The study was designed to investigate the effects of Palmul-Tang(PMT) on the change of cerebral hemodynamics [regional cerebral blood flow(rCBF), pial arterial diameter(PAD) and mean arterial blood pressure(MABP)] in normal and cerebral ischemic rats. The change of rCBF and MABP were determinated by laser-doppler flowmetry(LDF), and the change of PAD was determinated by video-microscopy. The results in normal rats were as follows ; PMT significantly increased rCBF and PAD in a dose-dependent, and PMT increased MABP in a dose-dependent. This results were suggested that PMT significantly increased rCBF by dilating PAD. The results in cerebral ischemic rats were as follows ; Both rCBF and PAD were significantly and stably increased by PMT(10㎎/㎏, i.p.) during the period of cerebral reperfusion, which contrasted with the findings of rapid and marked increase in control group. The present authors thought that PMT had an anti-ischemic effect through the improvement of cerebral hemodynamics.
An adequate exposure is important in thoracoscopic procedures. The insufflation of $CO_2$has been demonstrated to aid in compressing lung parenchyma, and act as a retractor when combined with changes in patient's position. However, a recent study demonstrated that $CO_2$insufflation during thoracoscopy in the pig has adverse hemodynamic consequences. We prospectively studied 12 patients undergoing thoracoscopy to evaluate the effect of $CO_2$insufflation in the clinical setting. The mean arterial pressure, heart rate, central venous pressure, arterial oxygen saturation, and end-tidal $CO_2$pressure were monitored. Measurements were determined at baseline, at the initiation of one-lung ventilation, and at intrapleural pressure of 5, 10, 15 mmHg and following results were obtained. 1) The insufflation of 5 to 15 mmHg of $CO_2$had no significant effect on the mean arterial pressure, heart rate, arterial oxygen saturation. 2) The end-tidal $CO_2$pressure rose from 31.00$\pm$1.67 mmHg to 38.49$\pm$1.82 mmHg at an intrapleural pressure of 15 mmHg(p<0.05). 3) The central venous pressure rose from 7.75$\pm$0.76 mmHg to 12.83$\pm$1.64 mmHg and 16.16$\pm$l.97mmHg at an intrapleural pressure of 10 and 15 mmHg(p<0.05). 4) The low pressure (<10 mmHg) insufflation is a safe adjunct to the conduct of thoracoscopic surgical procedures.
For developing a wireless implantable device to monitoring the artery variation in real-time. The concept of a special vessel variation measurement capacitive sensor is presented in this paper. The sensor consists of two part; main sensor to measuring the arterial variation, and reference sensor is used to improve the accuracy of the capacitance value variation. Before sensor manufacture, a model of the sensor attached on the artery was designed in 3D to conduct in the FEA simulation to validate the validity and feasibility of the idea. The artery model was designed as layered structures and made of collagenous soft tissues with intima inside, followed by the media and the adventitia. Also, a grease layer was designed in the inner of the arterial wall to imitate the clogged arteries. The simulation was divided into two parts; sensor performance test by changing the diameter of the grease layer, and arterial wall tension test by changing the blood pressure. As the simulation results, the capacitance value measured by the proposed sensor is decreased follow the diameter of the grease increased. Also, large elastic deformation of the arterial wall since changing the blood pressure has been observed.

The study was designed to investigate the effects of Mixture of Yukgunja-tang and Bambusae Caulis in Liquamen (YTBCL) on the change of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) in rats, and further to determine the mechanism of action of YTBCL. The results in rats were as follows ; YTBCL 25 ${\mu}l$ significantly decreased rCBF and MABP compared with basal condition. YTBCL 100 ${\mu}l$ significantly increased rCBF compared with basal condition, but decreased MABP compared with basal condition. YTBCL 50 ${\mu}l$ significantly increased rCBF compared with basal condition, but MABP was somewhat decreased compared with basal condition. The VTBCL 50 ${\mu}l$-induced increase in rCBF was significantly inhibited by pretreatment with methylene blue (10 ${\mu}g$/kg, i.p.), an inhibitor of guanylate cyclase and indomethacin (1 mg/kg, i.p.), an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase. The YTBCL 50 ${\mu}l$-induced decreased MABP significantly increased by pretreatment with methylene blue but was inhibited by indomethacin. This results were suggested that the mechanism of YTBCL was mediated Dy guanylate cyclase.
