This study reports the high-temperature oxidation kinetics, ASR(area specific resistance), and interfacial microstructure of metallic interconnects coated with conductive oxides in oxidation atmosphere at $800^{\circ}C$, The conductive material LSC($La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}CoO_3$, prepared by Solid State Reaction) was coated on the Crofer22APU. The contact behavior of coating layer/metal substrate was increased by sandblast. The electrical conductivity of the LSC coated Crpfer22APU was measured by a DC two probe four wire method for 4000hr, in air at $800^{\circ}C$. Microstructure and composition of the coated layer interface were investigated by SEM/EDS. These results show that a coated LSC layer prevents the formation and growth of oxide scale such as $Cr_2O_3$ and enhances the long-term stability and electrical performance of metallic interconnects for SOFCs.
Carbon-coated $Li_2MnSiO_4$ powders as the active materials for the cathode were synthesized by planetary ball milling and solid-state reaction, and their phase formation behavior and charge-discharge properties were investigated. Calcination temperature and atmosphere were controlled in order to obtain the ${\beta}-Li_2MnSiO_4$ phase, which was active electrochemically, and the carbon-coated $Li_2MnSiO_4$ active material powders with near single phase ${\beta}-Li_2MnSiO_4$ could be fabricated. The particles of the synthesized powders were secondary particles composed of primary ones of about 100 nm size. The carbon incorporation was essential to enable the Li ions to be inserted and extracted from $Li_2MnSiO_4$ active materials, and the initial capacity of 192 mAh/g could be obtained in the $Li_2MnSiO_4$ active materials with 4.8 wt% of carbon.
In order to determine an optimum pressure condition of the storage chamber of apples, several reduced pressure were examined for the Jonathan. The results obtained checking various storage conditions are as follows. 1. The optimum pressure of chamber atmosphere for apple storage was 10 cmHg. 2. Under the pressure of 10 cmHg, the normal (room) temperature storage was better than the cold storage. 3. Under reduced pressure, poly-ethylene film wrapping of apple showed a good result in a short-term (less than one and half month) experiment. 4. No noticeable effect was observed by O.E.D (Oxy-ethylene doxanole) or sodium dehydro acetate treatment. 5. Change of the components (total sugar, reduced sugar, acid and vitamin C) of apples according to the storage methods showed similar results to our previous report, Studies on The Reduced Pressure Storage of Fruits (I)

Currently, extreme weather events such as super typhoon, extreme snowfall, and heat wave are frequently occurring all over the world by natural and human caused factors. After industrial growth in the 1970s, earth's temperature has risen sharply. due to greenhouse effect. Global warming can be attributed to gases emitted from using fossil fuel such as average carbon dioxide, perfluorocarbons, nitrous oxide, and methane. Especially, carbon dioxide has the highest composition of about 90%. in the fossile fuel usage emitted gas. Concrete has excellent durability as a building material climate change. However, due to various of physical and chemical environmental effect such as conditions during its curing process, the performance degradation may occur. Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causes steel corrosion and durability decreases by lowering the alkalinity of concrete. Therefore, in this study, concrete durability performance with respect to carbonation from curing conditions change due to wind speed and sunshine exposure time. Concrete carbonation experiment are performed. using wind speed (0, 2, 4, 6) m/s and sunlight exposure time (2, 4, 6, 8) hrs. Also, performance based evaluation through the satisfaction curve based on the carbonation depth and carbonation rate test results are performed.
Portland cement production is under critical review due to high amount of $CO_2$ gas released to the atmosphere. Attempts to increase the utilization of fly ash, a by-products from thermal power plant to partially replace the cement in concrete are gathering momentum. But most of fly ash is currently dumped in landfills, thus creating a threat to the environment. Many researches on alkali-activated concrete that does not need the presence of cement as a binder have been carried out recently. Instead, the source of material such as fly ash, that are rich in Silicon(Si) and Aluminium(Al), are activated by alkaline liquids to produce the binder. Hence concrete with no cement is effective in the reduction of $CO_2$ gas. In this study, we investigated the influence of the compressive strength of mortar on alkaline activator and curing condition in order to develop cementless fly ash based alkali-activated concrete. In view of the results, we found out that it was possible for us to make alkali-activated mortar with 70MPa at the age of 28days by using alkaline activator manufactured as 1:1 the mass ratio of 9M NaOH and sodium silicate and applying the atmospheric curing after high temperature at $60^{\circ}C$ for 48hours.

