Low impact development (LID) technique is relatively new concept to reduce surface runoff and pollutant loading from land cover by attempting to match predevelopment condition with various integrated management practices (IMPs). In this study, computational model for designing and evaluating LID, named LIDMOD, was developed based on SCS-CN method and applied at Andong bus terminal to evaluate LID applicapability and design retention/detention area for volume or peak flow control. LIDMOD simulated with 21 years simulation period that yearly surface runoff by post-development without LID was significantly higher than that with LID showing about 2.8 times and LID could reduce efficiently yearly surface runoff with 75% reduction of increased runoff by conventional post development. LIDMOD designed detention area for volume/peak flow control with 20.2% of total area by hybrid design. LID can also efficiently reduce pollutant load from land cover. Pollutant loads from post-development without LID was much higher than those from pre-development with showing 37 times for BOD, 2 times for TN, and 9 times for TP. Pollutant loads from post-development with LID represented about 57% of those without LID. Increasing groundwater recharge reducing cooling and heating fee, creating green refuge at building area can be considered as additional benefits of LID. At the point of reducing runoff and pollutant load, LID might be important technique for Korean TMDL and LIDMOD can be useful tool to calculate unit load for the case of LID application.

The influences of inland pollution sources because of rainfall events on the bacteriological water quality in Geoje Bay, a major shellfish production area in Korea, were investigated. The sanitary status of sea water and shellfish after rainfall events was also evaluated. The flow rates of 13 streams around Geoje Bay showed 6 to 7-fold increases after 15 to 21 mm of rainfall. Peak pollution was observed in the Naegan Stream, the Gandeok Stream and the Seojeong Stream. The calculated impact area of inland pollution sources was 3.1 $km^2$ immediately after 15 mm of rainfall and expanded to 3.5 $km^2$ after 24 hours. These calculations of impacted area matched results from fecal coliform analyses with sea water. The distance between the major pollution source in the bay (the Gandeok Stream) and the station with the worst bacteriological water quality immediately after 15 mm of rainfall, which was below the Korean standard, was 0.8 km in a straight line; this distance increased to 2.0 km after a period of 24 hours. The area impacted by inland pollution sources after a 15 mm rainfall event was wider than after a 21 mm rainfall. Although the flow rate from inland pollution sources was higher, the concentration of fecal coliform in the discharged water was lower after higher rainfall events. These observations corresponded with the results of fecal coliform analyses with sea water samples. According to the evaluation of the influences of inland pollution sources and fecal coliform analyses on sea water and shellfish samples in Geoje Bay, pollutants from inland sources did not reach the boundary line of the shellfish growing area after rainfall events of 15 or 22 mm. The bacteriological water quality of the shellfish growing area in Geoje Bay met the Korean standard and US NSSP requirements for approved shellfish growing areas.

In order to evaluate the effect of nitrogen application levels on yield and protein content of rice varieties, a field experiment was conducted at National Institute of Crop Science of Korea in 2020. Five levels(0, 3, 5, 7, and 9 kg·10a-1) of nitrogen fertilizer were treated to six Korean rice varieties. The nitrogen uptake amount, soil nitrogen content before and after rice cultivation, milled rice yield, and protein content in head rice were analyzed. As the treatment of nitrogen fertilizer increased, the nitrogen uptake amount of plants increased significantly. However, changes in nitrogen content in the soil before and after rice cultivation were different for each cultivar. The amount of nitrogen change in the soil decreased as the amount of nitrogen application increased in the three cultivars of Haepum, Gopum, and Odae, and the other three cultivars showed the opposite trend. As a result of correlation analysis of nitrogen application amount, nitrogen uptake amount, milled rice yield, and protein content of head rice, the five varieties except for Haepum showed a high correlation between these factors. The amount of nitrogen application and nitrogen uptake of plant showed a positive correlation about the milled rice yield and protein content of head rice. In particular, the protein content in head rice appeared to be more affected by nitrogen uptake amount than nitrogen application amount. As a result of this study, the yield and protein content of rice had positive correlations with the level of nitrogen fertilizer, and had a high correlation with the nitrogen absorption of plants.
