A Study on the Interrelationship between Geometry and Nonlinear Figure of Space (기하학과 비선형 공간 형태의 상관성에 관한 기초 연구)

  • The paper raises a question in argument about the method of creating space depending on accidental creation by computer as the method of describing movement pattern, and emphasizes the role of the mathematics which may change the shape into the image or reflection, that is, data which human may understand and expect. If the mathematics could be the method of describing movement pattern, it may play a important role on the analysis of architectural space based on the idea of post-constructionism, which is likely to consider the modern architectural space recognized as the sequential frames containing movement, as the suspended state of the moving object. And then, this infinite series, 'the sum' of the suspended state, is not studied mathematically and scientifically, but is able to be shaped by reviewing the validity in mathematics about the nonlinear space. This is, therefore, the fundamental research in order to define the role of the mathematics in formation of space of contemporary architecture.

  • Past, teacher's facilities space of school arranges the desk by teacher's number and businesslike function a teacher's room and night-duty room, supplementary rest space, of considered 1 room from everything mean. But, these days, teacher's space is emphasized personality of individual study conversation between teachers and a rest etc. Even though the change of such use form is very important to teacher, it is true to be not considered much in architectural planning of existing school's facilities. Plan that correspond dividing use form of school affair meeting and business, individual study, a rest etc. of forward teacher space is to need. Therefore, I wish to suggest architectural data for general and efficient operation management of integrated school through this study.

Research on the Urban Ecological Space Changes under Modern Passive Industrialization Case Study of Zhengzhou City in China

  • Early in the communist era, many cities in modern China experienced a special period of passive industrialization during which the construction of urban spaces laid the spatial urban foundation. During this period, the city construction was carried out rapidly under the administrative intervention of the government. The passive industrialization caused by taking economic construction as the center made the city construction deviate from the correct track and resulted in a variety of problems. Focusing on ecological space change, this paper selects Zhengzhou as an example of many similar cities in China, and analyzes the impact of passive industrialization on urban ecological spaces from the perspectives of city scale, city layout and city construction management system. The analysis results reveal that the construction of urban ecological space under the influence of passive industrialization induced a lagging characteristic, led to insufficient integrity of urban ecological space, and placed great pressure on the urban environment. Finally, the paper puts forward some methods to optimize the urban ecological space.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the inclinations and expressions in contemporary architecture. Specially, we call this tendency and architectural movements as architectural metamorphosis. Metamorphosis in architecture present the core of the change of Forms and spirits in a change of outward shape and terrestrial identity. As in Ovid's extended dramatic poem of change and transformation, Metamorphoses, all Souls are deathless, and migrates from one form to another. Like these stories in Metamorphoses, Ovid tells the soul never dies, but leaps one form to anther, and can take any shape. So the architectural form, transformation and deformation in contemporary architecture means architectural sensations and cognitions can even approach the soul of form and shape under the transformation. The expressions and design strategies of metamorphosis in comtemporary architecture reveal continuous and sequential formations of space, linear structure with force and vector, rhythmical wavement and folding surface, lively wiggly flows of volumns and objects, and so on. Such qualities came from the periodical needs; separation of structure and surface, poly-surfacial movement, poly-sensual expression and experience, dematerialization and the dematerialized space, formless of non-formal architecture, digital architecture. Architecture of Metamorphosis is the ways and the needs of our period to overcome the static limits prohibits the liberal thoughts, to find the ways toward the opportunities and diversities and to unlock the imaginaire of the contemporary architecture.

A Study on the Baroque Characteristics Expressed in Architecture by Richard Meier (리처드 마이어 건축에 표현된 바로크적 특성 연구)

  • Baroque is fundamentally in contrast with renaissance style classicism, which attempted to fix a world view itself as the value of perpetuity. Furthermore, it is interpreted as a topic of incompletion or transformation that is not defined or is not exemplary and which may be enjoyed by people in the classical life, which requires a microscopic concept in contrast with dualism, the central axis of western civilization, namely, rational lucidity. Also, such characteristics are estimated to serve as a lubricant in life while going beyond the formal aesthetic level of art even from a contemporary perspective, and to play a productive role and to have potential. Consequently, this paper assumed that the concepts expressed by the 20th century US contemporary architect Richard Meier of a complex space, namely architectural formative vocabularies such as overlapping, interpenetration, collision, and collage style mixture created by a layered structure, in his architecture are in common with the double surface technique and juxtaposition of a flat structure of Baroque architecture. Then, the paper analyzed and considered the characteristics. The paper considered the following two issues: Such Baroque style formal principle is reinterpreted against a backdrop in which his architectural flow based on the domino theory of Le Corbusier became established as his own unique architectural feature, and it may be proposed as one big flow that enables us to seek again modernistic architecture that attempts to make an architectural space absolute as an atypical formal contour.

