A study was conducted to determine growth and survival rates of snakehead (Channa striata) larvae. Live foods such as Artemia salina nauplii, Moina micrura and bloodworm and artificial diet were given to larvae from 1-15 days after hatching as the 1st phase and from 15-30 days as the 2nd phase. In the 1st phase, the growth and survival rates of larvae fed with Artemia nauplii were significantly different from larvae fed with Moina (p < 0.05) with values of 28.5 mg, 49% and 26.7 mg, 31%, respectively. Meanwhile, all larvae fed with bloodworm (Chironomus sp.) or artificial diet (49% protein) died within 10 days of experiment. For the 2nd phase, growth of the fry fed with Artemia or Moina differed significantly from that fed with bloodworm or pellet (200.1, 187.7, 109.6 and 8.2 mg, respectively). Specific growth rate (SGR) of larvae fed with Moina was higher than that of larvae fed with Artemia (17.9 and 17.4% day$^{-1}$, respectively) in the 1st phase. In the 2nd phase, SGRs of larvae fed with Artemia (12.7% day$^{-1}$) or Moina (11.5% day$^{-1}$) were significantly higher than those of larvae fed with bloodworm (8.3% day$^{-1}$) or dry diet (6.1% day$^{-1}$). Generally, Artemia and Moina were suitable food for snakehead larvae during the first month of their life, and artificial diet was much less acceptable and resulted in poor growth and survival.

The effect of water temperature and feed on the growth, survival, and body composition of juvenile abalone (Haliotis discus hannai) fed an artificial formulated diet and a macroalgae (Laminaria japonica) for 12 weeks was investigated. Rearing temperature was maintained at $13{\circ}C,\;16{\circ}C,\;19{\circ}C$ by heated and natural sea water temperatures $(7.5-10.2{\circ}C).$ Shell growth, weight gain, and survival rate of the abalone were affected by water temperature and diet (P<0.05). Survival and growth rate of the abalone fed with the formulated diet and Laminaria at $19{\circ}C$ was significantly higher than those of the abalone fed the formulated diet or Laminaria at $13{\circ}C,\;16{\circ}C,$ and ambient temperatures (P<0.05). Moisture, crude protein, crude lipid, and ash contents of the soft whole body were affected mainly by diet than rearing water temperature (P<0.05). These indicate that a mixture of formulated diet and macroalgae could improve the growth of the abalone independent of water temperature and heated water could improve the growth of abalone during the winter season.
To establish the successive rearing method of the perilla leaf pyralid, Prausta panopealis Walker, experiments were carried out wiht three diets based on a JAMSI-type artificial die for silkworm. On the SS4 diet containing 40% of perilla leaf powder the pupal and adult yields were higher than those on th fresh green perilla leaves.
Hatched-larvae of the mulberry longicorn beetle, Apriona germari Hope, collected from mulberry fields were reared on artificial diet at 25$^{\circ}$C with 14 h light and 10 h dark to study the larval developmental characteristics. Artificial diet developed for rearing silkworm was used with minor modification adding mulberry branch powder. In case of artificial diet rearing, the head width of larval instar from the I st to the 12th instars was ranged from 0.12 to 0.69cm, and growth rate of each instar was significantly high between the I st and the 2nd instars. In addition, the weight of the 8th instar larvae was increased approximately 176-fold in comparision with that of the 1st instar larvae. Larval duration of each instar took long with larval developmental stages, and that of the 1st to the 9th or the 12th instars was 186.03 or 304.58 days, respectively. The survival rate of larvae was 40.8% by the 8th instar. The pupation rate was approximately 32.4%. Furthermore, although pupation stage was broadly appeared from the 7th to the I lth instars, pupation was majorly observed at the 8th and the 9th instars.
The apple leafminer, Phyllonorycrer ringoniella (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), is the most important pest on apple leaves and is not easy to be controlled with insecticides because of leafmining habit of its larvae. This study was undertaken to develop an artificial diet for mass rearing of the moth, and to look at their reproductive behavior. For developing an artificial diet the problem of diet contamination with microorganisms and how to supply artificial diet to first instar larvae have to be solved first. Artificial oviposition trial was successful with shadowy bottomside of various papers sprayed with apple leaf extracts. The highest activity of both calling and mating was observed within 30 min. after the onset of photophase and 3- to 4-day -old adults showed the highest mating rate. A ring-shaped sex pheromone gland was found at the intersegmental membrane between the 8th and 9th abdominal segments of the female. (E, 2)-4,lOtetradecadienyl acetate was identified as the major component from the femall gland extracts by the gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry. Additionally it was thought that (a-10-tetradecenyl acetate could be the second component of their sex pheromone.
In the hemolymph proteins of the silkworm reared with mulberry leaves and artificial diet, electrophoretic patterns of Storege Protein 1 (SP1) and Vitellogenin(VG), changes of relative concentration of SP1, JHA effects during the developmental stages, and estimation of the molecular weight of vitellin subunits were investigated in the present study. 1. Storage Protein 1 (SP1) showed female specificity from the middle stage of the fifth instar to the end of spinning stage in the silkworm reared with mulberry leaves and artificial diet. 2. Vitellogenin (VG) showed female specififcity just afrter pupation in the silkworm reared with mulberry leaves and artificial diet. 3. Storage Protein 2 (SP2) without female specificity was detected from the early stage of the fifth instar to the first or second day after pupation. 4. Vitellin was composed of two non-identical subunits (vitellin-heavy chain ; VTL-H, vitellinlight chain ; VTL-L) with mplecular weight of 186,000 and 41,000. Also, there were no differenes between the molecular weights of vitellin subunits obtained from silkworms reared with mulberry leaves and artificial diet. 5. Relative concentration of Storage Protein 1 (SP1) after topical application - 0.5, and 10$\mu\textrm{g}$ per body weight - JHA on the 60th hour of the fifth instar showed the highest increase with the treatment of 5$\mu\textrm{g}$ and a higher increase with the treatment of 10$\mu\textrm{g}$ compared with the control (no topical application of JHA).