Most electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) treatment processes to recover zinc from EAFD employ carbon as a reducing agent for the zinc oxide in the EAFD. In the present work, the reduction reaction of zinc oxide with carbon in the present of iron oxide was kinetically studied. The experiments were carried out at temperatures between 1173 K and 1373 K under nitrogen atmosphere using a weight-loss technique. From the experimental results, it was concluded that adding the proper amount of iron oxide to the reactant accelerates the reaction rate of zinc oxide with carbon. This is because iron oxide in the reduction reaction of zinc oxide with carbon promotes the carbon gasification reaction. The spherical shrinking core model for a surface chemical reaction control was found to be useful in describing kinetics of the reaction over the entire temperature range. The reaction has an activation energy of 53 kcal/mol (224 kJ/mol) for ZnO-C reaction system, an activation energy of 42 kcal/mol (175 kJ/mol) for $ZnO-Fe_{2}O_{3}-C$ reaction system, and an activation energy of 44 kcal/mol (184 kJ/mol) for ZnO-mill scale-C reaction system.
In this study the retrieval algorithms have been developed to retrieve total precipitable water (TPW) from Terra/Aqua Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) infrared measurements using a physical iterative retrieval method and a split-window technique over East Asia. Retrieved results from these algorithms were validated against Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) over ocean and radiosonde observation over land and were analyzed for investigating the key factors affecting the accuracy of results and physical processes of retrieval methods. Atmospheric profiles from Regional Data Assimilation and Prediction System (RDAPS), which produces analysis and prediction field of atmospheric variables over East Asia, were used as first-guess profiles for the physical retrieval algorithm. We used RTTOV-7 radiative transfer model to calculate the upwelling radiance at the top of the atmosphere. For the split-window technique, regression coefficients were obtained by relating the calculated brightness temperature to the paired radiosonde-estimated TPW. Physically retrieved TPWs were validated against SSM/I and radiosonde observations for 14 cases in August and December 2004 and results showed that the physical method improves the accuracy of TPW with smaller bias in comparison to TPWs of RDAPS data, MODIS products, and TPWs from split-window technique. Although physical iterative retrieval can reduce the bias of first-guess profiles and bring in more accurate TPWs, the retrieved results show the dependency upon initial guess fields. It is thought that the dependency is due to the fact that the water vapor absorption channels used in this study may not reflect moisture features in particular near surface.
It is known that ${\delta}^{13}C_{DIC}$ (carbon-13 isotope of dissolved inorganic carbonate (DIC) ions) of water increases when dissolved $CO_2$ degases. However, ${\delta}^{13}C_{DIC}$ could decrease when the pH of water is lower than 5.5 at the early stage of degassing. Laboratory experiments were performed to observe the changes of ${\delta}^{13}C_{DIC}$ as $CO_2$ degassed from three different artificial $CO_2$-rich waters (ACWs) in which the initial pH was 4.9, 5.4, and 6.4, respectively. The pH, alkalinity and ${\delta}^{13}C_{DIC}$ were measured until 240 hours after degassing began and those data were compared with kinetic isotope fractionation calculations. Furthermore, same experiment was conducted with the natural $CO_2$-rich water (pH 4.9) from Daepyeong, Sejong City. As a result of experiments, we could observe the decrease of DIC and increase of pH as the degassing progressed. ACW with an initial pH of 6.4, ${\delta}^{13}C_{DIC}$ kept increasing but, in cases where the initial pH was lower than 5.5, ${\delta}^{13}C_{DIC}$ decreased until 6 hours. After 6 hours ${\delta}^{13}C_{DIC}$ increased within all cases because the $CO_2$ degassing caused pH increase and subsequently the ratio of $HCO_3{^-}$ in solution. In the early stage of $CO_2$ degassing, the laboratory measurements were well matched with the calculations, but after about 48 hours, the experiment results were deviated from the calculations, probably due to the equilibrium interaction with the atmosphere and precipitation of carbonates. The result of this study may be not applicable to all natural environments because the pressure and $CO_2$ concentration in headspace of reaction vessels was not maintained constant as well as the temperature. Nevertheless, this study provides fundamental knowledge on the ${\delta}^{13}C_{DIC}$ evolution during $CO_2$ degassing, and therefore it can be utilized in the studies about carbonated water with low pH and the monitoring of geologic carbon sequestration.

The clear sky radiance (CSR) is one of the baseline products of the Himawari-8 which was launched on October, 2014. The CSR contributes to numerical weather prediction (NWP) accuracy through the data assimilation; especially water vapor channel CSR has good impact on the forecast in high level atmosphere. The focus of this study is the quality analysis of the CSR of the Himawari-8 geostationary satellite. We used the operational CSR (or clear sky brightness temperature) products in JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency) as observation data; for a background field, we employed the CSR simulated using the Radiative Transfer for TOVS (RTTOV) with the atmospheric state from the global model of KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration). We investigated data characteristics and analyzed observation minus background statistics of each channel with respect to regional and seasonal variability. Overall results for the analysis period showed that the water vapor channels (6.2, 6.9, and $7.3{\mu}m$) had a positive mean bias where as the window channels(10.4, 11.2, and $12.4{\mu}m$) had a negative mean bias. The magnitude of biases and Uncertainty result varied with the regional and the seasonal conditions, thus these should be taken into account when using CSR data. This study is helpful for the pre-processing of Himawari-8/Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) CSR data assimilation. Furthermore, this study also can contribute to preparing for the utilization of products from the Geo-Kompsat-2A (GK-2A), which will be launched in 2018 by the National Meteorological Satellite Center (NMSC) of KMA.
Snow Cover is a form of precipitation that is defined by snow on the surface and is the single largest component of the cryosphere that plays an important role in maintaining the energy balance between the earth's surface and the atmosphere. It affects the regulation of the Earth's surface temperature. However, since snow cover is mainly distributed in area where human access is difficult, snow cover detection using satellites is actively performed, and snow cover detection in forest area is an important process as well as distinguishing between cloud and snow. In this study, we applied the Normalized Difference Snow Index (NDSI) and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to the geostationary satellites for the snow detection of forest area in existing polar orbit satellites. On the rest of the forest area, the snow cover detection using $R_{1.61{\mu}m}$ anomaly technique and NDSI was performed. As a result of the indirect validation using the snow cover data and the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer (VIIRS) snow cover data, the probability of detection (POD) was 99.95 % and the False Alarm Ratio (FAR) was 16.63 %. We also performed qualitative validation using the Himawari-8 Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) RGB image. The result showed that the areas detected by the VIIRS Snow Cover miss pixel are mixed with the area detected by the research false pixel.
