해양 콘크리트 구조물의 신뢰성 기반한 내구성 평가 (Reliability based durability assessment of marine concrete structures)

  • 해양 환경에 노출된 구조물의 열화를 평가하는데 있어서 신뢰성을 확보하기 위해서는 기존의 사양설계에 비해 한 단계 발전된 신뢰성에 기반한 확률론적 설계가 필요하다. 또한 내구성 설계에 있어서 중요한 변수가 되는 임계염화물량은 국내 콘크리트 시방서에서 $1.2kg/m^3$으로 결정되었으나, 실설계 적용시 과다 설계를 유발하는 등의 문제를 보여주고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존 문헌을 통해 임계염화물량의 확률 특성을 결정하고, 실제 실험 및 문헌 고찰을 통하여 표면염화물량, 확산계수, 피복두께의 확률적 특성을 고려하였다. 이를 이용하여 Monte Carlo Simulation을 활용한 신뢰성 염해 내구성 해석을 침매 터널 구조물에 대해 수행하여 대상 구조물의 염해내구성능을 평가하고 콘크리트 표준시방서에서 제시한 부식 임계 염소이온농도에 대한 타당성을 검토하였다. 분석 결과, 현실적인 염해 내구성 설계 및 평가를 위하여 기존에 제안된 $1.2kg/m^3$의 임계값에 대한 검토 및 개선이 필요함을 알 수 있었다.

해수면 조위차와 항만시설물의 손상과의 관계 분석 (Relationship between the Tidal Range in Sea Level and Damage of Domestic Port Facility)

  • 본 연구에서는 항만시설물의 환경적인 요인과 열화 특성을 고려한 유지관리 방안을 수립하기 위한 기초연구로서 인천 및 부산 항만시설물을 대상으로 점검 보고서를 참고하여 열화 및 손상정도를 검토하였으며 현재 지침에서 제시하고 있는 열화환경평가와의 관계를 분석하였다. 인천 및 부산 항만시설물의 손상 정도를 분석한 결과 인천항이 부산항보다 약 3배 정도 높은 손상률을 나타내었으며 인천항의 경우 철근부식 손상과 외부요인 손상의 비율이 유사하게 나타났으며, 부산항의 경우 철근부식 손상이 외부요인 손상의 비율보다 높게 나타났다. 한편 지침에서 제시하고 있는 열화환경 평가와 비교한 결과 지침에서 제시하고 있는 열화환경 평가를 바탕으로 항만시설물을 평가할 경우 정량적 평가를 수행함에 다소 한계가 있는 것으로 확인되었으며 기존 문헌을 참고하여 조수간만의 차를 바탕으로 분석을 수행하였다. 인천 및 부산 지역에 대한 조수간만의 차를 분석한 결과 인천이 부산보다 약 5배 높은 조수간만의 차를 나타내었으며 이는 기존 열화환경 평가 항목보다 지역 및 해역에 대해 정량적으로 열화환경을 평가할 수 있는 항목이 될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

공주 중동 및 반죽동 석조의 정밀 손상도 진단과 복원석재 제안 (Precise Deterioration Diagnosis and Restoration Stone Suggestion of Jungdong and Banjukdong Stone Aquariums in Gongju, Korea)

  • 이 연구에서는 중동 및 반죽동 석조의 재질특성을 파악하여 탈락부의 복원석재를 선정하였으며, 다양한 비파괴기술을 활용하여 보존과학적 정밀안전진단을 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 두 석조 모두 몸체의 원부재 암석은 자철석 계열의 반상화강섬록암으로 화성선리가 발달되어 있고, 미사장석 반정, 세맥 및 염기성 포획암을 함유하고 있다. 부재의 산지추정 결과, 논산시 부적면 감곡리 일대에 분포하는 암석이 동일기원으로 해석되어 탈락부 복원용 석재로 적합한 것으로 판단하였다. 석조의 손상도 평가에서는 공통적으로 박리 및 박락과 흑화에 의한 손상이 심하며, 특히 반죽동석조의 전면은 흑운모의 화성선리를 따라 발생한 구조상 균열(760mm)의 보강이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 석조 표면의 흑화오염물은 철 및 망간산화물과 점토광물이 결합하여 발생하였고, 백화오염물은 방해석(중동석조)과 석고(반죽동석조)가 주성분으로 작용하여 변색을 유발하였다. 이 석조의 물성은 원부재의 경우 3등급(중간 풍화단계)을, 신부재의 경우 2등급(약간 풍화단계)으로 확인되었다. 이 연구를 통해 중동 및 반죽동석조는 재질분석부터 복원석재 선정과 보존과학적 정밀진단까지 매우 유기적인 보존시스템이 구축되었다.

