  • Small cell networks, as an important evolution path for next-generation cellular networks, have drawn much attention. Different from the traditional base stations (BSs) always-on model, we proposed a BSs on-off model, where a new, simple expression for the probabilities of active BSs in a heterogeneous network is derived. This model is more suitable for application in practical networks. Based on this, we develop an analytical framework for the performance evaluation of small cell networks, adopting stochastic geometry theory. We derive the system coverage probability; average energy efficiency (AEE) and average uplink power consumption (AUPC) for different association strategies; maximum biased received power (MaBRP); and minimum association distance (MiAD). It is analytically shown that MaBRP is beneficial for coverage but will have some loss in energy saving. On the contrary, MiAD is not advocated from the point of coverage but is more energy efficient. The simulation results show that the use of range expansion in MaBRP helps to save energy but that this is not so in MiAD. Furthermore, we can achieve an optimal AEE by establishing an appropriate density of small cells.

  • This study aimed to discover the most influential player in the network of Soccer game and how individual players contribute within the team with quantitative capabilities they possess. It also examined whether or not the network of relationship between players and the coach's tactics were in harmony. The results showed high level of correlation between the network between offenders and defenders according to tactics of the coach during the first half. It can be said that each players fulfilled their role and formed a network within them to lead the game and form a virtuous network structure. On the other hand, the overall network of the team was focused on a specific player during the second half. But the coach's appropriate use of substitutes and change in tactics stabilized the network balance between the players.

  • Social media is a general term for online services by which users share opinions, perspectives, and experiences. It supports interactions between users in sharing contents on it and weak ties among them play an important role in the process. This exploratory study attempts to identify crucial factors of establishing weak ties between social media users in the perspective of social network theory and uncertainty reduction theory. We collected data through diary study and in-depth interview and analyzed it following grounded theory approach. As a result, social media users more actively interacted each other or shared contents based on weak ties, compared to strong ties. In addition, similarity, self-disclosure, and relevance appeared to facilitate establishment of weak ties, by reducing psychological distance between social media users and perceived uncertainty of them.

  • The purpose of this study is to grasp the type of network activity and corporate competency based on network theory and to compare and analyze the relationship between these characteristics and business performance. The results showed that the frequency, importance, and reliability of CEO's had a positive (+) effect on business performance, and the mediating effect of corporate competency (industrial information competency, opportunity capture competency, strategic flexibility, and transaction cost reduction) appeared. This study tried to measure business performance by including corporate competency as a direct performance variable of CEO's network activity and found that it is desirable to focus on interacting with the most important network sources and to make efforts to strengthen the qualitative characteristics of network activities rather than expanding the scope of the network in order to improve the performance of CEO's Network Activity.

  • With the fast development of complex science, lots of social networks are studied. We know that the social network is widely applied in analyzing issues in human culture, economics and web sciences. Recently we witness that some researchers began to compare the social network constructed from fiction literatures(literature social network) and the real social network obtained from practice. But we point that previous approaches for literature social network have some drawbacks since they completely depend on the biographical dictionary constructed for a designated literature. So since the previous approach focus on the few important characters and peoples around them, we can not understand the global structure of all characters appeared in the literature at least once. We propose one method to extract all characters appeared in the literature and how to make the social network from that information. Also we newly propose K-critical network by applying frequency of the named characters and the strength of relationship among all textual characters. Our experiment shows that the K-critical measure could be one crucial quantitative measure to compute the relationship strength among characters appeared in the object literature.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore consumers' experiences in one used market site. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted for the 8 consumers who were members of the used market site. In the study methodology, the grounded theory designed by Strauss and Corbin was utilized. From the analysis results, 23 subcategories and 11 categories were created. In the axial coding, the following paradigm model was proposed: 1) the casual conditions were "the pond of information" and "underground market," 2) the contextual conditions were "inconsistent behavior" and "error of communication", 3) the central phenomenon was "non-ethic behavior of seller/buyer, 4) the intervening conditions were "induction of intimacy", "use of patronage", and "creation of network", 5) the action/interaction strategy was "being shrewd", and 6) the consequence was "adaptation/non-adaptation". In selective coding, the core category was "to adapt of non-ethic behaviors through being shrewd." Based on the core category, the following four types of process of adaptation of the used market site were found: "A selfish addict," "An advanced utilitarian", "A hard philosopher," and "A cynical dropout".

