예술작품을 통해 나타난 패션의 하이퍼리얼리티 연구 (A Study on Hyper-Reality of Fashion by Work of Art)

  • The rapid growth and influence of digital technologies have had a profound effect on modern society. Companies and businesses can connect through SNS(social network service accounts). The importance of mass media empowers the creation of virtual images that are more realistic than time and space. Unlike traditional reproduction or imitation, the virtual images created in this way are reproduced in a form that lacks the original inspiration's essence. Jean Baudrillard described this phenomenon as the theory of simulation. Baudrillard argued that imitated simulated images replace reality. He stated that reality is lost under excessive images in modern society. In response, based on an understanding of the theory of hyper-reality that emerged through the late stages of the order of simulacre, this study aimed to analyze modern fashion's method of reproducing hyper-real images and investigate the method's characteristics. This study examined the characteristics of hyper-reality described by Baudrillard and analyzed the method of artistic expression of hyper-reality. Based on this method of expression, reproducibility, following the stages of image simulation, was derived. A specific case applied to fashion was analyzed, and based on the image reproduction method, specific characteristics of hyper-reality characteristics in fashion were obtained. Sixty-four collections were selected, out of which 155 images and 43 brands demonstrated the principles of image transformation.

Patterns and Collections: Carpets from Central Asia in the Imperial Russian Imagination

  • With the expansion of the Russian Empire southward in the nineteenth century, connoisseurs, art historians, and scholars in Russia began to pay attention to carpet traditions in the new territories of the Russian Empire in Turkestan. In journals and other specialty publications, they underscored a need to establish claims to authority over the knowledge of the traditional craft. They were highly attuned to parallel accounts of carpet weaving from regions that had a longer history of research and collecting of carpets. In contrast to the situation in Western Europe or the United States, commentators bemoaned the fact that the public and even professed experts in Russia did not properly appreciate carpets from the Caucasus and Central Asia. These scholars articulated a need to establish authority over the carpet weaving traditions of Russia's colonial possessions, resulting in a push toward a serious study of carpet weaving as a legitimate field of inquiry. This paper uses published sources on early carpet scholarship from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to examine how carpet weaving traditions in Central Asia entered an imperial discourse of knowledge. It argues that attempts to understand and categorize carpet weaving as an art form occurred along two fronts. Intellectuals and scholars attempted to wrest control over the locus of knowledge from experts in the West as well as from local weavers. In the process, they established a distinctly imperial vision of carpet weaving in contrast to competing imperial discourses and over traditional forms of knowledge.

A virtual shaker testing experience: Modeling, computational methodology and preliminary results

  • This work illustrates the progress of a TAS activity at exploring the challenges and the benefits of the Virtual Shaker Testing (VST) approach. The definition and the validation of new computational methodologies with respect to the state of the art were encouraged throughout this activity. The shaker Finite Element (FE) model in lateral configuration was built for the purpose and it was merged with the SpaceCraft (S/C) FE model, together with the S/C-Shaker adapter. FE matrices were reduced through the Craig-Bampton method. The VST transient analysis was performed in MATLAB(R) numerical computing environment. The closed-loop vibration control is accounted for and the solution is obtained through the fourth-order Runge Kutta method. The use of pre-existing built-in functions was limited by authors with the aim of tracing the impact of all the problems' parameters in the solution. Assumptions and limitations of the proposed methodology are detailed throughout this paper. Some preliminary results pertaining to the current progress of the activity are thus illustrated before the conclusions.

Noise Reduction using Fuzzy Mathematical Morphology

  • Mathematical morphology (MM) has been introduced as a powerful tool for studying the geometrical properties of images, MM is a good approach to digital image processing , which is based on the shape feature. The MM operators such as dilation, erosion, closing and opening have been applied successfully to image noise reduction. The MM filters can easily filter the noise when the noise factors are known. However it is very difficult to reduce the noise when images are ambiguous, because the boundary between the noise and object is vague. In this paper, we propose a new method to reduce noise from ambiguous images by using Fuzzy Mathematical Morphology (FMM) operators. Performance evaluation via simulations show that the FMM filters efficiently reduce the image noise. Furthermore, the FMM filters show a good performance compared with the conventional filters.

