  • The assemblability was determined by the structure of product and the relationship between composing parts and machining parts. In this paper, the bolt was divided into bolt-head, -shaft, -thread and -end. For the better assemblability in bolting process, the geometric and technological characteristics of bolts in terms of pre- and in-assembly process were analyzed. And this paper presents assemblability evaluation for bolt feature design alternatives. For this evaluation system, we considered systematically eight factors for assemblability, but introduced two factores for the stability of laying and for the handlability of parts. And AutoCAC system is interfaced with the evaluation system written in C-language.

  • This paper studies the relationship between assemblability and assembly time. After analyzing characteristic factors of bolts and parts, seven different kinds of assemblability parameters were determined according to assembly process, and assemblability was also evaluated. MTM (Method-Time Measurement) and Work factor methods were used for an estimation of assembly time. It shows the relationship can be found on the basis of characteristic factors of parts and bolts by relational graphs and numerical formulas.

  • In this study, the product design technology to facilitate the assembly automation is developed. First, checkistis are developed to analyse weakpoints which make assembly automation difficult. The weakpoints of assembly automation can be redesigned by using design rules for assemblability which are systematized in this research. In addition, the assemblability of product can be evaluated qualitatively with the new developed assembly evaluation method. This evaluation method is performed in the respect of the component parts, the assembly method and the assembly motion.

  • This paper proposes a new DFA methodology that ran estimate the standard assembly time and evaluate the assemblability of parts for small-sized product. We deride some determining and influencing factors related with assembly process and measure the assembly time using notion analysis to estimate of assemblability. We deduce quantitative store of assemblability through analysis of a correlation between determining factors and grade of influencing factors.

And this paper presents the knowledge-based expert system to assist for designer in the processor of designing bolt for easier assembly. The developed expert system for supporting bolt design assemblability which is named as BDFA SYSTEM consists of two system such as "BOLT DESIGN SYSTEM" which provide feasible assembly bolt design to designer and "EVALUATION SYSTEM" which provide assembly evaluation to alternative of bolt design.

  • In this paper, on the basis of factory rationalization, the detection and evaluation system of weak assembly process was developed to analyze the processes for improvement of assembly productivity in the current assembly system. Using this detection and evaluation system of weak assembly process, the weak degrees of assembly process were quantitatively calculated. In this system, the improved design rules were constructed for assemblability and the redesign alternative was Presented for elimination of weak Process. After review of the redesign alternative, it was applied to the actual assembly system.

  • This paper proposes a redesign procedure for assemblability and automatic assembly of an automobile heater blower motor. According to the procedure, redesign alternatives are generated, then the alternatives are evaluated by a weighted objectives method to select one optimal redesign alternative. First, the redesign objectives are identified and the assemblability of the current motor is evaluated to decide redesign rules. Finally, the redesign variants and alternatives are generated using the redesign criteria. This information is then evaluated to select an optimal alternative, determined by weighted evaluation criteria which is established in advance.

  • DFA (Design for assembly) is a design philosophy for improving product designs for simpler or less costly assembly operations. This paper proposes a new DFA methodology that can estimate the standard assembly time and evaluate the assemblablity of parts. We select some determining and influencing factors related with assembly process, and estimate the assembly time using motion analysis. By the levels of the determining and influencing factors, the assemblability is evaluated, and finally, the tables that include the time and score of assembly is suggested.