  • The aim of this study is to develop basic artificial neural network models in forecasting the in-sample gross domestic product (GDP) of Malaysia. GDP is one of the main indicators in presenting the macro economic condition of a country as set by the world authority bodies such as the World Bank. Hence, this study uses an artificial neural network-based approach to make predictions concerning the economic growth of Malaysia. This method has been proposed due to its ability to overcome multicollinearity among variables, as well as the ability to cope with non-linear problems in Malaysia's growth data. The selected inputs and outputs are based on the previous literatures as well as the economic growth theory. Therefore, the selected inputs are exports, imports, private consumption, government expenditure, consumer price index (CPI), inflation rate, foreign direct investment (FDI) and money supply, which includes M1 and M2. Whilst, the output is real gross domestic product growth rate. The results of this study showed that the neural network method gives the smallest value of mean error which is 0.81 percent with a total difference of 0.70 percent. This implies that the neural network model is appropriate and is a relevant method in forecasting the economic growth of Malaysia.

  • Connectivity between water source and demand node can be served as a critical system performance indicator of the degree of water distribution network (WDN)' failure severity under abnormal conditions. Graph theory-based approaches have been widely applied to quantify the connectivity due to WDN's graph-like topological feature. However, most previous studies used undirected-unweighted graph theory which is not proper to WDN. In this study, the directed-weighted graph theory was applied for WDN connectivity analyses. We also proposed novel connectivity indicators, Source-to-Node Shortest Pathway (SNSP) and SNSP-Degree (SNSP-D) which is an inverse of the SNSP value, that does not require complicate hydraulic simulation of a WDN of interest. The proposed SNSP-D index was demonstrated in total 42 networks in J City, South Korea in which Pearson Correlation Coefficient (PCC) between the proposed SNSP-D and four other system performance indicators was computed: three resilience indexes and an energy efficiency metric. It was confirmed that a system representative value of the SNSP-D has strong correlation with all resilience and energy efficiency indexes (PCC = 0.87 on average). Especially, PCC was higher than 0.93 with modified resilience index (MRI) and energy efficiency indicator. In addition, a multiple linear regression analysis was performed to identify the system hydraulic characteristic factors that affect the correlation between SNSP-D and other system performance indicators. The proposed SNSP is expected to be served as a useful surrogate measure of resilience and/or energy efficiency indexes in practice.

  • Purpose - Recently, the management conditions of small independent retailers are getting worse everyday as large-scale marts and franchised convenience stores are increasing. The objective of this research is to find out the antecedents and consequences of cooperation in voluntary chain in order to enhance small independent retailer's competitiveness. Voluntary chains, also called affiliation or symbol groups, or allied group represent a high market shared in some European countries like Italy, France, and Germany. Nevertheless, there are still limitations in this research from academic fields. Drawing from network theory, the author investigates the relationship between antecedent factors in voluntary chain cooperation, such as participation benefits, justice of compensation, and autonomy in voluntary chain, and relationship specific asset. The author also attempts to examine the relationship between the relationship specific asset and cooperation of voluntary chain member shop and cooperation and consequence factors of voluntary chain cooperation, such as efficiency, group cohesiveness, and long-term relationship. Research design, data, and methodology - The author presented conceptual framework integrating the major antecedents and consequences of voluntary chain cooperation. The data were collected from 174 independent small retailers who joined K-voluntary chain. K-voluntary chain consists of small independent retailers. In accordance with their status, each entrepreneur associated with the voluntary group can own one or more outlets and can be a part of the life and the decision-making process of the group. This participation is not based on company turnover or on the number of outlets, but based on a one member, one vote system. To verify the research model and test hypotheses, the author carefully investigated the reliability, content validity, convergent validity, and discriminant validity of the proposed model. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS structural equation modeling program. Results - The results of this study are as follows. First, as antecedent variables, participation benefits and justice of compensation have positive effect on the relationship specific assets of voluntary chain members. Second, voluntary chain members' relationship specific asset also directly related to the level of its cooperation to chain headquarter. Third, cooperation of voluntary chain member shop facilitates efficiency, group cohesiveness, and long-term relationship. Unexpectedly, there are no effect autonomy in voluntary chain to relationship specific asset. Conclusions - This research shows several theoretical and practical implications to both marketing scholars and marketers. In terms of theoretical implications, this study applies to network theory and network theory variables to explain the antecedent and consequence factors of cooperation in voluntary chain. From the point of view from business management, most of all, this study shows the way how to reinforce competitiveness of voluntary chain. Specifically, it is necessary for voluntary chain headquarter to give higher level of participation benefit and justice of compensation to its members. Second, the results also indicate what the consequence factors of cooperation in voluntary chain. In other words, to increase the level of marketing efficiency, group cohesiveness, long-term orientation in retail voluntary chain, and chain headquarter need to facilitate participants' cooperation.
