Prospects for the use of Multiphase Inverter-fed Asynchronous Drives in the Field of Traction Systems of Railway Vehicles

  • At present among the most important problems in the field of traction systems of railway vehicles are the following: 1) the minimization of the mass-and-overall dimensions of the drive systems; 2) the increase of the drive systems reliability and obtaining their higher fault-tolerance abilities; 3) the minimization of the motion speed pulsations and its oscillations, etc. The results of the researches received by the authors of this paper show that the use of the multiphase (i.e. having the number of phases more than four) inverter-fed induction motors in these traction systems is the most effective way of solving the above mentioned problems. In this case the motion speed oscillations can be decreased only by the increase of the drive phase number without any change in the inverter control algorithm. In addition, the application of some non-traditional control methods in the multiphase asynchronous traction drive system of a railway vehicle allows to decrease the mass-and-overall dimensions of the system and to improve its reliability and some other technical-and economic characteristics.

  • The problem of controlling a finite-state asynchronous sequential machine is examined. The considered machine is governed by input/output control, where access to the state of the machine is not available. In particular, disturbance inputs can infiltrate into the asynchronous machine and provoke unauthorized state transitions. The control objective is to use output feedback to compensate the machine so that the closed-loop system drive the faulty asynchronous machine from a failed state to the original one. Necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of appropriate controllers are presented in a theoretical framework. As a case study, the closed-loop system of an asynchronous machine with the proposed control scheme is implemented in VHDL code.

Low Cost Motor Drive Technologies for ASEAN Electric Scooter

  • This work investigates two different motor drive technologies, switched reluctance motor (SRM) and induction motor (IM). They are designed optimally to meet the desired performances for electric scooters. The comparison of both motors is described in terms of performances and material cost. With the similar constraint, induction motor performs slightly better than switched reluctance motor. But this must be traded-off with higher weight and cost. Both drive systems are, however, suitable for electric scooter application. Finally, the range simulations are conducted on a European urban driving cycle, ECE15 driving cycle and a more realistic cycle, Bangkok driving cycle. The e-scooter ranges are varied from 36 to 109 km depending on driving cycle, motor technology and number of passengers.

  • NAND flash memory is a non-volatile memory that retains stored data even without power supply. Internal memory used as a data storage device and solid-state drive (SSD) is used in portable devices such as smartphones and digital cameras. However, NAND flash memory carries the risk of electric shock, which can cause errors during read/write operations, so use error correction codes to ensure reliability. It efficiently recovers bad block information, which is a defect in NAND flash memory. BBT (Bad Block Table) is configured to manage data to increase stability, and as a result of experimenting with the error correction code algorithm, the bit error rate per page unit of 4Mbytes memory was on average 0ppm, and 100ppm without error correction code. Through the error correction code algorithm, data stability and reliability can be improved.

  • For electrical vehicles, switched reluctance drives present a promising alternative-compared to asynchronous and synchronous (permanent magnet) concepts. For these applications, a very wide field weakening range is a key issue. Other requirements include high torque output from a small machine and low current ripple at the DC-side without the use of bulky filters - when powered from fuel cells or advanced Lithium-Ion-batteries. A new converter and control strategy according to these requirements is presented and compared to existing designs. The comparison is done for a drive system with a continuous power rating of 30 to 40 kW.

  • 낸드 플래시 메모리 기반의 NVMe(Non-Volatile Memory express) SSD(Solid State Drive)는 멀티 I/O 큐 환경을 제공하는 PCIe 인터페이스 기반에 NVMe 프로토콜을 사용하는 저장장치이다. NVMe SSD는 Multi-core 시스템에서 병렬 I/O 처리가 가능하고 SATA SSD에 비해 대역폭이 크며 대용량의 저장 공간을 제공하기 때문에 데이터 센터, 클라우드 컴퓨팅 등에 사용될 차세대 저장장치로 주목받고 있다. 하지만 가상화 시스템에서는 소프트웨어 I/O 스택의 병목으로 인하여 NVMe SSD의 성능을 충분히 활용하지 못하고 있다. 특히, Xen과 KVM과 같이 호스트 시스템의 I/O 스택을 사용하는 경우에는, 호스트 시스템과 가상머신의 중복된 I/O 스택을 통해서 입출력이 처리되기 때문에 성능 저하가 크게 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 NVMe SSD에 직접 접근하는 기술을 KVM 가상화 시스템에 적용함으로써 가상 머신 I/O의 성능을 향상시키는 Direct-AIO (Direct-Asynchronous I/O)엔진을 제안한다. 그리고 QEMU 에뮬레이터에 제안한 엔진을 개발하고 기존의 I/O 엔진과의 성능 차이를 비교 및 분석한다.

