The design and implementation of planar Active Phased Array Antenna System are described in this paper. This Antenna system operates at X-band with its bandwidth 10 % and dual polarization is realized using dual slot feeding microstrip patch antenna and SPDT(Single Pole Double Through) switch. Array Structure is $16\times16$ triangular lattice structure and each array is composed of TR(Transmit & Receive) module with more than 40 dBm power. Each TR module includes digital attenuator and phase shifter so that antenna beam can be electronically steered over a scan angle$({\pm}60^{\circ})$. Measurement of antenna pattern is conducted using a near field chamber and the results coincide with the expected beam pattern. From these results, it can be convinced that this antenna can be used with control of beam steering and beam shaping.

This paper presents the analysis of increasing the resolution of True-Time-Delay (TTD) by 0.5-bit for phased-array antenna system which is one of the Multiple-Input and Multiple Output (MIMO) technologies. For the analysis, a 5.5-bit True-Time Delay (TTD) integrated circuit is designed and analyzed in terms of beam steering performance. In order to increase the number of effective bits, the designed 5.5-bit TTD uses Single Pole Triple Throw (SP3T) and Double Pole Triple Throw (DP3T) switches, and this method can minimize the circuit area by inserting the minimum time delay of 0.5-bit. Furthermore, the circuit mostly maintains the performance of the circuit with the fully added bits. The idea of adding 0.5-bit is verified by analyzing the relation between the number of bits and array elements. The 5.5-bit TTD is designed using 0.18 ㎛ RF CMOS process and the estimated size of the designed circuit excluding the pad is 0.57×1.53 mm2. In contrast to the conventional phase shifter which has distortion of scanning angle known as beam squint phenomenon, the proposed TTD circuit has constant time delays for all states across a wide frequency range of 4 - 20 GHz with minimized power consumption. The minimum time delay is designed to have 1.1 ps and 2.2 ps for the 0.5-bit option and the normal 1-bit option, respectively. A simulation for beam patterns where the 10 phased-array antenna is assumed at 10 GHz confirms that the 0.5-bit concept suppresses the pointing error and the relative power error by up to 1.5 degrees and 80 mW, respectively, compared to the conventional 5-bit TTD circuit.

The hybrid phase shifting device is consist of general phase shifter in sub-array and the true time delay inter sub-array. This configuration for phased shifting can efficiently improve the beam squint according to frequencies. However, when an appropriate array configuration is not selected, a gain variation of main lobe for a phased array antenna is occurred. In order to solve these problems, a simplified formula for constructing efficient array based on the system design requirements, such as the fractional bandwidth, the maximum beam steering angle, and limit criterion of the gain variation, was presented.
This paper proposed a microstrip antenna that can perform jamming of satellite signals from the GPS L5, GLONASS G3, BDS B2 frequency bands (1164 - 1217 MHz) that are employed mainly for military purposes among the GNSS frequencies using unmanned aircrafts over the enemy's sky in time of emergency. The single element in the proposed antenna can be easily mounted to unmanned aircrafts. This study analyzed the characteristics of miniaturization and beam of radiating elements by applying the image theories and perturbation effect to satisfy the uniform level at ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ of beam steering goal due to the phase delay after antenna array. The designed microstrip antenna had a miniaturized radiating element area (x-y plane), which was reduced by 76.3% compared to that of basic microstrip antenna, and its beam width was $190^{\circ}$ in the E-plane and $140^{\circ}$ in the H plane. In addition, the simulation was conducted to determine the characteristics due to the phase delay by arranging the designed single microstrip antenna by $1{\times}4$ array and the results showed that beam steering of ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ is possible in the H-plane on the basis of $0^{\circ}$. Thus, the proposed antenna was verified to be effective in satellite signal jamming in the air as it was attached to the lower end of unmanned aircrafts.