This study was carried out to analyze the pasting and antioxidant characteristics of cooked mixed grains consisting of germinated millet and rice with varying addition rates and cooking methods. In this study, we chose two foxtail millets: glutinous ('Samdachal') and non-glutinous ('Samdame'), along with a glutinous proso millet ('Ibaekchal'). Cooked mixed grain rice-added germinated millet was cooked by general and high pressure cooking methods, with and without fermented alcohol. The peak and trough viscosity of germinated millet were decreased significantly with increasing amounts of germinated millet. The phenolic compounds and radical scavenging activity of cooked rice-added germinated millet increased significantly with the addition of germinated millet (p<0.05). The total polyphenol contents of cooked rice-added germinated Samdachal, Samdame, and Ibaekchal were 127.74~194.11, 128.20~192.56, and $128.88{\sim}171.28{\mu}g\;GAE/g$, respectively. The total flavonoid contents were 13.79~30.23, 14.77~25.99, and $15.28{\sim}29.56{\mu}g\;CE/g$, respectively. DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities were 3.31~5.73 and 6.31~9.69 mg TE/100 g for cooked rice-added germinated Samdachal; 3.14~8.58 and 6.05~10.19 mg TE/100 g for Samdame; and 3.37~7.45 and 6.27~9.27 mg TE/100 g for Ibaekchal, respectively. In this study, phenolic compounds and radical scavenging activity of cooked mixed grain rice-added germinated millet with different addition rates and cooking methods can be used as basic data for manufacturing processed products.
Germinated brown rice (GBR) has received considerable attention over the last decade as a means of enhancing the nutritional value and health-promoting functions of rice. The effect of germination on the physicochemical and textural properties of brown rice (BR) was investigated in different rice varieties (Samkwang, Misomi, Chindeul, and Hyeonpum). Cooking properties, such as water absorption, expanded volume, and soluble solids were significantly increased by germination in all rice varieties. Textural properties (hardness, toughness, adhesiveness, and stickiness) of cooked samples were determined using a texture analyzer. Hardness and toughness were decreased by germination, whereas stickiness and adhesiveness increased significantly. These results revealed that germination leads to improvements in the cooking and eating properties of BR. In Rapid Visco Analyzer (RVA), significant reductions were observed for peak viscosity, break down, set back, and final viscosity after germination. Although the amylose content of Misomi was slightly decreased by germination, that of other varieties increased significantly. Germination induced no noticeable change in the average chain length of amylopectin in Misomi, Chindeul and Hyeonpum, but led to a significant increase in Samkwang.

DMZ has a lot of natural resources. Also there is very important position as a ecological and geographical. Meanwhile, development schemes and plans were established but that was development to only simple plan such as a tourism and income without communication with local residents. This study was tried to exhibit increasing income of residents in DMZ area using FGI (Focus Group Interview) and SWOT analysis. First of all, analyzed the status of forest resources and carried out a Focus Group Interview targeting residents who live in around DMZ, and then suggest an alternative to increasing income and regional development in Yanggu-gun by SWOT strategies. As a result, realistic plan for achieving regional development is deregulation of the laws related to forest land use conversion for the forest product in DMZ area. Military experts and forest experts have to inspect the area for considering the practical application of the regulation in protected areas directly. National or local government has to effort pursuing future business for regional development through the communication with residents in DMZ area.
During the 1990's, five new towns were constructed around Seoul such as Bun-Dang and Il-San. These new towns are very popular since they were created based on systemic urban planning and they provide various residential amenities. Many people consider them livable cities. Taking such advantages, other small-scale new public and private developments continued around those new towns and consequently created 'agglomerated region with new development'. The most representative area is Bun-Dang and north-western Yong-In area which are formed along the Seoul-Busan expressway. This area is a mega-community having more than one million residents in 2005.Judging from recent development trends in the Seoul metropolitan area, it is expected that the formation of other 'agglomerated region with new development' would be continued for the time being. This study is aimed to analyze the residential environment of Bun-Dang and north-western Yong-In and find implications to the management of 'agglomerated region with new development'. The relevant existing studies have their limits, only focusing on analyzing current conditions and pointing out current problems. This study could be differentiated from the existing analyses in that it conducted comprehensive analyses on various factors that constitute urban residential environment. The conclusion of this study was derived from diverse analyses of current development condition, residential sites, regional transportation, awareness of residents, and oversee cases.