Objectives: The present study was carried out to investigate the effects of Yupoongyangyeong-tang(YYT) on changes of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) in rats. In addition, the author also investigated action mechanisms of YYT on changes in rCBF and MABP. Methods and Results : In this study, treatment with YYT elevated rCBF in a dose-dependent manner, but MABP levels were elevated only in the 10 mg/ml treatment group. Pre-treatment with indomethacin. an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, inhibited increase of rCBF effectively. Pre-treatment with methylene blue, an inhibitor of guanylate cyclase, inhibited increase of rCBF induced by YYT, too. In addition. pre-treatment with indomethacin also inhibited increase of MABP. However, pre-treatment with methylene blue did not affect MABP levels. Conclusion : These results suggest that YYT is useful to treat patients with diseases related to cerebral ischemia, because YYT can increase rCBF. In addition, the mechanisms are thought to be related to both cyclooxygenase and guanylate cyclase.

This experimental studies were done to investigate the effects of Sambutang(SBT) and consitituent herbs on the regional cerebral blood flow(rCBF) and mean arterial blood pressure(BP) in rats. The results are as follows: SBT and consitituent herbs(SBT omitting Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens. Ginseng Radix and Aconiti iateralis preparata Radix) was increased rCBF significantly in a dose-dependent manner. SBT omitting Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens and Ginseng Radix were decreased significantly BP in rats. But, SBT, Aconiti iateralis preparata Radix and Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens were not affected BP in rats. According to the above findings. it is suggested that SBT causes a diverse response of rCBF, and specially the rCBF by increasing SBT is mediated action of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens.
To compare cardiopulmonary effects and recovery between total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) with propofol (PRO group, n=5) and volatile induction/maintenance anesthesia (VIMA) with isoflurane (ISO group, n=5), we investigated changes of heart rate, $SpO_2$, arterial pressure, rectal temperature and respiratory rate during 60 minute anesthesia and 40 minute recovery period in beagle dogs, and investigated recovery (extubation, head lift, sternal position and righting) after 60 minute anesthesia. Rectal temperature was significantly low in ISO group (p<0.05) from 10 to 100 minute. Heart rate was significantly low in ISO group (p<0.05) at 40, 50, 60 minute. Respiratory rate was significantly low in PRO group (p<0.05) at induction and 70 minute. $SpO_2$ tendency was similar. Systolic arterial pressure (SAP) was significantly low in ISO group (p<0.05) at induction and during anesthesia. Recovery was similar in two groups. We concluded that TIVA with propofol is useful in stabilizing rectal temperature and arterial pressure during anesthesia and provide fast and stable recovery.
As the importance of cardiovascular health is highlighted, research on its correlation with blood pressure, the most important indicator, is being actively conducted. Therefore, extensive clinical data is essential, but the measurement of the central arterial blood pressure waveform must be performed invasively within the artery, so the quantity and quality are limited. This study suggested a mock circulatory robot and artificial aorta to reproduce the blood pressure waveform generated by the overlap of forward and reflected waves. The artificial aorta was fabricated with biomimetic silicone to mimic the physiological structure and vascular stiffness of the human. A pressurizing chamber was implemented to prevent distortion of the blood pressure waveform due to the strain-softening of biomimetic silicone. The reproduced central arterial blood pressure waveforms have similar magnitude, shape, and propagation characteristics to humans. In addition, changes in blood pressure waveform due to aging were also reproduced by replacing an artificial aorta with various stiffness. It can be expanded to construct a biosignal database and health sensor testing platform, a core technology for cardiovascular health-related research.
This study was performed to evaluate cardiopulmonary depressant effects of enflurane (1.0 vol%) combined with propofol(0.25 mg/kg/min) compared with enflurane inhalation, and propofol infusion, respectively, in 18 healthy dogs premedicated with acepromazine and atropine. After bolus injection of propofol 5 mg/kg for induction and tracheal intubation, they were randomly assigned to 3 groups: propofol 0.5 mg/kg/min infusion (Group I, n=6), enflurane 2.5 vol% (Group II, n=6) and enflurane 1.0 vol% combined with propofol 0.25 mg/kg/min (Group III, n=6). Mean arterial Pressure (MAP), systolic arterial pressure (SAP) and diastolic arterial pressure (DAP) were depressed significantly in all groups, especially in Group II. MAP, SAP and DAP values of Group IIIwere higher than those of Group II, but lower than those of Group I. The changes of PaO$_2$, Pa$CO_2$and pHa were similar in all groups. Respiration rates were decreased in all groups 5 minutes after induction but maintained in normal range. Those of Group I were less depressant than those of Group II and Group III. Concentrations of $Na^+ and Cl^-$ were increased and those of $K^+$ were decreased in all groups, but their values were quitely similar. Heart rate was changed in small range and the value of Group I was higher than those of Group II and Group III. Body temperature was decreased significantly in all groups. Adverse effects like as muscle rigidity, nausea or vomiting and shivering were not appeared and apnea at induction was occured 6 dogs. From the these results, enflurane 1.0 vol% combined with propofol 0.25 mg/kg/min also could be applied for anesthesia in dogs.