  • Furniture is a medium to interconnect the living space to human, and it is the closest environmental element that limits the functions of the space, defines the style of the living, and adjusts the actions and behaviors of human. Therefore the furniture can be said to be one of the craft arts that reflects the culture and living style as they are according to the periodical, regional, and social stratum characteristics. Within this context, this study tries to suggest new design and living culture that can harmonize with the modern residence living culture and incorporate the traditional varnishing technique with lacquer that had been discontinued. Coming to the modern days, the varnishing with lacquer is getting attention again with its environment friendly characteristics and antibiotic functions, and is being applied to various applications. To inherit and maintain such an excellent traditional culture, I would like to improve the practicality by applying to modern furniture, and to contribute to develop and tell the world about the superiority of our culture.

  • In February 1947, Christian Dior startled the world with his spring collection. He transformed the unflattering square shouldered outline of women's wartime fashion overnight. It was not only fashion that made a pivotal point for opulence and elegance, The style of architecture, furniture, glass, and silverware also made a radical change. The new style emerged after war called " organic modernism'. This study is to define the visual characteristics of fashion, architecture, furniture and craft after World War II and examine the social factors and aesthetics that generated a new style. The common asthetic characteristics are freedom, abstraction of symbolic from, asymmetry, and exaggeration of form. The social factors, values and aesthetics are economic reconstruction and renaissance of design , technical development and new materials, fredom and optimistic view after the holocaust of war, and organic aesthetics and humanism.

Endochronic simulation for the response of 1020 carbon steel tubes under symmetric and unsymmetric cyclic bending with or without external pressure

  • This paper presents the theoretical simulation of the response of 1020 carbon steel tubes subjected to symmetric and unsymmetric cyclic bending with or without external pressure by using the endochronic theory. Experimental data of 1020 carbon steel tubes tested by Corona and Kyriakides (1991) were used for evaluating the theoretical simulation. Several cases were considered in this study, they were symmetric bending without external pressure, symmetric bending with external pressure, unsymmetric bending without external pressure, and unsymmetric bending with external pressure. The responses of the moment-curvature, ovalization-curvature and ovalization-number of cycles with or without external pressure were discussed. It has been shown that the theoretical simulations of the responses correlate well with the experimental data.

  • The objective of this study was to increase the utilizability of domestic thinning and small diameter wood as applying in pattern design which can be used in interior decoration, wood craft and wood furniture, and in developing the designs of furniture and household items. We investigated the physical and mechanical characteristics of Betula platyphylla Wood by pressurization and heat treatment. Color change is clear, and the wood density is increased with increasing pressing rate. The compressive strength, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity in bending strength are decreased as heating time is increased after pressing. However, shrinkage is improved after pressing and heating.

  • In modern period, the houses are the most outstanding works by architects in which they develop their architectural identical theory and new color design concept has been established with the appearance of modern new art. This study is to summarize and analysis the characteristics of color design in 9 outstanding modern houses according to the historic artistic period, from 'arts and craft movement' to modernism. The result will re-analyze theory on the history of modern houses and support the identity of the modern houses. The research method is based on book review and in detail, the analysis on color design were proceeded by comparison with color picture of interior space of the houses.

집성재를 이용한 목공예품의 개발 (Development of Wooden Artifacts with Laminated Lumber)

  • Laminated lumber is an engineered wood products using stress rated, seasoned and selected lumber. Each piece of lumber is graded, and then end jointed to produce the required length. This study was carried out to investigate the possibility of wooden artifacts with laminated lumber. It is expected through this research that wooden artifacts, which have originality and local character, can be developed by making design of wooden artifacts through the use of plentiful resources around the local area. A development of new design products, an improvement of distributive structure and the achievement of international competitiveness will contribute to develop the industrial artifacts art in Korea. And, it is necessary to develop a corporation system between industrial craft companies and universities.
