared with LBL model while IQBAL and NREL models have errors of about -3.92 and -2.57%, respectively. Global solar radiation was calculated by corrected GWNU solar model with satellites(MODIS, OMI and MTSAT-1R), RDPS model prediction data in Korea peninsula in 2009, and the results were compared to surface solar radiation observed by 22 KMA solar sites. All models have correlation($R^2$) of 0.91 with the observed hourly solar radiation, and root mean square errors of IQBAL, NREL and GWNU models are 69.16, 69.74 and $67.53W/m^2$, respectively.
We will calculate concentration of air pollutants using ISCST3, FDM and AERMOD of models recommended in U. S. EPA which are able to predict concentration of short term for point source, complex like industrial complex, power plant and burn-up institution. Before executing model, as analyzing computational result of many cases according to selecting of input data, we will increasing predictable ability of model in limit range of model. Especially, we analyzed three cases-case of considering various emission rate according to time scale and not, case considering effect of atmospheric pollution materials removed by physical process. In our study, after comparing and analyzing results of three model, we choose the atmospheric dispersion model reflected well the characteristic of the area. And we will investigate how large the complex pollutant sources such as industrial complex contribute to atmospheric environment and air quality of the surrounding the area as predicting and estimating chosen model.

Over the last two decades, air quality models have been developed and used in the United States. Many of these models ate distributed as parts of UNAMAP. These models have been used as useful tools for urban air quality management in Korea. However, when we use these models, many problems could be occured because of their different topographical and meteorological conditions. In the present study it is described that the characteristics about developement of the local scale diffusion models for application to Korea. Also for evaluation purpose of the models, input data requirements such as air pollutant concentrations, emission inventory, meteorological data, and field experiment data, were discussed.
The impacts of ice clouds on the energy budget of the Earth and their representation in climate models have been identified as important and unsolved problems. Ice clouds consist almost exclusively of non-spherical ice crystals with various shapes and sizes. To determine the influences of ice clouds on solar and infrared radiation as required for remote sensing retrievals and numerical models, knowledge of scattering and microphysical properties of ice crystals is required. A conventional method for representing the radiative properties of ice clouds in satellite retrieval algorithms and numerical models is to combine measured microphysical properties of ice crystals from field campaigns and pre-calculated single-scattering libraries of different shapes and sizes of ice crystals, which depend heavily on microphysical and scattering properties of ice crystals. However, large discrepancies between theoretical calculations and observations of the radiative properties of ice clouds have been reported. Electron microscopy images of ice crystals grown in laboratories and captured by balloons show varying degrees of complex morphologies in sub-micron (e.g., surface roughness) and super-micron (e.g., inhomogeneous internal and external structures) scales that may cause these discrepancies. In this study, the current idealized models representing morphologies of ice crystals and the corresponding numerical methods (e.g., geometric optics, discrete dipole approximation, T-matrix, etc.) to calculate the single-scattering properties of ice crystals are reviewed. Current problems and difficulties in the calculations of the single-scattering properties of atmospheric ice crystals are addressed in terms of cloud microphysics. Future directions to develop physically consistent ice-crystal models are also discussed.

In this study, neural network models (NNMs) were examined as alternatives to dispersion models in predicting the short-term $SO_2$ concentrations in a coastal area because the performances of dispersion models in coastal areas have been found to be unsatisfactory. The NNMs were constructed for various combinations of averaging time and prediction time in advance by using the historical data of meteorological parameters and $SO_2$ concentrations in 2002 in the coastal area of Boryeung, Korea. The NNMs were able to make much more accurate predictions of 1 hr $SO_2$ concentrations at ground level in the morning in coastal area than the atmospheric dispersion models such as fumigation models, ADMS3 and ISCST3 for identical conditions of atmospheric stability, area, and weather. Even when predictions of 24-h $SO_2$ concentrations were made 24 hours in advance, the predictions and measurements were in good accordance(correlation coefficient=0.65 for n=216). This accordance level could be improved by appropriate expansion of training parameters. Thus it may be concluded that the NNMs can be successfully used to predict short-term ground level concentrations averaged over time less than 24 hours even in complex terrain. The prediction performance of ANN models tends to improve as the prediction lagging time approaches the concentration averaging time, but to become worse as the lagging time departs from the averaging time.