The trapping efficacy of five commercially available sex pheromones manufactured in Korea, the Netherlands, North America, China, and Costa Rica was evaluated to determine the population dynamics of Spodoptera frugiperda and Mythimna loreyi and their relationships with the weather parameters of maize fields in Miryang, Gyeongnam Province, Korea in 2019. The results show that the sex pheromone manufactured in Costa Rica were more efficient at capturing S. frugiperda and M. loreyi than those manufactured in other countries. The lowest number of S. frugiperda moths were captured using sex pheromones manufactured in the Netherlands. We noted that more than four population peaks of both the moth species and weather parameters influenced the moth population dynamics in Miryang. A positive relationship was observed between the population of S. frugiperda and weather parameters, such as mean temperature, rainfall, and relative humidity, for sex pheromones manufactured in Korea. Furthermore, a positive relationship was recorded between the population of M. loreyi and wind speed for the sex pheromone manufactured in Korea. The results of this study suggest that the sex pheromones manufactured in Costa Rica are the best solution for the efficient capture of S. frugiperda and M. loreyi under typical weather conditions in the southern parts of Korea. In addition, the outcomes of this study are discussed in terms of population dynamics and integrated pest management for S. frugiperda and M. loreyi as alternatives to chemical management by maize producers. Further studies related to the continuous improvement in the capture efficiency of both moth species using sex pheromones are now needed.
Recently in Korea, soybean harvesting has been delayed due to rainfall during the harvesting season, resulting in a reduction in yield and seed quality. This study was conducted to analyze the changes in yield and seed quality during delayed harvest with rainfall treatment using different harvesting methods, including field harvesting and polyethylene film covering after cutting fully-matured soybean plants (PE covering after cutting), with two major Korean soybean cultivars (Glycine max L), Pungsannamulkong and Daewonkong. The shattering rate of Pungsannamulkong, which is higher than that of Daewonkong, increased up to 41.8% when the harvest was delayed for 40 days without rainfall treatment by harvesting with PE covering after cutting. The weight of 100 seeds tended to decrease slightly as harvesting was delayed. When Daewonkong was harvested using the PE covering after cutting method with rainfall treatment, the yield decreased to the lowest level with a 0.8 kg ha-1 daily reduction rate. Pungsannamulkong showed the lowest yield when harvested using PE covering after cutting without rainfall treatment with a 3.4 kg ha-1 daily reduction rate. The infected seed rate increased according to the harvest delay in both cultivars, and significant differences were observed according to rainfall treatment and harvesting method. The germination rate was maintained above 95% even after 40 days of delayed harvest if there was no rainfall treatment. However, with rainfall treatment, the germination rate was significantly lowered as harvesting time was delayed. In the field harvesting with rainfall treatment, the germination rate decreased to 77.2% for Daewonkong and 76.5% for Pungsannamulkong after 40 days of harvest delay. For the 100-seed weight, effects of individual treatments and interactions between treatments were not observed. In contrast, the effect of interactions between treatments on the shattering rate was significant in both cultivars, indicating that the shattering rate had the greatest impact on the yield changes during delayed harvest.
This study was conducted for the purpose of deriving implications by observing the changing patterns and characteristics of the farmland reduction area in urban vicinity with Gimhae city, Gyeongsangnam-do as the subject. In order to achieve this goal, we first examined the problems and possibilities of farmland reduction area in urban vicinity through a theoretical review. Additionally, the characteristics of land use and community were examined for Gimhae city, Gyeongsangnam-do. The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, for 35 years from 1981 to 2015, Gimhae decreased $50.52km^2$ of farmland, which is about 17.4 times that of Yoido, and about 69.4% of the decreased farmland area. Second, the decrease in agricultural land has been expanding to the whole of Gimhae City from 1990 to 2010, and has been continuing since 2010 around dong-area. Third, in the farmland reduction area in urban vicinity, the number of settlements increases rapidly, but the aging population also increases. Fourth, the composition of the community is getting complicated with the change of the members. Taken together, it is necessary to manage the area efficiently because rapid change is present in the farmland reduction area in urban vicinity. Based on this, the implications are summarized as follows. First, there is a change in land use due to the reduction of farmland not designated as agricultural development region. Therefore, it is necessary to supplement the farmland-conversion standard. Second, despite the fact that land use management has been carried out, there have been problems such as uncontrolled development due to the development pressure beyond institutional management, and therefore it is necessary to improve the structural defects of the pertinent legal system. Fourth, while the traditional farming activities are decreasing with the decrease of agricultural land area, the increase in farms with secondary jobs and the urban-rural interchanges organization's efforts can lead to increased visits from outsiders that seek rural tourism and experiential learning.
