순환여과양식시스템에서 광주기 및 어체 크기가 대서양연어(Salmo salar)의 Off-season Smolt 생산에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Photoperiods and Body Size on the Off-season Smolt Production of Atlantic Salmon Salmo salar in a Recirculating Aquaculture System)

  • This study investigated the effects of photoperiod (NL 12L:12D and LL 24L:0D) and body sizes (30 g and 50 g) on parr-smolt transformation, post-smolt growth and blood properties in the off-season parr-smolt stage of Atlantic salmon reared in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). Potential off-season salmon smolt were reared in a freshwater RAS for 80 days and then all experimental fish were transferred to seawater. In both LL groups (LL-30 and LL-50), we recorded and increase in specific growth rate and reduction in feed conversion, although there were no significant difference in body size. The values of osmolality, and serum Na+, Cl- and cortisol concentrations in the LL groups were maintained at lower levels than in NL group fish, and LL group fish were observed to recover to the pre-seawater adaptation state more rapidly than those in the NL group. ID chips were inserted in all smolts reared in freshwater. These fish were subsequently transferred to full-strength seawater and thereafter individual growth rates were monitored for 120 days. The results indicated that compared with smolt reared under natural photoperiodic condition, 24 h lighting in freshwater contributed to enhancing post-smolt specific growth rate in seawater.

연어 알파바이러스 감염증의 국경검역 필요성에 대한 고찰 (Review on the necessity of boarder quarantine to prevent introduction of salmonid alphavirus into Korea)

  • Infection with salmonid alphavirus (SAV) is a serious disease that mainly affects rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) reared in seawater or freshwater. SAV is prevalent in European countries including Norway that exports rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon to Korea. Consequently, SAV was listed as a disease notifiable to the OIE and many salmonid-producing countries either designate SAV as their notifiable disease or do research on the development of diagnosis and epidemiology to reduce the possibility of SAV infection. Unlike other salmonid-producing countries, SAV is not listed as a notifiable disease in Korea, thereby arousing concern that SAV will get into the country through the importation of live salmonids. Under the circumstance, Korea needs to have a legal basis to take much stricter follow-up measures, including listing SAV as a notifiable disease, establishing surveillance system based on OIE standards to declare Korea free from SAV, killing infected fish and conducting fallow system against affected farms.

Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) 성장호르몬 cDNA의 염기배열 결정 (Determination of Growth Hormone cDNA in Brook Trout, Salvelinus fontinalis)

  • 본 연구는 PCR을 이용하여 brook trout의 성장호르몬 cDNA를 증폭시켰다. 증폭된 brook trout의 성장호르몬 cDNA의 전 염기서열은 1,120bp로 13bp의 5'uncoding region과 477bp의 3'uncoding region 그리고 630bp로 coding되는 210 아미노산 잔기가 open reading frame(ORF)을 구성하고 있음을 알았다, 또한, ORF의 아미노산 배열로부터 22개의 아미노산으로 이루어진 signal peptide 그리고 4개의 cysteine 잔기로부터 2개의 disulfide bond 결합을 하고있었으며, 이는 성장호르몬 단백질이 종을 초월하여 2개의 disulfide bond 결합으로 이루어진 고치구조를 형성하고 있는 것이 시사되었다. 그리고 Atlantic salmon과 97.1%, chum salmon과 94.8%, rainbow trout와 94.3%, coho salmon과 91.9%, tuna와 66.2%, tilapia와 63.5%, yellow tail과 62.9%, carp와 62.3%, flounder와 53.8%, eel과 48.1%의 아미노산 상동성을 나타냈다.

미국의 연어 시장 가격 예측에 관한 연구 (U.S. FRESH SALMON MARKET)