The ozone concentration is one of the important environmental issue for measurement of the atmospheric condition of the country. In this article, two time series ARE models, the direct ARE model and applied ARE model have been considered for analyzing the ozone data at southern part of the Gyeonggi-Do, Pyeongtaek, Osan and Suwon monitoring sites in Korea. The result shows that the direct ARE model is better suited for describing the ozone concentration in all three sites. In both of the ARE models, eight meteorological variables and four pollution variables are used as the explanatory variables. Also the high level of ozone data (over 80 ppb) have been analyzed at the Pyeongtaek, Osan and Suwon monitoring sites.

This study compares the summer monsoon circulations during a heavy rainfall period over the Korean peninsular from 11 to 18 July 2004, simulated by three widely used regional models; WRF, MM5, and RSM. An identical model setup is carried out for all the experiments, except for the physical option differences in the RSM. The three models with a nominal resolution of about 50 km over Korea are nested by NCEP-DOE reanalysis data. Another RSM experiment with the same cumulus parameterization scheme as in the WRF and MM5 is designed to investigate the importance of the representation of subgrid-scale parameterized convection in reproducing monsoonal circulations in East Asia. All thee models are found to be capable of reproducing the general distribution of monsoonal precipitation, extending northeastward from south China across the Korean peninsula, to northern Japan. The results from the WRF and MM5 are similar in terms of accumulated precipitation, but a slightly better performance in the WRF than in the MM5. The RSM improves the bias for precipitation as compared to those from the WRF and MM5, but the pattern correlation is degraded due to overestimation of precipitation in northern China. In the comparison of simulated synoptic scale features, the RSM is found to reproduce the large-scale features well compared to the results from the MM5 and WRF. On the other hand, the simulated precipitation from the RSM with the convection scheme used in the MM5 and WRF is closer to that from the WRF and MM5 simulations, indicating the significant dependency of simulated precipitation in East Asia on the cumulus parameterization scheme.
The performance of the $k-{\varepsilon}$ and $k-{\omega}$ two-equation turbulence models was investigated in computational simulations of the neutrally stratified atmospheric boundary layer developing above various terrain types. This was achieved by using a proposed methodology that mimics the experimental setup in the boundary layer wind tunnel and accounts for a decrease in turbulence parameters with height, as observed in the atmosphere. An important feature of this approach is pressure regulation along the computational domain that is additionally supported by the nearly constant turbulent kinetic energy to Reynolds shear stress ratio at all heights. In addition to the mean velocity and turbulent kinetic energy commonly simulated in previous relevant studies, this approach focuses on the appropriate prediction of Reynolds shear stress as well. The computational results agree very well with experimental results. In particular, the difference between the calculated and measured mean velocity, turbulent kinetic energy and Reynolds shear stress profiles is less than ${\pm}10%$ in most parts of the computational domain.
The flow of non-rotation atmosphere with uniform stratification and wind past an isolated three dimensional topography obstacle is investigated with three-dimensional hydrostatic and non- hydrostatic numerical model. The characteristic of turbulence created the back of topography obstacle is usually defined by Froude number which is the function of upstream wind speed, the height of topography obstacle, and atmospheric stability. Turbulence tends to be formed more easily at the non-hydrostatic model than hydrostatic model. Especially, the difference between flow patterns of two models generated by isolated obstacle is more clear under low Froude number. The difference of flow patterns can be only seen at relatively low altitude, but at high altitude the patterns of two models are almost same. In this research, wind velocity in the parameters related with Froude number have great sensitivity at responsibility of numerical models. and slop of obstacle is also important factor at the flow pattern regardless of the species of numerical model
For the efficient control of atmospheric quality, it is so important to predict the influence accurately of which the air pollutant emitted into the atmosphere. Atmospheric dispersion model enables to simulate and grasp the atmospheric condition occurred due to the emission of pollutants. The result of model is largely affected by the amount of emission, the characteristics of physical and chemical process, meteorological input data, and the receptor which the concentration is calculated. The aim of this research, therefore, is to suggest more suitable model in Pusan area than other areas by performing TCM2, CDM2.0 and ISCLT2 models. As the basic work for executing the model, we computed the amount of emission of air pollutants in Pusan at 1992 and analyzed the occurrence frequency of atmospheric stability for recent decade(1985~19941, CDM2.0 showed the similar result relatively with observed value in the case of full year(1992), fall and winter, and ISCLT2 brought more suitable result in spring for Pusan area. As the result of this research, in future, it is necessary for us to develop the numerical model considering the topographical characteristics, to select the proper observation site and to increase the observation site for Pusan.