Pungsu(Fengshui) Research of Location and Space Layout of Lee Nam-Gyu's Traditional House

  • Purpose: Pungsu is can be seen as an ecological architectural science regarding native natural environment of east asia. Even though the language used in Pungsu is different from that of ecological architecture, Pungsu considered the surrounding environment of the traditional house by various Pungsu method for making and keeping more healthy life and sustainable environment. The research is for finding out how the surrounding natural environment was considered with Pungsu, a traditional ecological architectural science in case of site selection and planning house by the confucian scholar in late Joseon period. Method: Sudan Nam-Gyu Lee's traditional house of Yesan in the middle of korea is selected. The study is processed as follows. The site was analyzed with feature and flow of mountains expressed as dragon in chapter 2 and four important hills around the house are analyzed in chapter 3. Finally Pungsu applied in architectural space is analyzed in chapter 4. Result: we can see that the traditional house of Sudang Lee Nam-Gyu has been planned considering Pungsu in details to minimize the negative factors and utilize the positive factors of nature as much as possible thinking nearby natural environment as environmental factors that can affect the residents of the house through Pungsu.

A Study on Architectural Expressive Characteristic of 'Structure & Skin Integration' Type in Contemporary Architecture - Focused on the Architecture cases after 2000 - (현대건축에서 구조와 표피 일체화 유형의 건축적 표현특성 - 2000년 이후 건축 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This study tries to categorize trends of "structure and skin integration" and understand the expressive characters of each architectural type. To do so, we listed up 8 architects who are quoted twice or more in related researches, then analyzed their 25 contemporary buildings which integrated structure and skin since 2000. As a result, this study defined four types based on the way of building tectonic system of structure and skin. Key feature of "linear structure-two dimensional skin" type is the communication with the surroundings as a result of .geometric architectural forms, patterned surface and reflection. Characters of "linear-three dimensional" type are organic architectural forms, sculptural skin, and the mysterious space. "Planar-two dimensional" type is a transformational geometry form to express the dramatic images through the skin, therefore gives a sense of rhythm and dynamics to space. "Planar structure-three dimensional" type highlights the texture, and exposes boundary of the inside and outside. In architectures we studied, the structure is the way to make a creative forms and space, and the skin to express various meanings. That said, the "structure and skin integration" is the means of aggressive design expression.

A Study on Theo van Doesburg's Plastic Experiments with Colored Planes (반 두즈버르그의 색면 조형 실험에 관한 연구)

  • This research is to find out the characteristics and significance of the plastic experiments with colored planes in Theo van Doesburg's works. Based on the analysis, the following results have been obtained. First, Thea van Doesburg's plastic experiments with colored planes started from the paintings in 1916-1918. series and series were made of the ion of still life or human motion. These paintings were intended to make effects of rhythm, acceleration and simultaneity. Second, he colored the outer and inner architectural surface with primary colors. The expression of visual. rhythm on the color design for De Vonk, Districts Housing Projects VIII & IX in Spangen, Multi-Housing in Oosterstraat, Friesian Housing, Landbouw Winter School, and University Hall in Amsterdam embodied the concept of painting-in-architecture. Third, the field of these experiments were extended into the architectural space. As a results, $H\hat{o}tel$ Particulier and Maison d'Artiste was shown on the Architectural Exhibition in Paris in 1923. The colored planes were used as a construction material. They generated the dynamic space in architecture. Fourth, through the pictorial works like Architectural Analysis, Contra-Composition, Simultaneous Composition or Simultaneous Contra-Composition, Tesseract and Aubette Cinema-Dancing Hall, he created the concepts of simultaneous integration including nature and the environments as well as space-time in the architecture.

A Study on the 'Fragmentation-Assemblage' Design Method and Meaning found in the Architecture of David Chipperfield (데이비드 치퍼필드 건축에 나타난 '분절-집합'의 디자인 방법과 의미에 관한 연구)

  • Over the 30 years of practice, most of David Chipperfield's design projects shows that there are several unique design methods and characteristics applied in the design processes. 'Form Matters' exhibition held in London Design Museum in 2009 was crucial opportunity to summarize his architectural philosophy. The main target of this study is to analyze the Chipperfield's consistent design methods and their meaning based on his architectural philosophy. In chapter 2, his architectural background, early projects and the essence of 'Form Matters' exhibition were studied. In chapter 3, the projects built after 2000 were summarized and main design method that is 'Fragmentation & assemblage' were extracted from them. After selecting 6 case projects, each cases were analyzed in detail based on 3 analytical elements: A) Reason to segment the given volume into smaller volumes, B) Relationship between Fragmentation and Program, C) Relationship between Fragmentation-Assemblage and Interior/Exterior Space. In chapter 5, case analysis were summarized and deep meaning of design method were researched. This study founded that Chipperfield has used Fragmentation-Assemblage method to get 'flexible respond to site conditions', 'appropriate composition of program and space', 'various visual-perceptual experience through intermediary space and materiality'. As a conclusion, his unique design method has a role to logically and aesthetically spatialize all the given contextual situations into a specific architectural 'form'.

Pungsu Research of Location and Space Layout of Myeongjae Yunjung Traditional House (명재 윤증선생 고택의 입지 및 공간배치에 담긴 풍수고찰)

Myungjae Yunjung traditional house of Nonsan in the middle of korea is selected. He is one of the greatest confucian scholar in Joseon period. The study is processed as follows. Feature of mountain expressed as dragon and four important hills of the house are analyzed in chapter 2, Water environment is studied and the geomantic landscape are analyzed by shape theory called Hyung-guk-Lon in chapter 3, 4. Finally Pungsu applied in architectural space is analyzed in chapter 5.