  • In general, the problems of strengthening and repairing of deteriorated or damaged reinforced concrete members are usually worked out in situ by externally bounding steel plates using epoxy resins, which has been recognized to be one of effective and convenient methods. But the disadvantages of strengthening/repairing concrete members with externally bonded steel plates include ; (a) deterioration of the bond at the steel-concrete interface caused by the corrosion of steel ; (b) difficulty in manipulating the plate at the construction site ; (c) improper formation of joints, due to the limited delivery lengths of the steel plates ; and etc. Therefore these difficulties eventually have led to the concept of replacing the steel plates by fiber-reinforced composite sheets which are characterized by their light weight, extremely high stiffness, excellent fatigue properties, and outstanding corrosion resistance. In the paper, for the reliability assessment of reinforced concrete beams externally strengthened by carbon fiber plastic(CFRP) laminates, an attempt is made to suggest a limit state model based on the strain compatibility method and the concept of fracture mechanics. And the reliability of the proposed models is evaluated by using the AFOSM method. The load carrying capacity of the deteriorated and/or damaged RC beams is considerably increased. Thus, it may be stated that the post-strengthening of concrete beams with externally bonded CFRP materials may be one of very effective way of increasing the load carrying capacity and stiffeness characteristics of existing structures.

Region-Scaled Soil Erosion Assessment using USLE and WEPP in Korea

  • During the summer season, more than half of the annual precipitation in Korea occurs during the summer season due to the geographical location in the Asian monsoon belt. So, this causes severe soil erosion from croplands, which is directly linked to the deterioration of crop/land productivity and surface water quality. Therefore, much attention has been given to develop accurate estimation tools of soil erosion. The aim of this study is to assess the performance of using the empirical Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) and the physical-based model of the Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP) to quantify eroded amount of soil from agricultural fields. Input data files, including climate, soil, slope, and cropping management, were modified to fit into Korean conditions. Chuncheon (forest) and Jeonju (level-plain) were selected as two Korean cities with different topographic characteristics for model analysis. The results of this current study indicated that better soil erosion prediction can be achieved using the WEPP model since it has better power to illustrate a higher degree of spatial variability than USLE in topography, precipitation, soils, and crop management practices. These present findings are expected to contribute to the development of the environmental assessment program as well as the conservation of the agricultural environment in Korea.

농촌지역내 친환경적인 댐 조성을 위한 훼손저감기법 적용 연구 - 식물생태계를 중심으로 - (A Study on Establishment of Mitigation Technique of Deterioration for Environmental-friendly Dam Construction in Rural Area - A focus of the Plant Ecosystem -)

  • Building a dam that is not considering the environmental impact and human social impact can cause the loss of entire ecospheres such as fragmentary green network, disturbance of plants ecosystem, the destruction of social and cultural indigenous resources, therefore, it can occur the environment change and distortion of ecosystem. The purpose of this study is that presenting the methods of ecosystem maintenance and ecosystem damage compensation about for environmentally direct impact i.e. the ecosystem change in the intended place for building a dam. According to the planning progress, the study was proceeded to planning site examine, assessment, conception plan. As the results of examine and assessment, it must be necessary to offered the maintenance and damage compensation if the site where include the 1st degree of biotope area, the 2nd degree of biotope and the 8th degree of green naturality area were damaged by being submerged and constructing road. In addition, according to the conception plan, we suggest the mitigation proposals such as plant communities transplant, planning of connecting green network against for influencing direct impact ecosystem that is destroying plant communities, damaging inhabitants, noise pollution, water pollution, etc.

