  • In an inclined enclosure with the upper part cooled and the lower part heated, quantitative data of the temperature and velocity are obtained simultaneously using thermo-sensitive liquid crystals. Experimental results are Presented for Pr=909. aspect ratios of 1/14. 2/14 and 3/14, angle of inclination, 0$\leq$$\theta$$\leq$45 to the horizontal line. The numerical results are obtained in the same conditions as experiments by the finite volume method and its results are compared with experimental results. It is found that the number of cell is decreased with increasing the angle of inclination. and a unicell is formed at nearby 6=30$^{circ}$ which is not affected by the aspect ratio.

  • Numerical solutions of two-dimensional, steady, and natural are investigated in a confined rectangular cavity with porous media. The saturated fluid is bounded by two isothermal vertical walls at different temperatures and two adiabatic horizontal walls. Governing equations are numerically solved by finite difference method with the up wind scheme. Distributions of streamline and temperature we. predicted for aspect ratios ranging from 0.1 to 1.0, Rayleigh numbers 50 to $10^4$, and tilt angles $0^{\circ}\;to\;60^{\circ}$. Representative plots of temperature and velocity field according to tilt angle are presented. The effects of aspect ratio, Rayleigh number, and tilt angle on local and average Nusselt numbers are obtained. The optimum conditions for maximum Nusselt number are also presented with tilt angles.

  • Pressure-drop in a micro-channel is critical when a hole diameter is less then 100um with the high aspect ratio, more than 40. To minimize these pressure loss for micro-channel applications is important and there would be the best hole diameter, taper angle, and their combinations. In this work, the parametric study for laser drilling of anodized material is conducted to obtain the micro-channel hole with high aspect ratio.

  • In this study, the factors affecting reality aspect of virtual reality system were identified through Quality Function Deployment. The influence of some selected factors was evaluated in simulated performance test. It was shown that the factor of whether user can break through the objects in virtual space is the most sensitive to performance, followed by the factors of rotation angle and movement step. Also, the results implied that as more referents were provided to user, feeling of reality was enhanced.

  • In the rectangular bar multi-stage drawing process, the cross-section dimensional accuracy of the rectangular bar varies depending on the aspect ratio and process conditions. It is very important to predict the dimensional error of the cross-section occurring in the multi-stage drawing process according to the aspect ratio of the rectangular bar and the half die angle of each pass. In this study, a process map for improving the dimensional accuracy according to the aspect ratio was derived in the drawing process of a rectangular bar. FE-simulation of the multi-stage shape drawing process was carried out with four types of rectangular bar. The results of the FE-simulation were trained to the nonlinear relationship between the shape parameters using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN), and the process maps were derived from them. The optimum half die angles were determined from the process maps on the dimensional accuracy. The validity of the suggested process map for aspect ratios 1.25~2:1 were verified through FE-simulation and experimentation.

  • The laminar natural convection of air in 2-D rectangular enclosure in which two opposing isothermal walls were kept at different temperatures is investigated numerically for Rayleigh number up to $10^6$. Computations were performed for the width-to-height ratios of 1, 2, and 4, and for the inclination angle range of $0^{\circ}{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}90^{\circ}$. For each aspect ratio, the influence of the inclination angle on the flow patterns and heat transfer rates were examined for $10^3{\leq}Ra{\leq}10^6$. It is found that the growth of secondary flow in the corners led to the decrease in overall heat transfer for small aspect ratio case, and the transition from a three-cell structure to a unicell flow pattern in large aspect ratio led to a step-like change in heat transfer. A new correlation of mean Nusselt number is presented for the vertical case of ${\theta}=90^{\circ}$.

  • This paper reports the experimental study of natural convection heat transfer with $Al_2O_3$-water nanofluid. Experimental apparatus was a cylindrical enclosure with adjustable fluid layer thickness, and the aspect ratio was varied between 10.9 and 30.4. Heat transfer coefficients seemed to have reached a steady value within 30 minutes as the case with pure water. But, decrease in heat transfer coefficient continued for over $1{\sim}2$ hours for inclination angle of $0^{\circ}$, and oscillation in heat transfer was observed for certain inclination angles and aspect ratios for over 10 hours. Oscillation shape and period depended on the aspect ratio and inclination angle. For example, the oscillation period for $0^{\circ}$ was more than twice that for $60^{\circ}$. The maximum Nusselt number occurred at the inclination angle of $30^{\circ}$, and the minimum occurred at $60^{\circ}$ for Rayleigh number less than 1.E5. However the present results were obtained with aggregated nanofluid and would be devoid of generalities.

  • Recently, deep learning algorithms have good performance in various fields, but they are not actively applied to sonar systems. In this study, we carried out experiments to classify active sonar returns into a metal object such as a mine and a rock using a convolutional neural network which is one of the deep learning algorithms. Data augmentation is applied on this paper to avoid overfitting and increase performance. And we analyzed performance variation depending on hyperparameter value and change of the number of training data through data augmentation. The experiments are performed with two training data; an aspect-angle independent and an aspect-angle dependent. As a result, the performances are 88.9% and 94.9% in aspect-angle independent and dependent, respectively. These are up to 4.5% point higher than the performance obtained by applying artificial neural network and support vector machine algorithm in the previous study.

  • Acoustic target strength (TS) of 12 commercially important fish species caught in the Korean waters had been investigated and their results were presented. Laboratory measurements of target strength on 12 dominant fish species were carried out at a frequencies of 75 kHz by single beam method under the controlled condition of the water tank with the 241 samples of dead and live fishes. The target strength pattern on individual fish of each species was measured as a function of tilt angle, ranging from $-45^{\circ}$ (head down aspect) to $45^{\circ}$ (head up aspect) in $0.2^{\circ}$ intervals, and the averaged target strength was estimated by assuming the tilt angle distribution as N ($-5.0^{\circ}$, $^15.0{\circ}$). The 75 to fish length relationship for each species was independently derived by a least - squares fitting procedure. Also, a linear regression analysis for all species was performed to reduce the data to a set of empirical equations showing the variation of target strength to fish length and fish species. An empirical model for fish target strength(TS, dB) averaged over the dorsal aspect of 158 fishes of 7 species and which spans the fish length(L, m) to wavelength(${\lambda}$, m) ratio between 6.2 and 21.3 was derived: TS: 27.03 Log(L)-7.7Log(${\kanbda}$)-17.21, ($r^2$=0.59).

  • In this study, basic data that can be referenced for ventilation modeling was presented by analyzing the characteristics of wind pressure coefficients(Cp) according to wind direction angles under conditions of different building layouts and aspect ratios through CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis for flat-type apartment complexes. In the case of a wind direction angle of 0°, Cp distribution in the form of an inverted S-shape was shown on the front of the building located on the windward side. And Cp corresponding to the lowest floor, the uppermost floor, and the two inflection points showed relatively close values regardless of the height of the building. The inflection point of the low-rise part was formed at a height of about 11m, and the height of the high-rise part could be calculated through a trend formula proportional to the height of the building. It was confirmed that the averaged Cp value can be applied in most conditions except for the wind direction angle of 45 degrees.