  • 연어의 미국 양육은 과거 5년동안 평균 300,000톤으로 비교적 안정적이었다. 반면에 동 기간동안 미국의 연어 수입은 1,800,000파운드에서 19,000,000파운드로 10배나 증가하여 왔다. 이러한 연어의 공급은 70%가 노르웨이에서 이루어졌다. 미국은 1981년까지는 노르웨이로부터 미미한 정도의 연어를 수입하였지만, 1983년에는 1,768톤, 1984년에는 3,869톤 그리고 1985년에는 6,272톤을 수입하였다. 카나다산 연어의 수입가격은 과거 5년전에 $2.58/1b에서 1985년에는 $1.25/1b로 지속적으로 하락하여 왔으나, 반면 노르웨이산 연어의 수입가격은 동일기간동안 $3.28/1b에서 $3.45/1b까지 큰 변동없이 유지되어 왔다. 이와같은 노르웨이산 연어는 1985년에 약 $3.35/1b로 카나다산 연어수입 가격의 약 3배에 달하는 것이다. 미국의 연어의 외형상 소비양은 1981년에 50,000톤이었으나 1985년에는 86%나 증가한 92,000톤으로 급격한 증가현상을 보이고 있다. 특히 매년의 1인당 소비는 1981년에 0.47파운드로부터 1985년에는 0.85파운드로 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 이상과 같은 상황을 기초로 미래의 연어시장가격을 예측하기 위하여 수요모델을 추정하였다. 추정된 수요모델에 의하면 미국시장에서의 매년의 연어 도매가격은 공급의 증가에 의해서는 하락하지만 미국의 GNP증가에 의해서는 상승할 것이라는 점을 나타내고 있다. 본 연구에 의한 결과는 미국의 총공급양이 25% 증가할지라도 미국의 GNP가 매년 $200,000,000,000씩 증가할 때는 1990년의 연어 도매가격은 1985년 수준으로 유지될 것이라는 점이다.

연어류 근육의 종류, 수입국 및 부위별 식품학적 품질 특성 비교 (Comparison on the Food Quality Characteristics of Muscles from Salmonids according to Species, Imported Country, and Separated Part)

  • This study compared the food quality of salmonid fishes according to the species, country of origin, and separated part, such as fillet and frame. The proximate composition of chum salmon from Norway (CS-N) was 74.4% moisture, 19.5% crude protein, 4.2% crude lipid, and 1.2% ash. These values were within roughly 1% for the other salmon species. There was no significant difference (at P<0.05) in the Hunter a value of salmon muscle according to sepatated parts. However, there was a significant difference (P<0.05) in Hunter a value of salmon muscle according to the species and country of origin. There were significant differences in odor intensity and hardness of the salmon according to the species. The major free amino acid in all of the salmon muscles was anserine, which ranged from 61.3 to 73.0%. The taste value was the highest for salmon imported from Alaska (CS-A), followed by pink salmon, CS-N, and muscle separated from the frame (AS-C). In the taste value of all salmon muscles, the major amino acid was glutamic acid. The total amino acid content of salmon muscles ranged from 18.36 to 19.64 g/100 g, and the major amino acids were glutamic acid and aspartic acid. There were differences in the mineral contents, including Ca, P, K, and Fe, and fatty acid composition of salmon muscle according to species.

Prevalence and Characterization of Typical Aeromonas salmonicida Chum Salmon Isolates in Korea

  • Aeromonas salmonicida is an important fish pathogen commonly associated with furunculosis in salmonids. Typical A. salmonicida strains have the surface virulence A-layer protein, a major virulence determinant encoded by the vapA gene. In this study, 880 chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta were collected from the east coast of Korea during 2006-2011, including 560 wild adults and 320 artificially hatched fry pools, and the presence of typical A. salmonicida was examined by PCR using the typical A. salmonicida-specific vapA gene primers. The results demonstrated that 34.5% of the samples (304/880 samples) were PCR positive, implying that a typical A. salmonicida infection is highly prevalent among chum salmon in Korea. Twenty typical A. salmonicida isolates were recovered based on their brown pigmentation on Trypticase Soy Agar (TSA) plates, which indicates the existence of the A-layer protein. Further biochemical analyses with the four randomly selected typical A. salmonicida isolates revealed some variations in their amino acid decarboxylation and carbohydrate fermentation activity. A phylogenetic analysis based on the entire vapA gene sequence suggested that the A. salmonicida isolates from chum salmon were clustered with those isolated from Atlantic salmon in Europe. Further study is needed to resolve such an interesting relationship in detail.