Mechatronic Control Model of the Wind Turbine with Transmission to Split Power

  • In this paper, a wind turbine with power splitting transmission, which is realized through a novel three-shaft planetary, is presented. The input shaft of the transmission is driven by the rotor of the wind turbine, the output shaft is connected to the grid via the main generator (asynchronous generator), and the third shaft is driven by a control motor with variable speed. The dynamic models of the sub systems of this wind turbine, e.g. the rotor aerodynamics, the drive train dynamics and the power generation unit dynamics, were given and linearized at an operating point. These sub models were integrated in a multidisciplinary dynamic model, which is suitable for control syntheses to optimize the utilization of wind energy and to reduce the excessive dynamic loads. The important dynamic behaviours were investigated and a wind turbine with a soft main shaft was recommend.

Design of Self-Starting Hybrid Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Connected Directly to Line

  • In view of the current state of the reserves of electric energy generated resources and the share of electric motors in electricity consumption, many researches and studies related to efficiency in electric motors are being made. The presented work is related to the Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (AF-PMSM), which has recently undergone significant work based on the development of magnet and motor technology. In this study, a novel AF-PMSM was designed analytically through Finite Element Method (FEM) which can be started by connecting to a line such as an asynchronous motor in a transient state and can operate with high efficiency and power factor after synchronization in steady state without the need for an expensive motor drive. According to the obtained FEM results, a design with an efficiency class of IE4 of 5.5 kW shaft power, a 4 poles motor was obtained. As a result, economic calculations indicate that the extra cost of the designed Line start AF-PMSM with respect to the asynchronous motor is rapidly compensated by energy saving due to a more efficient operation, especially constant speed operations. As a result of the analysis obtained, the targeted values are reached. For induction motors and radial flux permanent magnet synchronous motors, a good alternative motor that can operate with high efficiency and power factor has been obtained.

  • In this article, we present and analyze the results of the three consecutive in vivo experiments of the LVAD to evaluate the function of the LVAD and the adverse effects on living animals. We applied the LVAD consecutively to three mongrel dogs and the circulation of the blood was assisted under the anesthesia. We used in general both the asynchronous mode and the synchronous mode to drive the LVAD. During the experiments we monitored the dogs with a polygraph to evaluate the function of the LVAD and the additional effects on the natural hearts. We also examined several clinical pathologic tests in order to see the effects of the LVAD to the red blood cells and the other internal organs. The dogs survived for two to there days. The LVAD assisted the circulatory system at the maximum assist flow rate of 3.0 1/min. Although the red blood cells of the dogs had mechanical damages by the LVAD to result in the hemolysis, the degree of the hemolysis was not so high and the damages caused by the hemolysis on the dogs were not serious. The myocardium of the first dog was gradually worsened and eventually failed. The damage of the myocardium was due to the asynchronous driving mode of the LVAD. The other organs did not have serious damages due to the application of the LVAD. The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate the results of the in vivo experiments of the LVAD and to find better ways to the application of the LVAD to human beings.

소셜네트워크의 핵심요인 분석 : 기술과 서비스 측면을 중심으로 (The Analysis for Key Factors of Social Network in aspect of Technology and Service)

  • 소셜네트워크서비스(Social Network Service)는 사람들 사이의 사회적 관계를 중심으로 온라인상에 구축된 친목기반형 서비스이다. 최근 이러한 서비스의 수요와 관심이 그 어느 때 보다 높아진 반면 기술과 서비스적인 측면에서 접근이 아직은 미흡한 실정이다. 본 연구는 다양한 소셜네트워크 서비스 가운데 전 세계적으로 가장 유명하고 이용자수가 최대인 페이스북(Facebook)을 대상으로 기술과 서비스적 접근을 바탕으로 페이스북이 성공한 요인이 무엇인지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 소셜네트워서비스를 사용한 경험이 풍부한 사용자들의 행동을 관찰 하였다. 그 결과 기술적인 측면에 해당하는 비동기적인 방식이 사교성을 향상시키고 기술의 공개성은 서비스적인 측면에서 폐쇄성을 지향하는 방향으로 작동하는 것을 발견하였다. 이는 소셜 미디어가 갖는 독특한 특질이다. 이러한 요소를 고려해서 소셜 미디어를 개발할 때 성공적인 소셜네트워크서비스가 가능 할 것으로 기대한다.