In this work, an aperture-coupled patch array antenna with wideband characteristics was designed and arrayed in a $4{\times}1$ S-band. The designed antenna structure consists of two layers, and it possesses wideband characteristics achieved using coupling between the two layers. The first layer is comprised of four radiation patches and the second layer has an aperture and a ground plane. The antenna structure possesses 15 % wideband characteristics and the center frequency is at 3.2 GHz. A phase shifter was added to the array antenna to enable beam steering. The proposed phase array antenna was fabricated and measured. Our proposed design enables beam steering up to $35^{\circ}$.

We propose a novel $4{\times}4$ Hadamard matrix feed network for a $4{\times}1$ array antenna to form a dual beam. If each element of the array is excited following the elements in a row of the Hadamard matrix, a two-lobed antenna beam can be obtained. The angle between the two lobes can be controlled. The Hadamard matrix feed network consists of four $90^{\circ}$ hybrids, a crossover and four $90^{\circ}$ phase shifters. The array, including the Hadamard matrix feed network, was fabricated on a microstip structure. The measured beam directions of the two lobes are $0^{\circ}$, ${\pm}15^{\circ}$, ${\pm}33^{\circ}$, ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ depending on the choice of the input port of the feed network.

This paper describes the design, fabrication, and measurement of a omni-directional beam pattern antenna for base station of the BIS which is one of the ITS services. The antenna is installed on the signal lamp of important crossroad and provides the wireless communication link between vehicles and RSE(Road Side Equipment). The required characteristics of BIS base station antenna are omni-directional beam pattern and specific beam pattern by the road and install environment and installed place of OBU. To get omni-directional beam pattern of antenna, Array configuration and OMA are applied. The measured results of fabricated antenna are as follows; return loss of 640MHz by -10 dB, and a gain of 10.3dBi. It is found that the measured beam patterns are similar to design results.

A full digital receiving active phased array antenna generates final receiving beams by digital beam forming of received digital signals in element-level that makes difficult to use typical near-field measurement method. Thus in this paper, a modified near-field measurement method which is suitable for full digital receiving active phased array antenna is proposed. Also the measured results of receiving beam pattern and G/T using developed L-band full digital receiving active phased array antenna are shown for the verification of proposed method.

In this paper, a 2.6 GHz switched parasitic array(SPA) antenna is designed to resolve the device interference in the femtocell. The designed SPA antenna structure consists of a central ${\lambda}/4$ monopole antenna as a radiator and surrounding four parasitic elements operating as a reflector or a director depending on the switching state. In addition, open state monopoles around the parasitic elements are placed to improve the directivity. The designed antenna utilizes RF FETs as switching elements instead of conventional PIN diodes, which enables beam steering with a simple structure consuming low power. To select the proper FET switch, the performance of the SPA antenna depending on the switch characteristics is analyzed. The fabricated antenna has 65 mm radius and 35 mm height, which shows about 15 dB front-back-ratio(FBR) at 2.6 GHz and enables eight-directional beam steering.

A compact and broadband $4\times1$ array antenna was developed for 3G smart antenna system testbed. The $4\times1$ uniform linear away antenna was designed to operate at 1.885 to 2.2GHz with a total bandwidth of 315MHz. The array elements were based on the novel broadband L-probe fed inverted hybrid E-H (LIEH) shaped microstrip patch, which offers 22% size reduction to the conventional rectangular microstrip patch antenna. For steering the antenna beam, a commercial variable attenuator (KAT1D04SA002), a variable phase shifter (KPH350SC00) with four units each, and the corporate 4-ways Wilkinson power divider which was fabricated in-house were integrated to form the beamforming feed network. The developed antenna has an impedance bandwidth of 17.32% $(VSWR\leq1.5)$, 21.78% $(VSWR\leq2)$ with respect to center frequency 2.02GHz and with an achievable gain of 11.9dBi. The design antenna offer a broadband, compact and mobile solution for a 3G smart antenna testbed to fully characterized the IMT-2000 radio specifications and system performances.