2021년 강원도 양식 무지개송어 및 은연어 비법정전염병 모니터링 (Disease monitoring of cultured rainbow trout and coho salmon in Gangwon province in 2021)

  • Disease including parasite, bacteria and virus cause serious mortality to salmonid fish in the aquaculture. In this study, we investigated the current disease status of the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) in Yanayang, Pyeongchang, Jeongseon and Yeongwol of Gangwon province in 2021 and performed molecular characterization of those pathogen. For parasites, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis was observed at 2 farms. For bacteria, we identified Aeromonas sobria from kidney of rainbow trout using phylogenetic analysis of gyrB gene. A. salmonicida were isolated from necrosis site of gill cover and fin in coho salmon and necrotic lesion of fin in rainbow trout. Phylogenetic analysis using vap gene indicated that A. salmonicida isolated in this study were clustered with previously reported A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida isolates. For virus, JRt-Nagano type of infectious haematopoietic necrosis virus was detected in rainbow trout, but infectious pancreatic necrosis virus and Oncorhynchus masou virus were not detected. These results provide useful information for the prevention of disease spread and transmission when cultivating new species such as Atlantic salmon in Korea.

전염성연어빈혈증(Infectious salmon anaemia) 바이러스의 국내 유입 가능성 저감을 위한 연어과 어류 수입조건 개선안 (A study on the improvement of import conditions for salmonid fish to reduce the possibility of entry of infectious salmon anaemia virus)

  • As Korea declared that the entire country is free from ISA (Infectious salmon anaemia) based on the OIE aquatic code in 2019, it is necessary to improve the import quarantine system that meets the level of ISA management in Korea. Currently, Korea imports Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout from countries which have history of ISA outbreak such as Norway and the United States, so there is a constant possibility that trade with these countries will bring ISAV (Infectious salmon anaemia virus) into Korea. Therefore, some amendments to the Aquatic Life Diseases Control Act (ALDCA) are needed to prevent the entry of ISAV into the Korea through international trade. The amendment to the ALDCA should contain a list of countries, zones or compartments that the Korean competent authority has allowed or banned imports of ISA-susceptible fish. In addition, the subordinate statutes or administrative rules of the ALDCA need to be revised so that on-site inspections/audit can be conducted for the evaluation of the ISA management system in exporting countries. After the revision of the subordinate statutes or administrative rules, it is necessary to strengthen the present import conditions in line with those that meet the level of ISA management in Korea. As for the strengthened import conditions, the competent authorities of exporting countries must export only salmonid fish produced in zones or compartments declared freedom of ISA to Korea, and must prove through lab-testing that ISAV should not be detected in the fish exporting to Korea. In addition, official veterinarians/fish health professionals of the exporting country should check the health status of the fish within 72 hours prior to export. Also, competent authorities of the exporting countries must attest that fish storage containers and water, ice and other equipment used for transportation should be cleaned and disinfected to avoid contamination with pathogens, including ISA. Therefore, the proposed measures presented here will further improve the current import condition for salmonid fish and assist decision-making on strategies to reduce the risk of ISA introduction into Korea. Also, it is expected to contribute to maintain the status of ISA-free country.

국내 다소비 횟감의 콜라겐과 조직감 특성 (Collagen and Texture Properties of Commonly Consumed Fish Species in Korea as Sliced Raw Fishes)

  • This study investigated the collagen and texture properties of commonly consumed sliced raw fish species (CC-SRF) [olive flounder (OF), red seabream (RS), Atlantic salmon (AS), coho salmon (CoS) and sockeye salmon (SS)] distributed in Korea as sliced raw fishes. The crude lipid contents of CC-SRF were 5.5% for OF, 6.8% for RS, 18.5% for AS, 16.1% for CoS, and 5.7% for SS. The collagen content and solubility from CC-SRF were 622 mg/100 g and 78.0%, respectively, in OF, 270 mg/100 g and 75.6%, respectively, in RS, 237 mg/100 g and 24.1%, respectively, in AS, 341 mg/100 g and 65.7%, respectively, in CoS, and 246 mg/100 g and 17.9%, respectively, in SS. The texture of CC-SRF was affected by the lipid content, collagen content, acid solubility, hydroxylation, and cross linkage degree. The highest hardness of CC-SRF was obtained from OF, followed by RS, SS, AS and CoS. There was, however, no difference (P>0.05) in hardness between OF and RS and between AS and CoS.