Vehicle Instrument Cluster Layout Differentiation for Elderly Drivers

  • Objective: The objective of this study is to identify essential requirements of the instrument cluster's features and layout for elderly drivers through interview and paper prototyping. Background: Recent updates implemented in passenger vehicles require more complex information to be processed by drivers. Concurrently, a large portion of the US population, the baby boomer generation has aged, causing their physical and cognitive abilities to deter. Thus it is crucial that new methods be implemented into vehicle design in order to accommodate for the deterioration of mental and physical abilities. Method: Forty elderly drivers and twenty young drivers participated in this study. The test included three sessions including: 1) location value assessment to identify the priority of areas within the instrument cluster; 2) component value assessment to capture rankings of the degree of importance and frequency of use for possible instrument cluster components; and 3) paper prototyping to collect self-designed cluster with selection of designs for each component and location of features from each participant. Results: Results revealed differences in the area priority of the instrument cluster as well as the shape and location of component features for age and gender groups. Conclusion: The study provided insights on instrument cluster layout guidelines by proving elderly driver's mental model and preferred cluster design configurations to improve driving safety. Application: LCD-based vehicle instrument cluster design, with an adaptable feature configuration for cluster components and layouts.

A parametric investigation on seismic performance of ageing Sarıyar dam

  • The assessment of seismic behavior and seismic performance of ageing Sarıyar concrete gravity dam constructed on Sakarya River in Türkiye is the main focus of this paper. For this purpose, the impact of sediment domain, ageing of concrete material under the impact of chemical and mechanical actions, and dam-water-sediment interaction are included in the two-dimensional (2D) finite element (FE) model developed in FORTRAN 90 environment. In the FE model, the dam and age dependent sediment domains are modeled by solid elements, while reservoir domain is modeled by Lagrangian fluid elements. The radiation of reflected waves to the unbounded water domain is modeled by infinite Lagrangian fluid elements, while unbounded sediment domain is modeled by infinite solid elements. The coupled system was assumed to be under the simultaneous impact of Vertical (V) and Horizontal (H) ingredients of 1976 Koyna earthquake and the coupled system was analyzed in Laplace domain by direct method. Due to the deterioration of the concrete, the H and V displacement responses together with the fundamental period of the body, elongate throughout the lifetime and this reduce the seismic safety of the dam. It was deduced that the ageing dam body will not experience major damages under the Koyna earthquake both at the earlier and later ages. Furthermore, at the heel of the dam, the hydrodynamic pressure responses are decreased by rising the sediment domain depth.

도로교 내하급수 판정시스템 개발 (Development of Rating System for Highway Bridges)

  • 본 연구는 도로교량들의 효율적인 안전도 명가 및 내하급수 판정 전산화 시스템을 개발하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 현행 도로교 내하급수 체계를 합리적으로 개선한 후 외관조사 또는 가용 통계자료 만으로 안전성 평가를 실시할 수 있는 신뢰성 방법에 기초한 합리적인 내하력 평가방법을 제시하고 비상작전시 군용차량의 설제적인 허용통과 급수 판정시스템을 개발하였다. 연구결과 본 연구에서 제시된 내하력 및 내하급수 판정시스템, 그리고 내하력 평가 프로그램 BRS(Bridge Rating System)은 교량의 노후도와 각종 불확실량을 체계적으로 반영한 실 내하력 평가수단으로서 장차 교량의 안전성 및 내하력 평가에 널리 활용될 수 있다고 사료되었다.

Air Quality Deterioration in a Pristine Area due to a Petroleum Refinery and Associated Activities

  • The work describes an assessment of the major air pollutants, $NO_2$, $SO_2$, CO, $O_3$, $NH_3$, coarse and fine particulate matter ($PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$) in ambient air in and around a 3 million tonne Petroleum Refinery and the possible impacts on a pristine area marked by the presence of the world-famous Kajiranga National Park, a world heritage site and habitat for the most number of one-horned rhinos in the world. The Refinery is at an aerial distance of 20-25 km from the wildlife habitat. The assessment is based on regular monitoring at four stations around the Refinery and one station near the National Park. Heavy rains during June to August influence the pollutant concentrations while at other times of the year, large traffic volume adds to the pollutant concentrations that peak during November to March, the dry months of the year. Correlation analysis by scatter technique is utilised to obtain the enhancement ratios to predict the variations in the concentrations of the pollutants and their spatial distribution. Computation of air quality index (AQI) indicates that the coarse and the fine particulates in the ambient air could be a major hazard to wildlife in the area.