Nymph of the emma field cricket, Teleogryllus emma, were reared on several types of artificial diets. The development period of nymphs were 55.4 days when only a single food, wheat bran, was provided, and it did not show a significant difference compared to the rearing results of the Danong diet and mixed diet. The supplying period of fish meal as the animal feed, the high emergence rates were obtained at 3rd instar with 90% and 4th instar with 100%. For the added amount test, when more than 40% of the diet was added, it confirmed that the insect weight increased. The characteristics of development according to each added amount of the vegetable food (dry bean-curd residue and corn powder) were investigated to minimize the dangers of the degeneration of diet when rearing with a single feed during the $1st{\sim}3rd$ instar period. First, as the added amount of bean-curd residue increased, nymphal development period became longer and the emergence rate became low. With corn powder as the single diet, all died before becoming adult. However, when corn powder was added up to 30%, no difference existed in the breeding results.

; This study investigated the improvement effects of artificial rice containing Curcuma longa L. on lipid parameters in 3T3-L1 cells and C57BL/6J mice. Mice were divided into four groups, normal diet group (ND), high-fat diet group (HD), 20% artificial group (A20), and 20% Curcuma longa L. artificial rice group (C20), for 14 weeks. Adipogenesis was significantly suppressed compared with non-treated control at a concentration of $20{\mu}g/mL$. After the animal experiment, food efficiency ratio was elevated in the experimental group due to high-fat diet, whereas it was reduced in the A20 group and significantly reduced in the C20 group. Epididymal fat pad weight was significantly diminished in the C20 group. In addition, serum triglycerides were significantly reduced in the A20 and C20 groups compared to the HD group. Moreover, serum cholesterol level tended to decrease in the A20 group and significantly decreased in the C20 group compared with the HD group. According to these results, we can know that Curcuma longa L.-containing artificial rice has an improvement effect on lipid metabolism.
Development of pellet-type artificial diet for insect was tried by using a twin screw extruder(TSE). Screws were arranged several times and two reverse screws were equipped on the foreparts of 2 axes of TSE. Pellet-type diet could be produced successfully under conditions of TSE set as the following. : 300 rpm of main motor speed, 228 rpm of feed motor speed, $75m{\ell}/min$ of running water speed and 5 mm of extrusion diameter. The optimum adding quantity of water to the manufactured diet was $1.2{\sim}1.5$ times of dry diet. On the rearing results of beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua and common cutworm, Spedoptera litura with the pellet-type diet, the final survival ratio (emergence rate) of these two species was over than 50%, and so it was concluded that the manufactured pellet-type artificial diet was sufficient dietetically to rear those insects.
This treatise was sat up as a basic study of the artificial diets of silk worm, both nursed and wild, by storing the natural leaves in defarmentizing solution and the results obtained were as followings. 1. Defarmentizer C, a kind of defarmentizer, was developed by the author in order to store any natural diet by soaking them in the solution. 2. The defarmentizer was workable for aerophobic bacteriums, but was not effectable for aerophilic bacteriums or fungus. 3. The defarmentized diet could feed silk worm during winter season. 4. The storing method has found the importance of growthness of the diet leaves and the perfect riped leaves were found as the best condition for the purpose. 5. The perfect riped leaves were softened properly during the soaking to be fed for silk worm. 6. The defarmentizing solution has held almost the same pH value of protein isoelectric point so that the protein extraction be ceased during the soaking process. 7. The utilization of defarmentizer has found an economical value. 5. The analytical results of various wild plant leaves were found to be usable as the artificial diet mixture for general silkworm.
